      What do you mean “I shouldn’t have made this lol”, it’s like you still think there are no issues with the video at all. People are angry because your counters are weak, you didn’t address certain points Linus made, while twisting other point he made, yet you presented it in such a condescending manner. People aren’t like you where they blindly support brand/creators, they are mad for a reason. This video is when you lost a subscriber 2 years ago, it’s sad to see you haven’t changed.

    • @liquidmark5081

      EthanBB Apple never sells replacement parts to people that aren’t certified. Selling the parts to the jackass that broke it to begin with isn’t a very good idea at all. Everybody’s acting like it should be no big deal to give him the screen but he doesn’t have a certification t0 service the thing and he fucking doesn’t know how to fix or service it. Next time he could kill himself.

      Flame Pieman they sell to service providers that are certified. Where do you think their Apple certified repair shops get their parts? Magic?

    • @brycejprince
      @brycejprince 6 лет назад +1

      He's referring to LTT's video. The Apple Certified repair shops couldn't even get the part, and it's not because it costs more than the rest of the computer.

    • @liquidmark5081
      @liquidmark5081 6 лет назад

      Bryce Prince they couldn’t get the part because they didn’t have anyone with the certification (they said in the video). However, the cert course to work on the iMac Pro has been available since December. So maybe the technician didn’t want to waste his time telling LTT that it’ll cost way more to repair (replace the monitor, logicboard AND PSU... essentially the whole computer) than simply buying a new one.
      I mean, do you want to pay $7000 to repair a $5000 computer? Is telling you that it’ll cost that much even an option at all?

  • @brianpaulmartin
    @brianpaulmartin 6 лет назад +62

    Sorry T your wrong. Apple should be able to service a simple screen replacement regardless of the inners. I understand charging versus covering under warranty, but I’m shocked Apple can’t handle their own product line. As an insurance arbitrator the car analogy is 100% true. It’s not like he was asking Apple to fix the modification he added as you insinuated just the screen. I’m sure Apple would have a different answer to the inquiry next year as support is added for the pro.

    • @liquidmark5081
      @liquidmark5081 6 лет назад

      Brian Martin it’s not a simple replacement when they can’t sign off on a repair because they don’t know what you did when you modified the machine. Besides, when the iPad Pro came out, repairing the display cost more than simply buying a new iPad Pro. So, this should be a case of “buy another iMac Pro”.
      If Linus took his iMac Pro to an Apple certified service shop to upgrade the ram and the display were broken due to fault of the repair shop, then that would be a different matter. But that’s not what happened here at all.

    • @Finnspin_unicycles
      @Finnspin_unicycles 6 лет назад +9

      So you are saying it is perfectly fine that a 4000$ machine has to be thrown in the bin because of a easy to fix 700$ part?

    • @liquidmark5081
      @liquidmark5081 6 лет назад

      F1NNSP1N the following parts broken by Linus
      1) the monitor
      2) the logic board
      3) the PSU
      So, with the exclusion of the SSD’s, the CPU and the case, Linus trashed the whole computer. It would cost *more* in parts alone to fix the damn thing than it would cost to GO BUY ANOTHER iMAC PRO!

    Sorry Tailosive, but I have issues with your video.
    First off, you spend about 5 minutes criticizing a reenactment that isn't pretending to be anything other than that. If you watch his channel, you know they do obvious edits for comedic effect - not to trick the viewer. Second, your analogy doesn't work because if they chose to just sell the part to an Apple Certified repair shop, then it would come at no extra cost to their bottom line. Third, your criticism of his ads are unnecessary. He does that to bring good content to his viewers, which doesn't come cheap (he uses decent amounts of money to buy products he wants to look at and show viewers). The reason he is so well-liked is because he isn't a shill for any specific companies, and gives credit/criticizes them all pretty evenly. He doesn't rush to anyone's defense like you do whenever Apple gets criticism (I've watched old videos, such as your S8 review, in which you make a criticism of a group, but applaud it when it makes its way over to Apple). I watch your videos to get a little extra pro-Apple views, but it's pretty dumb when you won't criticize ANY of Apple's products, but will criticize everyone else. I know you're the Apple Sheep, but even EverythingApplePro isn't so unrealistic.

