UFC still building up to their 10 hour “Every rear-naked choke in UFC history” video.
hahaa beat me to it. I'd watch it though
You think there's been more rear naked chokes or more armbars?
Christian San Antonio rnc’s no question.
Ross Geller, PhD rnc’s are the highest percentage submissions by far. Here is a really cool study that broke down UFC submission statistics over the past 25 years. Rear naked chokes are the most common submission by a large margin, if you’re a ufc fan give it a read. Very cool study, link is below.

Yeah...this...this comment right here
There are three words to describe that: nightmares and suicidal ideation.

Much respect to Ryan Hall for letting go as soon as he heard the roar and felt the tap. Unlike that other juiced up psychopath
Palhares is most def a hunk of shit. Ryan Hall seems to be the opposite.
We like psychopaths
Okay so i just saw it 😅 I was jumping him next time I see him
Russell Mathura If there’s a submission you don’t wanna hold on to too long, it’s a heel hook. It could end a career
Yes, exactly.
He made many bitches cry in agony. He is a true warrior.
Rousimar Palhares holds on to heel hooks longer than this video.
Lol

He's from my area, looks relatively unassuming, has beautiful technique, and seems like a genuinely good dude so, naturally, I'm a fan.
Rousimar palhares: “haha person go ahhh”
That Hall vs Penn submission is one of the slickest things I've ever seen in MMA. I hope Hall can get a fight soon, but no one seems to want to fight that guy.

Yeah weirdly that submission which leads to severe injury all the time is not forbidden, in contrast to several much less dangerous techniques that are actually not allowed in the UFC for some reason.
If Palhares let go of the submissions on time, he would be one of the greatest submission artists of all time..sad to see unsportsmanlike behavior from such a talented guy

John Danaher approves.
Dude this is literally the scariest submission
Looks so fkin painful on the knee painful to just watch
1 second and you may never be the same
Most dangerous submission. There's a reason they're not allowed in amateurs. Heal hooks you don't feel real pain until there's already damage done.
The main way to defend a heal hook is by rolling. If you roll the wrong way and your opponent doesn't let go. You'll snap your knee and ankle just from the weight and momentum of your body.
To me, kimura is more dangerus.
@@JoneRC27 definitely not. The Kimura starts to hurt before it does any damage, while the heel hook doesn’t start to really hurt until the damage is done, and it does much more damage then the Kimura
Imagine this plot twist: Palhares doesn’t know what it means when someone taps out
And he doesn't know himself how to tap out
You could have just titled this "Rousimar Palhares highlight reel"
Or Rousimar Palhares being a POS
@S H That's why Palhares got kicked out of the UFC and makes alot less money cause hes a fucking idiot
Rousimar palhares being the anti alistair overeem
Ryan Hall is one of those guys as soon as he grabs your leg, you just tap. Masakazu Imanari, Rousimar Palhares, Ken Shamrock, Marcos Ruas, and Ryan Hall are truly leg lock legends.

The juiced up Shamrock brothers and Palhares wrecked a lot of knees .
Ryan Hall's submission was as perfect as it could get. Just so smooth.

Being put in a heel hook was one of the worst pains I have ever felt in my life. Nobody ever seems to think to guard their feet too
Agreed! U can really ruin someone's day with such a submission.
Every tall fighters nightmare
1:27 that's more an Achilles Lock than a heel hook
But because the guy that was being ankle locked turned his knee the wrong way he made it in to a heel hook pretty much
TheNRG450 The grip is more of an Achilles lock, but the way it’s angled is attacking the knee the same way a heel hook would.
mmm good point, i been there... hurts like hell
I’m just stuck on how they were wearing shoes 😐 were fighters head kicking each other with those on?
@@DJ-my2sh You will be surprised
Heel Hooks are rarely seen completed today in MMA, glad they made this video
It's a redundant technique for the most part, the game has evolved too much, people instantly know how to defend it and it leaves you in a compromised position if you dont get it.
I didn't know there have been this many heel hook finishes. Leg locks are so hard to execute so they're rarely seen.
1:13 was a straight foot lock, not a heel hook.
In some of these I found myself tapping my desk

Rousimar "better safe than sorry" Palhares
the whole time i was watching this video i was like, yeah, the only way to defend against that is to try and knock out the guy that's doing the heel hook
vicious technique, very fast and easy to get into but extremely difficult to execute. when they grab a hold of ya foot, forget about jiu jitsu, that is almost impossible to get out of. the guy at 6:15 is the one who held up the longest and he was kinda smart about it, kept rolling and hitting the dude, the thing is you cant roll forever so ultimately he ended up being destroyed!
great video and great technique! im excited to try this on local law enforcement
Not exactly, there's plenty of defensive options against leglocks, some which hold a hierarchy over each other.
For a straight ashi, there are some answer. The first thing to make sure of is to do what's called putting your "boot" on. You straighten out your leg as best as you can and keep a dorsal flexion in your foot as the severity of the heel hook is dependent on how much bend there is in the knee, how close your butt is to theirs, how wedged you have their knee, and how well you are isolating the tendons/ligaments via your toe crush when initiating the breaking mechanics of the heel hook.
One answer is to strip the heel and knee in a straight ashi garami, hide your other leg behind yourself so they cannot catch it and to simply hop over the leg that is hooking on with the heel if they have broken you down to a hip.
Another answer is standing up and pressuring into them to kill that hook on the hip with their heel; but, this opens you up to a reverse X-guard entry into cross ashi.
Another answer is to stand up and push both the heel and knee below and behind you; but, this opens up a double outside ashi entry if there is ample time.
In a cross ashi position, it's important to make sure they cannot find your toes to crush by planting them on the ground, turning out, and attempting to push their leg wedge below your kneeline. Escape finishes vary from here but generally, getting their knees below your kneeline is avoiding the heel hook.
But let's say you've done goofed and they're starting to fall back for that heel hook in straight ashi, - if they've secured an inside heel hook grip, I just say fuck it because they're finishing it, it's way tighter than an outside, - you have to prevent them from locking their grip on your heel and falling their weight down by applying a good 2on1 variation grip on the nearside arm and yanking them towards yourself to escape danger momentarily.
Punching someone who has excellent control AND breaking mechanics in these leg lock positions will most likely result in them just torquing on your knee harder.
@@KoreanRambo try that against rousimar!!! LOL
@@J.R.Swish1 watch Garry Tonon's match against him you casual.

@@KoreanRambo thanks for clarifying that I said I was an expert MMA fighter! I didn't know I did but clearly you know better. Are you a couch warrior? Do you scream at the TV and tell the pros what they should be doing? Thank you UFC elitist, very cool!
@@J.R.Swish1 You're clearly grasping at straws here. I gave you a very clear explanation as to why just punching someone who has a tight ashi on you is counter productive.
There are multiple central problems to each ashi position that experienced leg lockers prepare for and learn to counter. Shared spiral, turn out, and leg crossing.
Instead of entering into a discussion about the technicality of all of these positions and what the hierarchy is in avoiding them, you just say "lol try that on Rousimar" which is just fucking silly. I don't have to try it on Rousimar, I try it on black belts to white belts at my Jiu Jitsu gym almost daily.
No move in Jiu Jitsu is inescapable when you have that knowledge.
How much leg locking have you trained?
I wonder what Gordon Ryan will do, if he enters the UFC. Those DDS guys are phenomenal at heel hooks and Ryan Hall already proved how effective BJJ and good range management can be even if you are not the strongest wrestler.
