Mission Orbis - Flying Inside the World’s Only Flying Hospital

- The Orbis Flying Eye Hospital is unlike any plane I've seen before!
A state-of-the-art teaching facility complete with operating room, classroom and recovery room - all housed on board an MD-10-30. I am delighted to follow Orbis on a trip to Ghana to see first hand how the Orbis team transform lives by preventing blindness and restoring eyesight.
This amazing aircraft has been an example of the marriage between medicine and aviation! This third incarnation of the Flying Eye Hospital can fly nearly twice as far as its predecessor and requires only two pilots rather than three.
There’s nothing more beautiful than seeing this beautiful world in your own eyes. It was one of the most meaningful week in my life. The smile on the patient's face when they regain eyesight was one of the best memories ever!
I will be donating all of the video advertising proceeds to Orbis to help prevent blindness and restore eyesight for those less privileged. Donate via donate.orbis.org/ today to fight the Crisis in Sight! Together we can make a difference!
This plane holds a special place in my heart. My father is an eye surgeon and he was invited to perform some surgeries on the plane. I still remember seeing this plane in person. Hope to work inside it one day just like my old man did.
Thanks for reading...
The actual good side of humanity that we almost NEVER see these days.
@Ivan's Gamin' who's birthday?
Ivan's Gamin' not everyday
Great comment. It was great to have such opportunity to produce a vlog for Orbis of the mazing work they're doing.
It's all about politics and who has the money and power these days
Yes, they’re preserving a Trijet. That’s what you meant right :)
1985:in the future we will see flying cars
2019:flying hospital.
Dude, there were flying cars in the late '40s.
Alex vilsta this is better
Actually, this started in 1973 and the first Orbis plane flew in the year 1982
2020: flying tacos so you don’t have to use your fork
U work at lemonde?
My dad(Engineer) and brother worked on this plane, and I got to tour the plane when they finished. So proud of them. What a great project.
Will Caleb that would have been so cool!

Wow, props to all of the volunteers! An eye surgeon working as a flight attendant. This is truly 100% volunteer operated.
Wheres the proof
I think we all could learn quite a bit from the surgeon volunteering as a flight attendant
Without a doubt
A guy to admire.
Why am I just now seeing this video? This is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. A flying hospital with Volunteers and a surgeon volunteering as a Flight Attendant in addition to volunteering to teach doctors at his destination. This is what we should all strive to do taking care of each other and those less fortunate. This is amazing. Thanks for sharing Sam.
wow Sam. !!!
This is seriously incredible! Thank you Sam for sharing Orbis with the world!
Bro, at this rate I wouldn't be surprised if Sam became a space tourist.
An Elon's costumer in near future
thats the only thing flying he hasnt done.
Dude that would be awesome he should review all the space tourism and space transportation options in the future.
What.....how?!?!?!??!?!?
Tash don't be that uneducated!
I have sponsored Orbis for many many years - very happy to see this video - this is an absolutely superb charity
Thank you so much for your support!! We love what we do and we couldn't do it without your help
Blessings

Such a humble set of people. Not everyday you'll see a surgeon serve food. Wonderful
Awesome that the pilots and the flight attendants volunteer - and lovely to see a lady on the flight deck!!!
Indeed. However there are many more Orbis volunteer came to Ghana on their own time donating their time to help.
“Not everyday you have a birthday”
Yea it’s once a year
Ben Bree, true, but....there is at least A birthday everyday. 😂😂😂
There are 3 birthdays one, the birthday date, the day before and after.
My mom had a double birthday by flying from Shanghai to Los Angeles on the day of her birthday, landing just before her birthday began again.
@@leotard2536 did she get two gifts and two cakes 😂😂
@@leotard2536 Lol my friend had a really long birthday flying Hong Kong to Vancouver
I love the way they wear their best dresses to go to Hospital/ORBIS to have the procedure done... It must be such a momentous occasion to get your sight back. I Love it.

I thought I saw Captain Obvious in the cockpit for a second.
Dude I literally just wrote the same comment an hour before you you absolute spastic
Give Sam a break he's busy trying to look like a doctor... Plus he's drunk on cake.
Fernando VILLARREAL He was referring to himself. It was his birthday on board that day.
@@longstandingemperor5009 yep I guessed that... They got him a cake and sang happy bday.
More folks should know these big ole companies like FedEx support this kind of humanitarian outreach! Incredible.
To live the dream of being a pilot, flying with the one you love, and for such a great cause -- I can't think of anything better!
I am from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and I was so so happy that you landed in Jeddah 👍😂🇸🇦🇸🇦🇸🇦🇸🇦
Husband and Wife flying together, awesome!
VK RADIO no time to argue, they must cooperate to get to their destination.
This is something that all married couples should learn.
I know right
It's a great thing that they spend their free time doing a good thing with their profession.
Good to see FedEx giving back to the community.. Nice Job FedEx 👍🏾
Qantas / Allan Joyce should do the same . He has been sending 747’s to the scrap yard lately
Brandon Kirwan Fattest lie ever because the 747 in Qantas is still used and if one plane goes to the scrap yard they all do.
AKIN Maybe just trying to cover up that they overwork Their pilots every day!
Thank you Sam. I truly admire Doctors, medical staff and organisations who give back to the world, especially when it comes to vision. Something we all take for granted until we experience it ourselves. Well done Orbis.
Kudos to the engineers who designed the hospital.
My dad works at Orbis! Great job for reviewing the FLYING EYE HOSPITAL!
Damn i'm shipping with FedEx next time. That's not joke of a donation
Thank you for the support, FedEx is part of the Orbis family and we could not do it without them!