    Buddy, they weren't trying to abuse the warranty system. They weren't even trying to get Apple to repair the product for them. They weren't trying to replace the parts they "modified", they were trying to replace some the most basic of components of ANY computer: the screen, power supply and motherboard. The point of the video isn't that they should have gotten a free repair, the point is that Apple doesn't have the support infrastructure in place for one of their flagship products. They don't care if Apple will repair it for them or not, they just want the parts. Apple doesen't have the system in place to send replacement parts to their own retail stores and authorized technicians. Apple shouldn't release a product that doesen't have support infrastructure if one of their main claims to fame is their product support. The iMac Pro was a rushed release, they shouldn't have rushed production of it even if it was to meet the demands of pro users who were abandoned by the fuck-up of the Mac Pro.
    also if you think that's too many ads you would have a heart attack if you watched a few minutes of television.

    Dear Tailosive Tech
    Let me simplify the problem for you. Consider, I buy a brand new Samsung Galaxy S9. Now, I do not like the custom skin that Samsung put over it. Therefore I unlock my bootloader, root my device and flash a custom rom on it (being fully aware that this voids my warranty). I use my phone for a view days until one day I accidentally drop it, the screen shatters and so I need to replace it. To fix the screen, I visit a Samsung centre (naturally). Now listen very carefully. There are two cases-
    Number 1. The point Linus' video makes: The Samsung representative tells me that they don't have a replacement screen and hence they can't fix my product. Which is stupid and insane.
    Number 2. What you misunderstood or you are just delusional. Samsung refuses to repair the screen because I have rooted the phone and installed a custom rom on it. I have agreed to pay the price but still they are refusing to do it. Which is far more stupid.
    Tailosive, I happened to come across your content a few days ago. I watched a couple of your videos and noted that there was slight bias in them. You were clearly an apple fan but your arguments made sense so that didn't bug me much.
    But today, you have proved that you are an isheep, you are following Apple like it's your religion. I am astounded at your idiosyncrasies in the video.
    Yours sincerely
    A not so techy but logical viewer

    I think the issue was that Apple didn’t have the parts nor the trained staff to repair it. • @sliphere011

    My feeling is if you are willing to pay for it they should fix it. And they were just disassembling it, not modifying it. So it should be easy enough for them to just replace the screen. Also if you watch his videos, they do a lot of post issue stage shots. People that watch him on a regular basis knew that the spark was a joke. Yes I agree if something is "totaled", the company should just say this will cost more to fix and that should be the end of it but in this case it is cheaper for them to get a display assembly and put it on. Also, to say companies will not do PCB repairs is also incorrect, for corporate customers, Dell does motherboard repairs on their business lineup and sends them back. I know this cause they do it for my company. All this being said, the company does have the right to deny service, but the customer also has the right to complain about it if the company does not offer a level of service as another company does. You also have the right to complain about someone else complaining. But you asked for comments so here is mine :)

I'm surprised he can't fix it considering his prowess and the fact that its using a 5k display also used in the 27inch regular iMac which he can purchase at any time.

It shows that he really thinks that a car company would just say "no you're dumb, we're not going to fix your car for any amount of money" if you broke it and it was entirely your fault. No, most companies will GLADLY take your money to repair something, especially since Linus never had any issue with paying whatever it may cost to fix it. Crash a brand new car and any dealer/shop would LOVE to take more of your money.

