We hope this video helps you feel less intimidated with the deadlift!! Remember there are lots of different ways to deadlift, this style is what we have found helps for those we work with on a regular basis !!
I love your videos! Had to crack a huge smile as I heard you repeat what one of my best coaches ALWAYS says; "shoulders back and down". its the mantra in my head always. And then the obvious, shut the car door. She always used that as a clear message to demonstrate how to move correctly. Thank you again, you both ROCK!
Love it! I’d love tips on how to not fall forward in front squats, cues for snatching (it feels just so awkward when I try), and how to not be afraid to fall under the bar in cleans. I know I can do so much more weight, but I syke myself out.
Some good tips in here I can use when coaching. Thank you. Always on the look out for new cues to help others get that "ah ha" moment on a lift. Since you asked about what other lifts to break down, how about the over head squat and the back or front squat. The second two are very common lifts of course but they still have some important aspects that get over looked.
The connection between closing the car door with your butt, and the deadlift que was simply perfect! I felt that!! Hahaha... guilty as charged! Nobody wants to make an extra trip back to the car just to shut the door or grab more groceries! Hahaha.. one trip or bust! Hahaha
@@Kristi-Eramo-OConnell thank you so much for that tip, I definitely will remember that the next time I deadlift because I too have a bad habit of squatting instead of "butt bumping the door"... haha! Loving the tip videos! Thanks you two!!
Thank you - great video! Whenever time is short for training, I throw deadlifts sets in my routines as I find it one of the most complete exercises out there. Keep on rocking, guys!
A unique and excellent explanation. I love performing the dead lift and feel that I do this pretty well. This video provides great clues in maintaining good form and will be tips that I will keep as I progress. Very much appreciated!!
Thanks for the tips. When I see you execute this it looks so super simpel. I noticed in the beginning I had to much pressure on my lower back and sometime it even hurt. Seeing that I need to keep the bar constantly against my chins to keep the weight in the right position. I will try to execute this coming Monday.and see how it feels. Also the tip to film myself is interesting to see if it fits my thoughts.
I am so glad I found your channel. I really like your teaching, tips, and gear videos . I work out daily but I am thinking about dipping my toes into crossfit. Seems intimidating. Also, I am curious what fitness watch are you wearing? Thanks and keep up the great work!
Thank you for the detailed information. I am trying to eliminate my habit of squatting at the beginning of my deadlift and shift to the hinge. The vertical shin position has been very helpful. I will watch this video over again as a reminder.
I'm 66 and 140lbs at 6' tall, long and lanky. Always manage to strain my lower back when dead lifting, my current max weight of 130 lbs. Keeping shoulders back and down has not been apart of my form. Perhaps this form improvement will keep me out of trouble. Thanks for your leadership. Jack in Lakeland Tennessee.
Probably one of the best tutorials on a deadlift I’ve ever seen!! I’ve been deadlifting for years but even some little tips I’ve seen will make a big diff for me 🙌🏻🔥
Thanks for this video! I have found for myself that using hook grip is more beneficial for me than mixed grip. I’m able to squeeze my shoulder blades better and just maintain a better upper body position in general. I think a lot of people see deadlifting as a lower body exercise but I think it’s most definitely a full body exercise.
AMAZING review & tips. I am really trying to get out of my habits by not rounding my back @ all. I am noticing that I have a hard time keeping the shoulders back all the time especially when I do touch & go. I am DEFINITELY going to watch this video again before my next DL day.
Great content as usual! can we get some tips on how to catch the bar in a squat position while doing the clean instead of power cleaning all the bars unless it's an empty one =D
After 3 years of crossfit and getting injured on my first year cause of DF i finally get someone to explain different to me. Bar over shoe laces 😁 now i can keep working on my PR
Great video and helpful tips! Im struggeling with deadlift because I often hear that I must sit back like a squat before pulling the bar, but I cant do that cause I feel like Im out of balance! But its actually a hinge movement like u and Patrick explained and not a squat movement! So thanks again and keep it up ❤️ u are amazing 😍
If you're just starting out with the 45lb bar alone , would u recommend elevating the bar to the height as if a plate was loaded on it? I think most back rounding occurs as ur getting lower.
its not a bad thing to switch, though it seems to be like being right or left handed in general and for most people it feels very un natural to change the hand direction!
not at all, we encourage that. it can be a good thing to pull modestly heavy weight occasionally to keep weight on the bar, but we very rarely have people go over 85%.

