THANK YOU for using a ‘bland’ caliber, like .308. I appreciate 6.5 and all the new stuff, but I just like my .30-30, .308 and. 30-06 because they work, ammunition is so available AND affordable. I enjoy your calm, intelligent and fair presentations. When you mentioned Bergara, I knew we were in for a treat! Blessings, Grace and Peace 😊
The rifle arrived today and I dialed in the scope just a couple hours ago ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQt2uORDRfFOVSrO4idv4B90ThT6EOnEL . I haven’t shot with a scope in probably 25 years. The X on the left was my target. (the shot almost in the bullseye on the right X was my father in laws first shot after I made adjustments) The two shots circled are my first 2 shots. Then I brought it down - shot once. Then brought it over to the left. From there zeroed it in to dead center. This all was from 25 yards out. Follow instructions carefully when mounting the scope. So far I'm very happy with the purchase.
A couple of things I appreciate about this rifle is that the LOP spacer is very well designed. I picked one of these up for my father in 350 Legend because he has some health issues that give him problems with recoil. He’s shorter and I had to take the spacer out. I was pleasantly surprised when I removed the recoil pad that the spacer didn’t just fall free, it’s actually screwed onto the other part of the buttstock. The dual sling studs are nice but kind of unnecessary. The trigger is nice, light and very consistent. Accepting Savage round-back (accutrigger) bases means good availability, however the rear scope mounting area is kind of small so be aware not every kind of mount may fit/work…also it’s a proprietary size so you can’t use Savage picatinny rails, but BPI Outdoors does sell rails directly on their site. The soft touch stock makes it grip well if your hands are wet and/or cold, which is nice. Threaded muzzle is also a plus and it’s standard thread pitch (5/8x24, except 450BM it’s 11/16x24 I believe). I smoothed the bolt out by polishing the bare metal part with some polish, then oiled it…runs smooth…overall a nice rifle for the money.
Yes sir. Thank you!! I am saving up for the CVA cascade chambered in 7 rem mag. I just got married so I gotta pinch the pennies for a bit but I love seeing reviews on guns that are on my purchase list by youtubers that I consider reliable sources.
Would love to see a new CVA Cascade XT review, it came out recently and looks like another good step in the right direction. Wish they would use flush cups by the way.
i've been shooting one (6.5 prc) for a couple years and just replaced it with a custom build. After load development, I could shoot 0.5 MOA groups fairly reliably and I'm no ace. But I had feeding issues with mine that spoiled opportunities on an elk and a bear, which was why I replaced it. It miss-feeds, bolt gets stuck, and gets misaligned jammed cartridges. It's hard on brass to the point that the ejector would chip off small flakes that would wind up jamming the firing pin. Case heads would show pressure signs with identical loads much faster than other rifles. The 3 lug design is a nice short throw, but way too heavy to operate while staying on target. If you disassemble the bolt I'd suggest rounding off the corner of the cocking seer ramp to shave several lbs off the bolt throw. I've tried cleaning up the feeding issues but never had any luck. Still for the money and it shoots such small groups? Hard to be that hard on them! For anyone who reloads and is shopping for a 6.5 prc, another plus is that the Cascade is a true long action with plenty of COAL clearance, so you loader longer rounds, like the Berger 156gr. Most 6.5 PRCs are short action and force you to risk a compressed load with bigger projectiles.
this is a great review Jason, almost exactly the same things that I have run into. once i found the right load the brass chips stopped happening. I don't understand why i was seeing pressure signs so early. i hated to see ejector marks on the brass. in fact my ejector pin got stuck down cause of the brass jamming in between pin and body. i still love the gun and will continue using the crap out of it. I do love that the 6.5 prc is built on a long action

@@i_are_penguin805 Being a lefty sure does limit a person on rifles. Fortunately, I shoot right handed (although I’m left eye dominant). So I’m in the lower half of Michigan. Below the straight wall cartridge line. I purchased a used CVA scout (.450 bushmaster) with a vortex scope and couldn’t get it to group. I was firm set on moving away from CVA and then upon talking to my local shop about .450’s we landed on this one with a VX-Freedom 3x9 scope and I have to say I am extremely satisfied with it. For the price point this rifle works and is solid. Might have to grab another in a different caliber (that’s how much I like it).