  • @x_rod
    @x_rod 6 лет назад +49

    Apple should absolutely be able to supply the parts for a new screen. Because this isn’t something that you have to get inside the computer to break. If a normal consumer buys an iMac, and it falls off the desk let’s say, and the screen cracks, Apple should be prepared to supply a replacement screen. Same with a cracked iPhone screen. You can get a replacement iPhone display without warranty (although you have to pay for it) from Apple, so you should theoretically be able to do a similar thing with an iMac.
    I will be willing to bet you only watched the first minute or so of the video before jumping to conclusions. Ridiculous video, very little actual information, and purely for clicks, views and revenue. So glad Adblock is a thing. You don't address the problem of Apple not willing to sell the parts. He clearly explains they went to third party repair shops who also can't get the parts. I agree the part would likely cost more than the computer itself. But for someone who wants to pay, not sure what Apple gains from finding excuses to not provide the parts. Falling monitors from people tripping on wires or other is not unusual. Does this mean an Apple computer and it's content are totaled if knocked over? If that's the case, it makes a great argument to stick with a PC.

      Fun fact, the replacement screen for his particular model of iMac Pro was $1300. Factor in labor and taxes and it'd probably cost a little over $2000 to repair it. Linus specifically needed a new screen, power supply unit, and motherboard. This is basically the entire computer. But still, it's going to be slightly less money than outright buying a new unit. The things he needed in question are all separate components that can very easily be removed and replaced.

      Yeah he dragged on the part about the clear skit they did at the start of the video for quite a while but he makes some very fair and good points with the car analogy part where he says how he essentially totalled the iMac and it would have cost Apple more to get and supply the part then fix his iMac than it would had to have just got a new one

    • @casualt2212
      @casualt2212 6 лет назад +1

      Except he didn't total the iMac as computers have many independent parts which all come together for the end product. The screen is costly at about $1,300-$1,400, the 750W PSU is $170 and the motherboard is estimated at $600 (I presume based on it being the closest performing counterpart. What you see here is about $2,000 worth of damaged parts that if fully replaced should fix the imac into a good as new state. Even if apple charged a $1,000 fee for supplying it Linus probably would prefer to go ahead with it as he would still save about $2,000.

      You missed the point. After opening a product that a company specifically asks you not to, you void warranty AND lose RIGHT TO SERVICE (that’s very important), no matter how much you are willing to pay. That’s why they recommended going to a Third party repair shop. It’s a legal thing. If it was simply the display, sure. But it was the circuit board, power supply and display. Apple does not have to service it and they can’t after it’s been messed with internally, what if it was rigged, what if it they left a hot wire loose and an employee touched it. Finally, their breaking it wasn’t an accident, they messed with it’s insides. Dropping it by accident would not have caused that much damage.

    • @deezelfairy
      @deezelfairy 6 лет назад +4

      KJohn060 So you think it's OK that a company can say that the product you purchased can only be touched by them, ever, and if anyone else does your on your own? That's bullshit.
      It's like a car manufacturer saying 4 years down the road 'you got mom and pop garage to change your brake pads? Bring it to us EVERYTIME or we will never give you technical support again' or 'you better not have opened that hood or your on your own buddy' - it's ridiculous!
      Look, if you open the thing up under warranty than expect to loose your warranty, I don't think anyone with half a brain would argue that - but if your paying? Yeah Linus broke the TOS, that doesn't make apples TOS right or fair.
      Its a legal thing incase an employee gets a shock from a hot wire put in the wrong place? I presume you mean an apple tech. Will as a technician in any industry that's your job - to diagnose and repair faults, wires in the wrong place included, that's why your a competent technician you know how to look for and mitigate risk. That policy just says to me apple geniuses are just part swapping monkeys and not techs at all - That's why they won't touch it, their techs are not competent to spot and correct mistakes.

      Steve Poirier you can legally "hack" the machine, at least in the US. I'm pretty sure that US laws would apply all across Apple's shops, even internationally, as they are based in California. It's illegal for company's to void the warranty, unless they can prove that the modding was what caused the part to malfunction, which clearly, it wasn't the case, as he just dropped the damn thing on accident. Plus, even if there were no warranty, what kind of company wouldn't allow anyone, even licensed repair shops, to order a replacement screen? Normally, I don't mind fanboys and Apple sheep, but when they openly support an anti-consumer practice and then go and blame the consumer, that's where I draw the line. What do you do with every other device when it breaks and it's no longer under warranty? You go to a repair shop, they order the part/s, and fix it. It is completely illogical to say that just because it is an all in one, they wouldn't be able to order replacement parts, because things can break, even if they don't modify it. Complete bs on Apple's part.