Happy to help!
"3 point contact on the feet".....I love the attention to explanation that's why I look forward to watching your vlogs.

🔥 🔥 you guys are on fire, such good content! Love it. These types of video are so good for the Crossfit community …. You guys rock!

Loving this tips videos ❤️. Also, it would be great a video of squat snatch 🥺🙏🏻.
we can do that! next tips video coming will be overhead squats!

sure is! and we like the hook grip as well especially at the lighter weights!
Thank you so much guys ❤ best video ever
Could you do a video on squat snatches please?! That is something I struggle with but I’m trying to work on. I would really appreciate it!
we can def do that, the next teaching video coming will be overhead squats. there may be some things in there that could help!
Thanks for the tips, it helped a lot. :)

I love deadlifts!
who doesn't like a good deadlift day!! 😎✌️
Deadlifts saved my back! How ironic right. I absolutely love how you DON'T overextend your lower back at the top of the lift. Good job 👍
Great review! I’m saving this, so I can come back to it. Definitely going to watch it before my next DL day! So many good reminders.
awesome!!
Very cool video. Would be fun to have one video for the various CrossFit movements. Because there is a lot of value in this content.
Thank you ! :)
we are going to keep them coming, thanks!!
Excellent Content Again!!

Great tutorial on the deadlift, aka health lift :)
Think i will make vidéo of myself doing this movement, good idea. Good tips on this vidéo. Good job :)
You should! and thank you!
Thanks guys👍
You bet!!! ✌️
Great video. I'd love you to break down good form squat snatch please
That was great and I wish I lived near Columbus so I could go to your box.
drop in if you are ever in town!

How to oly lifts would be great!! I definitely need it! 😅
Thank you
I'd Love to see breakdowns of olympic lifts.
we can def do that!!
Thank you for this. I always wonder if I'm doing it right in terms of my lower back.
You're so welcome! a good sign you are doing them right is that you butt gets sore!!
Could you break down a snatch? I am a CF L1 and I have trouble cuing people to do it correctly!
Awesome video thank you :)
Awesome video. I’ve been doing it wrong.
thanks! and glad there was something that clicked!
Im always hurting my back deadlifting cause I get lazy. Especially trying to do touch n go with 225+. Needed this.
Hang power clean please. This video was is really helpful!
If you're just starting out with the 45lb bar alone , would u recommend elevating the bar to the height as if a plate was loaded on it? I think most back rounding occurs as ur getting lower.
yes! think of your mid shin as the lowest that you will go!
I really struggle with the front rack hand position. I can front squat but have t hold the bar with crossed arms if that makes sense.
Does using a hex bar to do deadlifts help or hurt form? Is it any different?
its just different, but for most people makes it easier to stay in good positions!
learn to OVERHEAD SQUAT, would be awesome video. It's also a very intimidating movement for beginners.
thanks! we can def do that!
Is it better to always have the same hand facing towards you when using a mixed grip, or should you alternate over time?
its not a bad thing to switch, though it seems to be like being right or left handed in general and for most people it feels very un natural to change the hand direction!
Why do my bicep hurt when I go up in weight
why one palm forward and one palm backwords ?
because the bar spins, it keeps it from wanting to roll out of your hands!
The clean
Let’s just say I’m feeling more mature these days lol. I don’t go real heavy anymore but I use light dead lift for cardio. Is that a waste of time ?
not at all, we encourage that. it can be a good thing to pull modestly heavy weight occasionally to keep weight on the bar, but we very rarely have people go over 85%.
@@Kristi-Eramo-OConnell Thanks
Please do snatch
Hi 👋 question for DL are flat shoes required? My current shoes are running shoes and when I DL my body weight naturally wants to move forward. I appreciate you both.
they are def recommend, and if you are going heavy you would be better off taking running shoes off!
I had a trainer tell me to pretend you are breaking the bar.
