    Susan Rogers is an Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music, and the director of the Berklee Music Perception and Cognition Laboratory. Susan is the author and instructor of Music Cognition for Berklee Online.
    Music cognition explores the mental processes underlying musical behaviors and how emotion, environment, cognitive capacity, personality, individual differences, and other factors influence how we perceive music.

    I'm taking this course online and I'm learning a lot of really important concepts. I find it amazing that we can process all the auditory stimuli, perceive pitch, timbre, loudness, duration and converge all of that into music; but more importantly, what happens next...

    Would music cognition include rehabilitation? I'm interested in studying the ways in which music helps victims of neurologic disease. Would this work fall under music therapy instead? Maybe there is an umbrella term that captures both the cognitive and therapeutic applications of music?