I can personally say I would NEVER hire someone like you.
      I know over a dozen different programming platforms, and I've been to maybe 5 training courses over the breadth of them. The only reason I went to those training courses was because they were required by our customer due to industrial safety standards that the customer required.
      Certifications more often than not are handed out to stupid people who use them as a crutch to get a job. It's a computer... +Sama well I got my iPad mini Repaired at a third party repair place cause apple was too Expensive, they claimed that they knew what they were doing and totally fucked up my iPad. So what happened was I dropped my iPad and the screen smashed. I brought to a well known repair place here in Ireland (iFixit I believe). They rang us back 2 days later and said that they ordered a new screen . 3 days after the initial visit we came back in and discussed the issue with another employee and he said that the screen was faulty and that they had ordered a new one. So we went back 2 days later and they told us that this screen when fitted, would turn off when you press the home button. We were told it was an issue with the LCD and that they had to get another screen from another store. We came back again 2 days later and he said that the issue was not the LCD, because they had the same problem with even a new LCD.
      They said something about a "coil" being gone. He said he could by pass it. We waited for a call and didn't get one, so we went back ( this was a few days later again)and they then said it wasn't the coil, that it was, that the motherboard was gone and that they couldn't do anything about it and couldn't figure out the problem. That was about 2-3 weeks of going back and forth. So we sent it too apple to have a look and they sent back pictures saying that the Internal protective covers had been removed when they should not have been touched, a part that should have been screwed off was pulled off and the threads were damaged, the LCD was scratched internally, other panels had been damaged (HUGE scratches all over them) and the Battery was damaged (there were dents in the battery).
      Apple said that it would cost too much to repair and you would be better off buying a new one. So we wrote a complaint letter to the ifixit repair shop and they got us a replacement iPad. BUT IT WAS THE WRONG SPEC. I had a 64GB wifi only iPad min and they gave us a 16GB wifi only iPad mini. It took them a month to get that replacement iPad and we had to wait ANOTHER month again to get the right one, they sent us the wrong one again, 64gb wifi and cellular instead of the wifi only so I got a slight upgrade in the end. Also I think they never gave back my smart cover I had on the iPad. They gave back the 16GB one with the cover on it but after we got back the right one I could never find it again. So these guys claimed to be professional technicians and they were not ! That certified technician does mean something. The technician that worked on my iPad was gone so I presumed he was fired and the iFixit place closed down and left. Another repair shop called Pair now sits in its place.

      Not really, taking apart an iMac isn’t exactly something a non certified technician should be doing. That display is precisely calibrated, and when the one comes in it must be replaced in a specific way to allé sure the adhesive seals the system properly. Secondly, they did modify the machine by adding non certified ddr4 ram, and incorrectly removing the fan assembly along with what looked like the WiFi ribbon cable & display power cable. When reassembling the machine, they did not put the parts back in the correct order causing display stress and weakening the seal. The seal wasn’t proper because they didn’t have the correct adhesive (which is $19 from OWC, this wouldn’t have been difficult to come by), and by the time the system was back together it didn’t work properly because it failed boot validation. Why did it fail? Because they screwed with parts that they didn’t know how to work on, and used non certified ram... that’s why Apple wouldn’t touch it with a ten foot pole, Linus stated “three parts”, memory controller/assembly, fan assembly, ribbon cables+display.

  • @i_am_acai
    @i_am_acai 6 лет назад +6

    "Umm, if you drove your car into a pole right after buying it... that's not the dealers fault. That just means you're dumb." The more important thing is if the car was damaged even by accident, the consumer would be screwed. It doesn't make sense for companies, especially Apple, to still not have support for Pro products 3 months after release. Another thing is Apple's hostility to third party repair but that is to be expected.

