Every time I hear someone say something like "My Fujifilm XS 20 is my backup camera, it's only 1,200 pounds." I just can't help but smile. My main camera is a Sony a6000 and my backup is a $300 phone! 😊
Depends on the person, of course. I shoot weddings and editorial so when I'm on an assignment, I'm still using my DSLRs. I don't even consider my XS20 as a "backup camera" because I know it's not going to perform as well as I need it to on a job. It's more of a "for fun" camera for me.

I went to Asia for around half a year (3 months in the tropics of Southeast Asia). I have to confirm your doubts about overheating. It was a constant problem when I was filming in 4k 60fps or even 4k 24fps. Usually after only a few minutes, the overheating sign turned on. For me, it was not a problem because I am not a professional making money with that so I could just turn it off and wait 5 minutes.
Aside from your other reasons, it seems like a wise choice, because while the Fuji XS20 is certainly a great camera, it doesn't have a weatherseal, which could be a problem in wet or heavy rain, as you might find in Asian countries. Personally, because of the lack of weatherseal on the XS20 (and a few other reasons), I opted for the more expensive X-T5.
When the X-S20 was coming I thought it was going to be the perfect upgrade at some point for me from my X-T3. But, as an amateur, I only have one camera and I take it out hiking all the time. So, the lack of weather sealing scared me away. The other thing that wouldn't have been a deal breaker, but was a bit annoying, was the single card slot. It would be nice to save video files and raw files to separate cards. Or, to have that second card as a backup of the first. Maybe the next iteration of the -S cameras will have weather sealing. For now, the X-T3 is still fantastic!
I bought a 50$ rain cover that protects from dirt and rain and its fine. I would never trust even a weather sealed camera to bring into rain because its too expensive to risk it lol.

I looked at the firmware and the shutter actuation fields in EXIF. Firmware was original, and shutter count was under 50. A quick firmware update to present revision level and my (more or less brand new) X-T4 was an instant rockstar! Seems to me with all the killer specs and capabilities of the X-S20 that if I chill back and wait for the firmware to get on the wagon, it too will be a rockstar. I love my X-T4 because of the character. I love the tiny, easy, fun X-S20 even if it is a bit "meh" with it's juvenile firmware and character. Cheers and enjoy Asia.
Great video, but when talking about the background defocus mode, you said it can make your background blurry even if you don't have a fast lens. That's not what the feature does; it simply sets your aperture to the largest it can be, but it can't make the background blurrier than your lens allows...

I think what should be the determining factor for a buyer, when discussing the difference between flog2 on each body, is the fact that the XH2s Flog 2 is 14bit, while the XS20’s is 12bit
I am considering getting the Fujifilm X-S20, but the smaller EVF with such a minimal eyecup is giving me pause, especially since I have eyeglasses. Do you have any difficulty viewing the EVF with glasses? Does the minimal eyecup make it hard to view the EVF well in bright sunlight? Thank you and good luck on your travels!
Hi sorry for the late but yes I agree with the other here. Go to a shop and try it out. I didn’t have any issues myself. You may well be able to change the eyecup. I’ve seen people do it

Not gonna lie, I saw the title and with the recent release and hype on RUclips that’s been happening, I thought to myself “Jay must’ve bought an X100VI…” 😂 But honestly if you’re going to be traveling for as long as you are, this makes a lot of sense. I love my X-S20 and what it does in such a small package. When the day comes that I have more paid photo gigs and I’ll need a camera that has a second card slot for that assurance on pro work, I’ll probably upgrade to the XH2S, but in the meantime it fits my needs and glad it did for you while you had it.

“Sad” …. is a relative term … the country has gone to the dogs, mate … now, that is sad … but selling a very average carry around camera … doesn’t really make the cut … relatively speaking … enjoy your escape trip to Thailand!
X-S20 user, love it to death - the last niggle that I have (with all Fuji camera) will be solved in the next firmware update (touch tracking for video). But your reasons are very fair. About heat - I live in Brazil, hot as hell here, and did not have problems with overheating; the red signal appeared two times, but never had a shutdown. But in Thailand, I guess that the problem would be other - heavy bursts of rain, and the X-S20 is not weather sealed. (about the use of a fan, for the people interested in the camera - I have the Ulanzi one, just used it for torture testing, and completely solved the torture test overheating, 38 degrees celsuis temperature, camera exposed under heavy sun. Other people had similar success with generic Aliexpress fans, you don't need the Fuji one) I like to travel as light as possible too, hence I love the X-S20 size (specially with the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8). But most people also forgot that the X-H2 cameras are kinda small for what it packs.Maybe I get on in the future... Regards!
When we hv iphone or Samsung, then we dont need 2nd mirror less camera.. so there is no logic in buying 2nd camera for RUclips content. One is sufficient

You should definitely buy one and yeah watch through the video. He gave excellent reasons to buy one and I agree with everything he said. It's an excellent camera. I love how great it pairs with my X-H2s. I sold my X-S10 and my X-T4 those also were great cameras but I didn't feel the need to have 4 bodies which essentially can fill the same need.

Just get the external fan and youre set. At least its a factory option.