Never heard of this brand. Went to the store with an open mind and both guys there suggested I look at this since they both owned one. I got one in 308. Ordering a scope today and hopefully will be at the range on Sat. Thanks for the video. Gives me confidence that my impulse buy was not a bad one.
Military standards are a "3" shot group. I fully agree with the 3 shot group. Infact, when I'm zeroing a scoped rifle for long range, I will fire "1" shot and wait a minimum of 20 minutes before firing another. - I'm mainly concerned with "1st shot accuracy" of a cold bore.
Been looking a LOOONG time for a bolt gun in 450BM looked at offerings from Savage Ruger and CVA unfortunately the cost of the Savage and Ruger were so close to the CVA price I stumbled on and I felt the Cascade was definitely a better made rifle especially the stock for another $100 I went with the CVA as I waited until I found a LGS with a Cascade in stock on sale for darn near $160 less than anyone else and trust me when I say I looked 4-5× a week for a long time As I already had a scope base and rings the extra $100 was acceptable but if I had needed to buy a scope I would have bought the Savage 110 Apex. Really looking forward to see if I can get sub moa with my reloads at 100-200 yards. Bought this gun in 450BM to serve as my public land deer rifle as 12ga sabot slug ammo is now $23-$25 for a box of 5 All I needed to buy to reload 450BM was brass a few bullets (as I already shoot Hornady Interlock and FTX .452" bullets out of my inline ML's) and dies as I had a butt load of suitable bullets primers and powders.
Like to add an update. I have a little over 200 rounds of my reloads through my CVA Cascade in 450bm and 25 through the one I bought my son. I used Starline brass (only new unfired brass I could find to buy) Hornady LiL-Gun CCI SMRFLM primers .452" Hornady 245grn Interlocks, Hornady Custom Grade dies and a Lee Factory crimp die didn't bell the case mouth I let the bullet do that for me. The sub-moa accuracy I achieved from both rifles is nothing short of phenomenal and my MV is over 2400fps. Literally didn't fire a single reload out of either rifle that shot over 1" at 100 and all were under 2" at 200. Can not recommend this rifle and cartridge strongly enough.
@@aidand5941 I picked up the cascade in 450bm too. It’s an absolute gem and consistently sub MOA. I recently had it at the local 200yd range and was getting 1.1” 3-shot groups with Hornady black 250 grain rounds.
I really like the objectivity of your reviews. One thing that would be a nice add to your reviews would be to give the viewers a dimension (coal) of the cartridge that will fit in the supplied magazine. This is very valuable information to the handloader when making a decision on a factory rifle (Can I seat bullets out to optimize performance and accuracy). Keep up the good work, and keep the great content coming. Thanks for considering this.
I've never heard of this brand but I did jump out of the hobby for the last 2-3 years and just coming back now....I've heard of bergara and they're highly regarded from what I understand so this being a solid rifle makes sense
Did you get sent it from CVA or did you independently purchase it? Asking as I often wonder whether sent ones are hand picked and pre tested by the manufacturer so the reviewer gets outstanding results
I bought one in 350 legend when they first came out with the Cascade. I personally love the gun and it shoots flawless. I put a nice scope on it other than that that's all that's done to mine
Really glad to see this review! I ordered the CVA Cascade SB .300Blackout about 6 weeks ago. I cant wait for it to come in so that I can start playing with it!
Thank you for this review it, aided in making my purchase decision which I am thrilled with. I purchased one and a 300 PRC, which is a 1/2 rifle out of the box (no joke) it’s unbelievably accurate and doesn’t kick bad. Like you say crazy value
All three lug bolt guns have a 70 degree bolt lift, and 308 can have amazing accuracy with factory rifles (David Sharp shot a 3 inch group at 1000 yards using 150 gr 308 with a factory Savage rifle, only swapping out the stock and trigger).
