    On a recent return from Germany I was coming through with only a carry on and my 33c and R41 I bought there as a souvenir and I’m convinced that the only reason they weren’t both confiscated there was because the TSA guy was a DE shaver himself and knew what it was. Even congratulating me on my nice razors! But since then I’ve decided to take only cartridge razors if I’m not checking a bag. Side note, the Mühle store in Berlin is a wet shavers paradise.

      You're fortunate that you caught a good agent! I've heard stories of them confiscation safety razors even without blades in them, which makes no sense at all. I guess it all depends on who you come up against,...

    Good and timely video. I recently traveled and I have been checking my bag with my Dopp kit. I did see the man ahead of me get a thorough check because he had a leatherman small skeletool with scissors and a very small blade. TSA guy took it and helped him mail it back to himself. I was impressed.

    When I flew last year, I threw a 5 pack of razor blades into my zip lock bag. The TSA looked thoroughly at my safety razor to make sure it didn’t have a blade. But completely ignored the 5 razor blades right next to it. The TSA is an incompetent joke.

      It’s a joke but it’s partially because TSA isn’t paid all that much above minimum wage, maybe a few dollars more, which is a lot for many but that line of work should be paid more and trained more

    I fly way more than I like, and I have found that the rules change to fit the mood of the person doing the search. I have flown with zippos, only to have them confiscated at the connecting flight. I have learned to just ship everything to my address and not carry anything but clothing.

    Geo, Have you ever looked at sourcing out a supplier for a disposable safety razor for those of us that fly weekly for work? It is such a pain using the garbage disposables currently on the market!! A throw-away model with a Astra or Gillette SB that we could carry through TSA would be a hit with wet shavers I would think.

    I have a plastic razor box that I ended up with from one of the Chinese TTO razors (the razor was horribly aligned and tossed). It has a spot under the razor handle for a 5 pack of blades. I had forgotten the blades were there and packed the box in my Dopp. Got to the hotel in NYC knowing where to pick up good blades (Pasteurs). I opened the box and had a "merde" moment. Luckily, I only had a few blades to toss since I wasn't going to push my luck on the return trip. Since then, I use 1 or 2 blade disposables I call my TSA razors for carry-on and I only bring my DE when I check bags.

    I travel a crazy amount. Water quality and hardness can sometimes come in to play. I prefer a good lather so I bring what I want to use and also throw a stick of Arko in my bag. It lathers every time I tell ya! Ps- I love my Simpson’s major. 😀

    There are disposable razors that are good to use as a safety razor replacement, at least for a short trip, and those are BIC One Blade or BIC Metal. There might be others, but I've heard of those, and actually used the One Blade twice, and it does provide a good enough shave. Another thing that freaks me out is having an expensive razor, and simply because the TSA agent is not in a very good mood, decides to confiscate it even if you are not carrying a blade. It might happen since as you say, the last decision is on the hand of the officer. So, to avoid that unpleasantness, I purchased a Merkur Bakelite safety razor. It won't tag it as a metal object on the X-ray machine, reducing the chances of the TSA officers doing extra screening on your stuff. And if you happen to find blades at your destination, you can still shave the right way. I'll also carry a couple disposable One blades, just in case.

    • @dan_mer
      @dan_mer 2 года назад

      But why? No one will give you an issue if you put your stuff in the checked bag or disassemble it.

    • @MartinOcando
      @MartinOcando 2 года назад

      @@dan_mer I can put a straight razor in a checked bag, but when I'm traveling light and I don't want to check a bag, this solution is the best for me. If you put a disassembled razor in your hand bag or personal object, even without a blade, there is a possibility that the officer confiscates it. I've seen it happen.

    I went through TSA with a carry on that had my Parker A1R travel razor, they never took it out of its case to even look at it, I did mail a blade at my hotel which arrived a few days after I got there. I think he could’ve confiscated it if he wanted to, another comment below stated that he almost had his taken away, like Geo said it depends on the TSA agent.

    $4 to mail two blades to Texas where I stayed last week... Kinda nuts for $.30 of steel...better than a $30 fee to check baggage I suppose😓

    I made the mistake of going through Las Vegas airport/ TSA with my 1958 Gillette Fat boy today. No blades, of course. But the young girl going through my bag held it up and looked at it like she was a cave woman discovering fire for the first time and wanted to confiscate it.
    She started to say, “I’m sorry but…” and I stopped her mid sentence to explain that it was a vintage Gillette razor from 1958 and that there are no blades in it. (I forgot to tell her Geofatboy said it was OK) 😂
    After a little back and forth she finally gave it back to me. But never again! I’ll ship it back home. (I trust UPS or FedEx more than the airline’s checked baggage system) So yup- just because it is allowed per TSA guidelines doesn’t mean you won’t run into somebody clueless that will take it with with zero repercussions.
    If anything, next time I’ll bring something I don’t mind being confiscated by a poorly trained Tub Stacker.

    I disassembled my DE razor and had it in my carry on (no blades). The automatic (unmanned) x-ray scanner at IAH picked it up anyway, set off a loud alarm, and they TSA guy started shouting "WHOSE BAG IS THIS??". Man, was the TSA guy PISSED.