    I disagree with you completely. One I could be wrong but they didn't modify the iMac. They dropped the screen. What if the screen was broken and needed to be replaced? Is Apple going to just say "Sorry Customer, we know the screen needs to be replaced and this is a defect but we can't get the parts." The only other choice is for Apple to replace the entire iMac Pro? And remember - THEY can't get the parts. It's not like they shot the motherboard. They broke the screen. I can easily see that happening. Ever had kids? Heard of them, maybe? The iMac Pro is the perfect at home work station. But because it's at home it's entirely possible a kid might break a screen. Then that parent would be very upset because instead of paying someone $1000 or so to fix a screen they have go spend 5K+ to fix a screen. That's just stupid. It be one thing of they said, "Parts are on back order but we will get it eventually." No, the response was "We can't get the parts because HQ won't ever send them to us." That's just dumb. What if they want send iPhone screens one day?
    Apple needs to fix this problem because I won't be buying a machine that can't be fixed. I do have kids and all the work I do I do at home now.

    it doesn't matter if it was modified. he wasn't trying to abuse the warranty system. he just wanted a simple screen replacement that he was very willing to pay for. if apple were so fucking picky about people changing the ram, it would have been soldered onto the motherboard. that would've even saved space. they wouldn't have used full size ram sticks if you weren't allowed to replace them period. He just wanted a new screen for his very expensive imac that has some very valuable video footage that could cost him a lot of money if that mac were to be gone forever. i think apple should respect that. I don't even know why apple were so fussy about it either like they'd be getting paid money and they wouldn't even need to fix it, they just wanted the part. I love apple but this was unacceptable.

    1. The shock was a joke. That was pretty obvious
    2. The adds keeps his team paid, his videos top quality and exposure to brands that very few youtubers have
    3. He did not MODIFY anything, he disassembled it. 2 extremely different terms.
    4. LTT specifically need the display module of a brand new product, whose parts need to be fully supported and available to all service providers. He never mentioned anything about older modules of older units (such as the one at the intro of your video, although the squarespace joke was really funny I must admit).
    5. You stopped your factual commentary at about the 6th minute and then you started mocking and bringing as an example irrelevant situations (such as modifying a GPU) for the rest of your video
    6. A customer with product A is not more important than a customer with product B. I'm sure this is not something that huge companies live by so do not assume that (battery, watches replacements vs screen replacement)
    7. AppleCare extends the warranty. Buying something months ago, still keeps it within its warranty period.
    8. I completely agree with your point of the purpose of the Mac Pro vs iMac pro (minute 8).

      Tailosive Tech they weren't getting it fixed anyway at this point. I don't see how possible breaking an already broken part more is either smart or dumb, it's broken you might as well melt it. It's not like Apple or anyone can make the glass whole again.
      And your argument about getting apple care, they mentioned that they should have gotten it in the video, as an offhand joke.
      And Apple didn't say that it was totalled all they said was that they weren't able to get the parts ordered. And how the hell do you total a conputer, unless literally all of the parts are broken you can always replace them if you can obtain a working one.
      And that's the entire problem that they're facing. They just want replacement parts but the way Apple has it set up at the moment they can't even get them from a third party, which is what Apple told them to do at the end.
      P. S. Nvidia doesn't even sell the vast majority of their gpu-s, it's done by other companies like asus msi evga and etc.

    You did not get the point of Linus's video. I am also an apple sheep and love almost everything they do, but I think Linus has a strong point that. The problem is that Apple does not have replacement parts available to Apple stores. Even if they did not mess around with the iMac pro, Apple store still does not have the parts for it. In that case, the third party apple pro certified technician mentioned in the video would be able to repair the iMac pro, but it would not be a great experience.