I’m so happy you finally reviewed this gun! I’ve always been super curious and had no idea it’s Bergara in some ways! I can’t wait to pick one up soon!
even uses the same serial number pattern as bergaras. the only difference is bergara has a better stock and way better action. which is the only flaws to the cva cascade
Nice review. I have a CVA Optima in .45 cal. black powder I shoot deer with black powder season and an Optima 30-06/50 cal. Black Powder /combo. They are adequate but nothing to write home about. The bolt action looks interesting. I am into Savage rifles though. Even though your review on a couple of them were not all that good. I like the Accu-Triggers and the accuracy that I get from them. Not to mention the aftermarket availability of parts. Best part of the review I thought was about the factory ammo. Remington core lock ammunition is what got me into reloading. 4-inch groups at 100 yards are totally unacceptable from any ammo. Nice video glad you explained your 3 shot group evaluation. It makes sense. Bench shooters primarily want at least 5 shots. It really gives a better indicator on flyers. Even when doing a standard deviation to get a real reliable number it requires at least 10 shots. Nice content and very good review.
When I go back and watch your video from a few years ago where you compare a bunch of rifles with two of your co-conspirators, how would you rate this in that bunch? Is this your new #1 if you had been able to add this to the batch?
CVA was one of my favorites. But I had a brand new cva scout stainless pitted and rusted 1 week after ownership. Customer service was terrible and they did nothing to help fix it.
My cva cascade in 6.5 creedmoor thankfully shoot's really good with Winchester 129 grain power points my brother bought me some Hornady match 147 grain I haven't even tried yet will see what happens with it but I'm really happy with this gun
Maybe I missed it, but a great feature that you didn't cover is the Cerakote on the bbl and action. With all the Savage Axis rust problems that you have covered, I would think rustproofing the gun with ceramic would be a top three feature.
Was going to buy one last year and realized they do not make it in 30-06 or 270 for whatever reason. It is a nice gun from all the reviews I have seen.
Thanks for the review! I think I’m sold! I’ve been looking at the Bergara but knowing these are made in the place and so much for better priced for me I’m digging the camo on that CVA. Also, love that statue of Christ in the background 👍
i second this request. Tikka is the go to for a lot and sounds like almost guaranteed quality but you get so much with this cva plus threaded barrell that goes a long way im between the tikka t3x, cva, and mauser m18
I was going to buy a cva cascade until I held a howa 1500 standard with a hogue stock. it's unbeatable for me, just under $600. less than a .5" barrel with a variety of ammunition. I use the 168gr berger hybrids. it has a threaded barrel. 3-3.5lb HACT trigger. the trigger is 2-stage so not exactly desirable but still a very good trigger. definitely like the howa slightly better than the cva in my opinion.
Pull the trigger assembly out of the Howa and cut the spring by say 20% and you will have a ripper target trigger. That should take you about half an hour to do. I have had, and still have a number of Howas and have yet to find one that does not shoot
Edited! At first I wasn’t sold on this after getting one in my hands as I was used to Weatherby and Tikka bolts… Now I need a adjustable butt gun for youth hunters and WOW! This is THE gun that is accurate, has all the bells and whistles. Jumping on this over Ruger, Mossberg and Weatherby.
Bought one. Very nice rifle. Did not meet my accuracy standard. Sold it. Bought a Ruger American and the Ruger shoots circles around it. The cascade in 450 BM shot 1-1/2 to 2” at 100 yds. The Ruger right at MOA. I tried 4 loads from different manufacturers and different weights. Mine was a beautiful non performer.
Just wanted to add an update Got my CVA Cascade in FDE Cerakote with Vail camo synthetic stock Topped it with a Crimson Tide Brushline Pro 4-12×40 Put 7 different reloads through it first range session found five loads between 38.5-40.5 grains of Lil'Gun all shot sub moa largest group was .95" smallest .495" Guns sweet spot with Lil'Gun and .452" 245grn bullets is between 39.5 and 40.5 Even Hornady Custom ammo turned in a 100yrd 5 shot 1.12" group. Very very satisfied with my Cascade.
