I was sitting in a local restaurant & this played. I completely broke down. I went to the car leaving my husband. He packed up our food. I lost my mom to leukemia in 1986 and upon hearing that song- it unlocked a memory of me spinning on the carpet while my mom played this record. This was right before she passed. So strange how music can unlock such a beautiful memory. ❤
When it said Sweet lovers, Marie made sure to look at Donny in order to crack him up. He couldn't look at her because he would lose it and they'd have to do another take. Of course the absurdity of those lines stuck them as strange but it was such a beautiful song they wanted to do it. A good friend and I used to sing the song on the steps of the High School we were walking past. I just sent her the video. Hope her husband has a sense of humor like my friend does. I haven't thought of it in a while and it just popped into my mind. Love them both still. What voices they have. I wish they still recorded and put out records. Everyone else is doing it. We're the tail end of the Boomers. We think we're Gen X , still clinging to looking great @60+ !!
Same! I watched their show w/my parents. I had/have several Donny & Marie albums, a couple solo Maries & Tony Orlando & Dawn, a DiFranco Family and Shawn Cassidy as well.
I remember I was about 7 and this song was playing in the car, we were trying to sing this song but our english was terrible but it was so much fun . Thanks for the memories😊😊
Same hear. It was one of Mom’s favorites when I was young and she would to hear it over and over again. That song just popped in my mind and just like you, I’m just had to hear it! ❤️🥲
I was 13 years old in 1976 when this song was out .I loved it and other songs like the other side of the mountain; and I'm leaving it up to you: which was Marie's first performance on stage with Donny and as you no the rest is history. They did years of the Donny and Marie Shows .like sonny and Cher and the Jackson 5 who where earlier doing shows then the Osmands?. It was the in thing in the 60s and 70s with families singing on stage; or couples. but as years fly in and they get older like there then fans get married and have children as you no some have made it and done well while others are known but not as famous as they use to. So like others like Judy Garland exetra L.A.S Vegas is the place to start over again. but thankfully people there no these singers and enjoy going back down memory lane again.😊💖🙏AS They Say theres always a light at the end of the 🌈🌈🌈🌟🌠🌞🎸💖👏👏👏👏👍🙏
When I was a kid I thought Donnie and Marie were husband and wife. I had this strange idea that if two people stayed married long enough that they would start to look like each other. Advanced thoughts from a 6 year old.
Absolutely right about the caricature of Marie looking like Karen, Dave.. Both very talented inside and out, one gone way to soon. However, the music lives on forever. I’m 65, thanks for making me feel 45 years younger with your posts.
when families where love , was held ....As bonding its members though anything in this world ... this is what love is This state of mind brings wonderful peace in our short span of time MassVocals
Even though they believe that I am going to burn in hell forever, I will always love Donnie and Marie. They meant so much to me when I was growing up. They offered a safe, but cheesy, space in a confusing world. This song in particular, for me, is peak D&M. I was way too excited when Donnie showed up on The Masked Singer and believe he should have won. And I still smile when I see Marie on commercials. Good memories
Marie was a classy, tastefully fashionable young lady back then, compared to today's young women who opt for fashions that show too much skin, and many older women, instead of influencing them to dress properly, encourage it by copying from them to make them appear younger. 🙄
That confirms that I was correct with the 'Bonus Question' from the pub quiz my older brother occasionally mentions to me in our regular exchanges of emails, about the iconic British Rock band whose name was inspired by a favourite 1930s song of the grandmother of the group's lead guitarist. Deep Purple was my answer although I have yet to receive the reply from my brother to say whether or not I was correct. I see your real name is Ravshan Alirzaev, if you don't mind my revealing that here and you're from Tashkent. I have a song, the music of which was composed by a composer from Tashkent at my RUclips channel, 'Mít aero a létat' ('To Have A Plane And To Fly'), sung by Valérie Čižmárová, for whom I run the Fan Blog 'Hotlips On The Horse Tram'. That composer was Yuri Antonov. I hope you enjoy that!
In this early rendition, @1:46 Marie's speaks instead of sings some of the vocals. That is the only difference between this version & the single version. Andy Williams was a guest on this show and coincidentally, when Donny & Marie (& the Osmonds) were guests on Andy's syndicated variety show later that same year, they also performed "Deep Purple". But this time it was the single version.
I like the song as well as their outfits. I wonder if The Wonder Twins were influenced by Donny and Marie. I heard that a certain rock group was influenced by this song (Smoke On The Water). Thanks for sharing this Dave. Have a great day. Stay safe and comfortable. 🎶💜💟🌌
They did a nice job singing this, but they changed some key words. This song is about one person who has lost one love, not a bunch of lovers. The original line is; For as long as my heart will beat, sweet lover we'll always meet, here in my deep purple dreams. They sing; "sweet lovers will always meet, here in my deep purple dreams.", which doesn't really fit one person's, deep purple dreams.

Not really. The original version was also recorded by a brother and sister; April Stevens and Nino Tempo. As well, it's just an interpretation with two different vocal ranges. Exactly what is so weird about that?

Who's here 2024
Me, cause nothing makes my genitals vibrate as hard as watching siblings go crazy over one another, just love it!
I remember them performing this on their Sunday night tv show. A cover of April and Nino, (who were also sister and brother). Beautiful song.
Saw Donny in December just before Christmas...Great show.
Me😅
Here after hearing Dean Martin sing this on SiriusXM's '40s Junction. I actually like D&M's version better, so I decided to look it up.

I confess I didn't remember it when my table was assigned to sing a clip for the Donny High Reunion in January. What fun that turned out to be!
Thank you.i love this song.❤
Grew up wif them!! Love it
I miss the 70s!
I miss them a lot, too.
People @ that time acted with class and lived in real self-awareness of who and what they were, especially @ gender.

I still have this 45 it's in the top of my closet 🙂
One of my favorite shows and favorite songs as a young child 💜
Always loved this song, especially this version.
Nino Tempo and April Stevens slightly better but i was in a 70s mood..
Me too! I remember this version well ❤️
it charted in 1976 but this version played in 1963.
Straight, tame, copy of April and Nina's version
Another more I love song which Deep purple so amazing both voices thank you for this which I love.

And they sang much better and we're much better looking.

And in the 50's no one thought two women dancing together was weird either; it just meant there was a shortage of men. Nowadays some people would look at you sideways. 😉 How times have changed.... 🙄
It's called a duet. They're singing together, not to each other.
Sort of kinda creepy knowing its brother and sister. Did they really have to hold each other?
Not really.
The original version was also recorded by a brother and sister; April Stevens and Nino Tempo.
As well, it's just an interpretation with two different vocal ranges.

Bing Crosby’s original version is pretty good too.

There was a girl. There was a boy. 😂
A strange that made them pile of money, coz it was NOVEL!
And I love 💜 deep eggplant 🍆 purple.
So this is the version Rose Melberg covered with her parents.
I reckon Karen and Richard Carpenter beat these siblings at it!
Stop it they are just singing as a duet.