    "Umm, if you drove your car into a pole right after buying it... that's not the dealers fault. That just means you're dumb."
    Correct. But the dealer will still fix it for you *since you want to pay them*.
    It's not Apple's fault that Linus broke his iMac. But that's really not the point of his video. The point is that no matter how much money Linus offers anyone, he can't get the iMac repaired. He literally has to toss away an otherwise fully working computer, just because of a broken display.
    Now, some third party repair shops might be able to get their hands on a replacement screen, but that's *despite* Apple trying to stop repair shops from getting replacement parts.
    Hell, the new iMac is so new that I would be surprised if there *were* any replacement screens yet.

Same thing goes with Apple. But I can take it to a third party in order to get them repaired at the very least. They should let third parties to be able to buy or produce spare parts in order to fix my car or in this case my computer.

      @liquidmark5081 6 лет назад

      Gabriel Coutinho Brêtas Netto yeah, the *repair shop* will fix it with the parts because the *repair shop* would have the necessary certs to get the parts if certs are needed. If you go out and buy a mclaren or a Bentley and you blow the engine, you’re not going to just go down to your local pep boys and buy the parts to fix either vehicle and your local mechanic can’t do shit for you because he needs special training and certification to repair either car. It doesn’t matter how much money you have.
      If you modified your mclaren or Bently by, say, adding nitro then you’re shit out of luck and nobody will give you parts (because you’re NOT certified) nor will anyone work on it (because they can’t sign off on the proper working condition of your car). You basically destroyed your expensive car because you had to be cute.

    • @liquidmark5081
      @liquidmark5081 6 лет назад

      Matías Odriozola nobody’s stopping Linus from buying another iMac Pro. He modified that one and had no certification to go fucking around inside the machine. Apple is not going to touch it after that point. They really don’t know what your non-certified ass did to the machine. It could be a health hazard and a lawsuit waiting to happen if they sign off on it. They’re not going to do a repair that they can’t sign off on.

  • @johns9248
    @johns9248 6 лет назад +3

    I really don't think you could be any more arrogant. Linus is NOT asking for a warranty repair, he fully expected to pay for it. What he IS hoping is for a repair, or at least for them to sell him the parts he needs to repair it. It is not a difficult or weird concept.
    To go back to the car analogy. Let's even say this is a case where the car\Mac is totalled. You have the option to keep the car and attempt to fix it yourself. You can buy parts from the dealer and\or 3rd party providers to attempt to repair the car yourself. If you are successful in your repairs you can re-title it as a salvage car. In this case, Linus is willing to spend the money to fix this Mac (whether you think it's a waste of money or not is irrelevant) and attempt the repairs himself. Right now Apple makes it very difficult for people to obtain parts because they don't want people working on stuff themselves. THAT is where it's different. If I want to go into apple and pay $500 for a iMac pro screen to try and fix my iMac myself, why can't I do that?
    At least I got a giggle out of your intro.

  • @mrmimeisfunny
    @mrmimeisfunny 6 лет назад

    Yeah you have a point. but there is also a big difference between "I have soldiered a 6510 to my motherboard, and it stopped working, please fix it" to "We have added some ram and added a card, dropped the screen we didn't modify in the slightest. Can we please buy a replacement screen". If it was a problem with "We don't accept it because you modified it" They should've mentioned it, but they clearly said "We don't allow anyone to replace the screen" (at least according to the video).
    They could charge 2000$ and it would be "worth their time" to ship a screen that they make.

    Bruh. If apple dont have spare parts to fix their own product then fuck me they really do want you to buy a new one. $$$.
    I think he was more pissed off that they said that it would be no problem to fix after he exsplained to them what the problem was. And then they suddenly said O we cant get the part half way through the process. You would think as a company they would see if they could order the part before making assumptions of what they can fix. Therfore the person he emailed at apple was misleading with what they said they could do. But then again I'm not suprised as apple as a company is misleading.