So it is a Ruger American with a better stock and slightly better magazine at a slightly higher price! Always good to have another choice in the market!
I just looked at one today, I was turned off by the bolt being sticky and was wondering if you oiled it up a bit if it would get better...I am glad you brought up that point. Thank you.
I picked one up in the gun shop. I was dead set on getting one, but the bolt looked semi rusty and it didn't flow smooth at all. I was really bummed that it didn't live up to expectations I had for it.
3 shot groups are completely adequate for hunting. The only thing you should be shooting more than 3 times is Grizz/Brownie or African dangerous 7. If more than 3 shots are needed for any ungulate than practice more, study animal anatomy more, and use bullets that actually penetrate.
You’ll still get the same recoil because you’d use around the same amount of powder. My guess is that the 7 PRC is going to be a shortened case like the 300 RCM and 6.5 PRC, to take some of the success of a 7 SAUM
If your shooting the same bullets at similar velocities its going to be about the same recoil. No getting around physics. I have a 28 Nosler in a 6 pound rifle and the recoil was stout, but with a break its about 270 level or less.
Pretty sure the 7 PRC is gonna be long/magnum action not short. I’m guessing the 7 PRC vs the 28 Nosler is gonna look like 300 PRC vs 30 Nosler. Pretty dang close
@@masone4589 What Hornady said was that it was going to be based on the 300 PRC, but that could also mean shortening it. All of the cartridges were based on the 375 Ruger, which parented the RCMs and shorter PRCs by proxy. So I'm still saying a shorter 7mm PRC is probably going to happen.
When i was looking at a new 308 i looked at those online. However no where on any of the ads i saw did it say if the barrel was threaded. Thabk you for clearing it up but i ended up getting the bergara instead. Maybe my next rifle will be a cva
I bet you could add noticeable accuracy and repeatability across more cartridges by 2 hrs work, glass bedding the recoil lug and the front of the receiver at the barrel. It's an easy glass bed job that makes a huge difference. Give it a try.
Deer hunting in Kentucky 3 shots is all that matters usually just 1st or 2 if you're lucky is all matters and honestly a long shot where I live is roughly 130
What you have to ask was the barrel cleaned the right way before test firing and is the barrell broke in I normally shoot 3 boxes cleaning as you go before I see a difference
Accuracy test Hornady American Whitetail soft point: 1.6" - 1.7" Rem Cor-lok soft point 4"+ Hornady precision hunter .9" Federal Premium Match Grade .41" ( not a hunting bullet ) Federal Powershok 1.2" Sig elite copper ( just over an inch )
he should try federal premium berger hybrid 168gr. very accurate hunting bullet. most .308win rifles like 165-168gr ammo the best. he was testing 30-06 ammo in the cva
I would like to see something like the Remington Alpha but cheaper with a stainless cerakoted barrel, similar carbon fiber stock, Timney type trigger, and 5 R rifling. 22 or so inches for woods but still super accurate.
cva cascade is my favorite bolt action
What about your 7-9 Ruger Americans?! Is the CVA better?
How much did they pay you to say that?

All I needed to buy to reload 450BM was brass a few bullets (as I already shoot Hornady Interlock and FTX .452" bullets out of my inline ML's) and dies as I had a butt load of suitable bullets primers and powders.
Awesome. Been looking for a 7mm rem mag that fits in the new baby budget 🙏🙏
The heavier the bullet is always better grouping for me in any 308 chambering I’ve had
Great review
Good looking rifle for sure
Sir. You saved me a huge headache. By mentioning the trigger set screw. Mine was really loose. Thank you. 😊
I've never heard of this brand but I did jump out of the hobby for the last 2-3 years and just coming back now....I've heard of bergara and they're highly regarded from what I understand so this being a solid rifle makes sense
Great review, nice to see you trying different ammo to get the best out of it.