    I know it’s a year. But I always get really frustrated when I think about how most people reacted to that.
    1. Tailosive and Rene Ritchie are absolutely right about the fact the Linus had absolutely no right to ask for any service (either under warranty or at his expense), if anybody provided it to him that would have been great but he was certainly not entitled to it. Apple is quite literally an „Apple authorized service provider“ and no: these kind of providers don’t give you individual parts because there is no business in that. They provide you with the service of „repairing“ your device.
    2 If this would have been an accident Apple would just have send him a new one, kept the old one and in time (if possible) repaired it and sold it as an refurbished device with warranty
    2.1 this was necessary because at that time Apple had no spare parts and put all its energy into making new Mac Pros
    2.2 In this scenario Linus would have gotten a new one quicker and at no risk of it failing because Apple might have failed at identifying all things broken
    3 The right to repair was of no role or consequence in this case since this device was so new, that there is no chance of Apple denying anyone warranty service and when the first iMac Pros turned 1 year old or two depending on your Region Apple would have an established supply chain for repairs
    4 The environment would be well off just as well since the original iMac (as mentioned above) would be sold later
    5 Apple would not have made any money from that, which they could have done by offering Linus 2 or three components and repairs for basically 60-70 percent of the iMac price (a deal essentially equivalent to Linus flipping his broken iMac Pro online and buying a new one)
    5.1 The High prices would even be warranted since any parts at that time that Apple didn’t put into its new iMacs would be equivalent to a lost iMac sale
    6. the third Party Situation was really sad and stupid and it sucks for anyone who didn’t have the money to replace their iMac and did something stupid because the weren’t informed about what was in Apples Terms and conditions.
    6.1 None of this is true for Linus so don’t loose any sleep about a DIY company loosing a product with witch they played around and basically made their money back on the videos they have made about the iMac itself and the repair situation
    7. I usually love LTT and it remains my highest watched Tech Channel but here they were clearly in the wrong and everybody who can’t accept that is as much LTT sheep or AntiAppleSheep as Tailosive is an AppleSheep

    I get why you want to protect Apple and even tho I really like your opinion most of the times this is completely stupid. The points you bring up have nothing to do with the video from Linus. • @TesserLink

    The beginning video was to be a funny way to show...hey we broke it. Im pretty sure they didn't expect anyone to take it serious. The problem i see is they are willing to pay for replacement parts to fix it themselves, regardless of price. I don't care how its assembled, if someone is willing to pay for a part to fix their computer and are denied to get said part that's unacceptable. The only reason they are getting upset is because they couldn't buy the part on their own, so they went to other means like asking Apple, and other certified Apple shops to fix it and were denied on that as well. Another issue that they were stating was is if someone with a genuine issue went to a certified apple repair shop they couldn't even repair it, because the repair shops don't have the parts or certifications. This is mainly due to apple not properly setting up and getting their support for their newer devices set up incase people have any hardware issues.

    • @liquidmark5081
      @liquidmark5081 6 лет назад

      SHADOWxWOLF they don’t have the certification or frankly the know-how to fix it themselves. Apple won’t sell parts to people that aren’t certified. I know it seems like a simple matter but the thing broke to begin with because Linus and his crew didn’t have a real clue as to what they were doing.
      Apple has certification courses but it’s up to service providers to take the course.
      Here’s the course: training.apple.com/us/en/courses/Apple_Technician_Training/acmt_2017

    • @TesserLink

      I understand the Certification process, i can agree to it to a point but when you completely lock the consumer out of repairing/servicing "everything" in the machine they paid for because of certification that's a bit much. if it's a part like the screen to replace you shouldn't need to be certified to repair it but if the issue was a part on the logic board, yeah i can fully understand that it needs to be done by a certified professional. but the problem is that no one has the Certification right now, as Linus stated in his video. so if it was a normal broken machine by a means of say normal wear or bad part, no one could fix it.

    Respectfully disagree. Linus didn't try to modify anything, he just disassembled it. And as you can see from the video, he only broke the screen of it; no internal components. Yes the video looks a but staged but that's likely because they were filming a disassembly video; something other youtubers also do all the time. Linus wasn't complaining that Apple wouldn't fix their Mac specifically because they took it apart. He making people aware that Apple has released a product that they cannot fully support. No less a product that professionals rely on on a day to day basis. What if the child of a photoshop professional accidentally threw a ball at their parent's mac pro. They talk it to the apple store and Apple say that they can't. It's the same situation; it just happened to be that this customer was Linus. But that spark was dodgy.
    Speaking of dodgy, private internet access...ITSN'T. *insert sponsored message here*

    I work as an repair guy at an Apple Premium Reseller. It‘s the following. Apple has pretty darn hard rules when it comes to repairs. If you got a water damage for example, every part with any trace of water, wether it works or not, has to be replaced. This sounds bad, but it is good. You pay for a repair and when it is repaired, it should work perfectly afterwards.
    With this iMac, it is the following: It’s not just the glass, the probably found scratches and marks on delicate components. Following: „Replacement needed!“ And some parts, you can’t order as an repair, because this repair would be more expensive then the iMac it Self.
    We haven’t got enough details to be clear, but LLT should release the official servicing bill. Or some screenshot of his case at GSX. If I got his serial number, I would look it up my self.

      Nacho Valera i know many people who crashed their cars went to a auto shop and got it repaired and paid for it. I dont get your point they wanted to pay for it but apple couldnt do it. Hell if apple sold parts they could get it repair at a 3rd party.

  • @kubemthegray8805

    His point was that they couldn't receive the parts necessary to fix the product which is ridiculous because they shouldn't release a product if they are not able or wanting to provide support for it. Also your gtx 1080 example is ridiculous. He didn't solder or break any of the solder joints. He just needed replacement parts which they should be able to provide since they do provide parts for people under warranty they should similarly be able to provide parts for something someone else broke especially if they aren't asking for anything under warranty.

  • @mbasinger99

    Seriously dude? Accidents happen. If I cracked my screen by accident by it getting knocked over or moving it then I would expect Apple to fix it. You can't sale a $5000 machine and say yeah we can't fix it. That's poor customer service.

    • @liamstrong1012
      @liamstrong1012 5 лет назад

      Taking it apart should just void any warranty. They should still be willing to fix it for a fee, or at the very least, sell parts for someone else to fix it.

    • @liamstrong1012
      @liamstrong1012 5 лет назад

      @@seltjk obviously opening a product yourself voids the warranty - you've tampered with it and any problems could be caused by you. Where Apple is being ridiculously unreasonable is that they won't even repair your product if you PAY them yourself and they won't sell parts for anyone else to fix it either. This should be illegal. Consumer protections in the US are deplorable.

    You spent so much time complaining about the ad-reads. It's like half your video. "WHY DO YOU WANT TO MAKE MONEY, LINUS? SHILL!" He has nearly 20 employees, of course he has to make money. Do you think they all work for free?
    Also, openning a Mac and it breaking is a lot different than buying bootlegged parts and making your own phone.
    They didn't modify anything, they OPENNED it. They didn't take the CPU or GPU out, or switch the ram, or try to build a new computer in the Mac. They OPENNED it.
    And if you actually think that the parts that broke, the motherboard, the PSU, and the screen, are more expensive than the product, then to quote Linus "you're an idiot." They wouldn't build a fucking computer that costs more than they sell it for.

      This was out of line. You're being a dick for the sake of it, insulting his unintrusive business practices that he uses to pay his employees, and really made some stupid ass arguments that I suspect you know we're stupid.

    so many people missing the point of both videos lol
    1. Linus wanted to buy a screen from apple to fix it himself not that it couldnt be fixed
    2. yes apple could have and will fix ur device. they just arent letting u do it yourself unless u want to take the risk of having futher problems with ur device with no real "care plan " for it'
    3.Drew might have over stated the whole "modded" thing in his video whne it was just 'Self ' screen repair.
    4. we all know Linus is the complete opposite of Drew when it comes to tech so opinions will be fairly one sided.
    at the end of the day the dude has enough money and other pcs around him to use so it was never a real lost to him to begin with .