He buys basically all of his review products
Really glad to see this review! I ordered the CVA Cascade SB .300Blackout about 6 weeks ago. I cant wait for it to come in so that I can start playing with it!
Where did you order it from? Which website?
You would think if a inexpensive CVA can w adjustable LOP that the expensive Springfield Waypoint could do the same at $1500
Nice review!
Thank you for this review it, aided in making my purchase decision which I am thrilled with. I purchased one and a 300 PRC, which is a 1/2 rifle out of the box (no joke) it’s unbelievably accurate and doesn’t kick bad. Like you say crazy value
I'd like to see this compared with the other budget rifles you reviewed previously.
I have one in 450 bushmaster the rifle has really impressed me
I feel heard! I made that exact comment about 3 shoot groups on your review of the Weatherby. Keep it up good work on the review!
I also have this rifle in 308. I am happy with it. CVA Cascade will probably be my next in 6.5 PRC
All three lug bolt guns have a 70 degree bolt lift, and 308 can have amazing accuracy with factory rifles (David Sharp shot a 3 inch group at 1000 yards using 150 gr 308 with a factory Savage rifle, only swapping out the stock and trigger).
Yep with skinny barrels multiple three shot groups is the way to go...very nice review...Thanks
I have one in 350L that I got from Wal-Mart and it is fantastic! I giggle a little every time I shoot it.
Woooaa, slow down man, your not getting a bergara rifle lol , do more research
I've had mine for about 8 months and no complaints. been waiting for this review for awhile now awesome to see other opinions on this 👍
Keep doing this man. Look forward to your stuff.
I have three CVA guns. The cascade, Accura, and wolf muzzleloaders. Taken deer with all three. CVA has great guns no matter the money.
Got one last year in 6.5 PRC, great value. Nail driver.
If you had to choose between a CVA Cascade and a Bergara Ridge based on performance alone which one would you choose?
No 270, no deal... For me anyway
Backfire & Honest Outlaw are pretty much my go-to for all things and always watch before I buy. Can you to do the new CVA LRH and VH now???
Would be interesting to see how a barrel tuner *might* tame those groups on the different loads? ?
Thanks for the review! I think I’m sold! I’ve been looking at the Bergara but knowing these are made in the place and so much for better priced for me I’m digging the camo on that CVA. Also, love that statue of Christ in the background 👍
can you compare this gun to the Tikka/Bergara/Weatherby? I want to see how it lines up with the 3 best from the $750 competition?
i second this request.
What barrel contour did you get ?
Howard are really good value. I had good luck with my tikka
@@csjrogerson2377 0.5" barrel length is too much muzzle blast and loss of velocity. It's also illegal in a rifle.
I’m ordering one for my Father’s Day gift in 308. Excited to know ammo that this thing loves. Can’t wait to get setup!
I have this gun in the short barrel. It is fantastic. My best rifle for sure.
I was looking at that .308 SB. 18 inches is plenty and leaves room for a suppressor. Shoots good groups for you?
@@lessforloans I think it's an a excellence choice. Shoots great groups for me, I just need to practice more at the range.
I have 3 of them and they shoot great and I put the threaded barrel to good use.
I like the CVA cascade so much I bought two of them 308 and 6.5 PRC they will shoot just as good as my higher priced riffles
Budget is a very relative term. I have one in 350 legend and it consistently shoots sub moa with 180 grain Winchester it loves them
Just got one in 243, added a Vortex Diamondback tactical 4-12x40 scope, now to try it out.
Got mine in 7 rem mag and absolutely love it. Only complaint is I’d like to get a new stock but hard to come by do to the unique action layout.
@@RubenGonzalez-qk1zn 1/9.5
Get a real caliber
Some states have laws that force you into straight wall cartridges
Very nice indeed. You do really great reviews.
Just wanted to add an update
Got my CVA Cascade in FDE Cerakote with Vail camo synthetic stock
Topped it with a Crimson Tide Brushline Pro 4-12×40
Put 7 different reloads through it first range session found five loads between 38.5-40.5 grains of Lil'Gun all shot sub moa largest group was .95" smallest .495"
Guns sweet spot with Lil'Gun and .452" 245grn bullets is between 39.5 and 40.5
Even Hornady Custom ammo turned in a 100yrd 5 shot 1.12" group.
Very very satisfied with my Cascade.
You from 'Bama?
So it is a Ruger American with a better stock and slightly better magazine at a slightly higher price! Always good to have another choice in the market!
No it is not a ruger
I just looked at one today, I was turned off by the bolt being sticky and was wondering if you oiled it up a bit if it would get better...I am glad you brought up that point. Thank you.
Congratulations on 500k ❤️
Thank you!
Always make great, informative and entertaining content !!!!!
It also has an extra forward lug for a bipod.
I picked one up in the gun shop. I was dead set on getting one, but the bolt looked semi rusty and it didn't flow smooth at all. I was really bummed that it didn't live up to expectations I had for it.
That sucks too here. I got mine from sportsman's warehouse. The bolt is shiny and really smooth. I have no complaints with mine. Keep looking.
Great review of the CVA cascade.
Please do a review of the Sako S20 vs Sig Sauer cross
Great review! .308 good choice for review. Thanks
Where would the Cascade rank in your under $750 gun battle?
Awesome video as always!
Thank you for what you do!
A lot depends on the individual rifle and finding ammo that works especially for budget guns. It's more art than math figuring out a combo that works.
3 shot groups are completely adequate for hunting. The only thing you should be shooting more than 3 times is Grizz/Brownie or African dangerous 7. If more than 3 shots are needed for any ungulate than practice more, study animal anatomy more, and use bullets that actually penetrate.
Wait, do you think a 3 shot group is for hunting practice?
I have this rifle in 350 Legend. Absolute tack driver. Biggest complaint is it doesn't always feed well. Nice rifle for the price.
Any news on the 7mm PRC?! Man I want to sling a 180gr ELDM at 3000fps in a hunting rifle without 28 nosler level recoil
You’ll still get the same recoil because you’d use around the same amount of powder. My guess is that the 7 PRC is going to be a shortened case like the 300 RCM and 6.5 PRC, to take some of the success of a 7 SAUM
You can do that or close to it with 7 WSM, 7 Sherman max/mega, and possibly even a 7 saum
This model in 6.5 prc with ELD-X has awesome group!
I bet you could add noticeable accuracy and repeatability across more cartridges by 2 hrs work, glass bedding the recoil lug and the front of the receiver at the barrel. It's an easy glass bed job that makes a huge difference. Give it a try.
Thank you for your Time.
Deer hunting in Kentucky 3 shots is all that matters usually just 1st or 2 if you're lucky is all matters and honestly a long shot where I live is roughly 130
Nice gun! Please review the franchi momentum elite next! Please!
Damn. I was not expecting that core lokt group. My Remington 660 prints .75” groups with 150gn core lokt.
What you have to ask was the barrel cleaned the right way before test firing and is the barrell broke in I normally shoot 3 boxes cleaning as you go before I see a difference
Accuracy test
Hornady American Whitetail soft point: 1.6" - 1.7"
Rem Cor-lok soft point 4"+
Hornady precision hunter .9"
Federal Premium Match Grade .41" ( not a hunting bullet )
Federal Powershok 1.2"
Sig elite copper ( just over an inch )
he should try federal premium berger hybrid 168gr. very accurate hunting bullet. most .308win rifles like 165-168gr ammo the best. he was testing 30-06 ammo in the cva
I would like to see something like the Remington Alpha but cheaper with a stainless cerakoted barrel, similar carbon fiber stock, Timney type trigger, and 5 R rifling. 22 or so inches for woods but still super accurate.
So how would you compare this to the Ruger American? Looking to purchase my first firearm and wanting to hopefully get my first deer this year.
Im looking at my first hunting bolt action, thanks your videos are helpful