Thank you so much Sam for liking my comment. You have no idea what this means to me
Sam: I love how wholesome and positive you and your channel are! You are a wonderful example for the rest of the world to follow, keep up the great work!
Sam you deserve a crisp high five for the amazing content you put out. I’m sure orbis will see an influx of donations thanks to you.
Excellent ! As a Physician and Aviation Enthusiast this is solid gold for me !!!
Didn't know there's a flying hospital !
An aviation enthusiast physician, that's an amazing combination!
Sam, thank you for delivering such meaningful content. Few RUclipsrs will do such content as they might be more concerned with viewership and the profit from it.
The fact that you have taken up this project shows that you have the power and resources to bring something different and more rewarding to the online media.
Hope that you can do more of such content to show the world how others live life differently from us and for us to appreciate and celebrate the diversity. And also to know that there are kind people- the pilot, the crew, the medical team etc who are making a difference in the world.
You think he paid for his cake or did Orbis?
Hahaha, it was him who paid for it. It was great having Sam with us and we are thankful that he showed what we do around the world.
The fact that he’s already getting paid a lot before helps just saying😄all he do is for money don’t forget that
Everyone: talking about the video
Me: talking about the MD10 return
Thanks for helping out Gahana! I have a coworker from Gahana who recently returned home to see his family. Real nice man and a good worker.
Also good thing I've been utilizing FedEx recently helps support them who support orbis.
#Ghana!
Thank you FedEx!
This is the longest video I’ll watch from Sam chui
Good job
Rather pompous.. Sam has fabulous videos. Sam, I always watch yours from start to finish. You are one of the BEST youtubers around. Keep up the phenomenal work...
John Keyes Although his airline flight reviews are rather fake and staged. Only says the good things etc because the airline is possibly paying him. If you want honest reviews, Josh Cahill
Is it a bird?
Is it a plane?
No, its a hospital!
Wrong. It’s a plospital.

Wow.....Sam! This is an incredible video. One of my favorites! This is a great example of reaching out and helping others. Thank You for doing this video. Keep up the great work! Love your channel!!!
10:45 Perfect Landing! I like how the Fed-X team volunteers their time to FlyingEye (husband/wife...how cool is that, right?) and can you believe the Eye Surgeon is humble enough to serve Sam a Yummy dinner!...but what I Really Like is the dancing Hula doll on the "dashboard"...this is classic "Mom and Dad" , pile the kids into the Chevy station wagon. We're goin' campin'!!
Noticed even the captain helping setting up the equipment on the tarmac and having a go at looking the result after the lady operation using the microcope ? How cool that is. They all look like spirited boys scouts.
Did Sam just say "not everyday you have a birthday"
Sagecedar yes lmao 😆
Yep he is idiot
he's right lol
In an md 11, inflight. He added on later
To be fair I think he did allude to having birthday on a plane... But he is still an idiot.

OMG what an amazing cause and an incredible story to cover. Thank you for bringing this to our attention Sam, totally awesome! How blessed are those of us who live in first world countries; but how blessed are we that human beings pay things forward! Much love to an incredible team of volunteers who use and dedicate their amazing skills to those who would otherwise miss out. I love this so very much. Volunteers, regardless of their skills are the life blood of many organisations and this planet. PS: for those of you with smary-arsed comments, don't watch and why bother comment. I'm sorry, but the people who disliked this video. How??!!?!?! As viewers, we get to see great people change an individual's life. Is that not enough? Amazing video Sam!
This is one of the most fascinating videos I have seen on RUclips. What a great departure from the average trip report.
I was Flight attendant on the MD 11, with Swissair. I flew many times from Zürich to Accra.
Were we stayed for 2 or sometimes 4 nights. Good memories. This Video is absolutly astonishing.

I don't understand WHY anyone would "dislike" this video.
Agree,.
Sometimes I come back to videos and find I have disliked them. It seems suspicious, because I know I wouldn’t dislike those videos
Dr. Antonio is a treat to watch in this video. Despite being a surgeon he has no airs of a DOCTOR. He serves food in the aircraft. Through gentleman. Hats of to U Sam for this. Lots of love from INDIA 🤘🤘👍
My favorite Video to date was “Orbis” What a beautiful and selfless act of all the drs. Nurses, crew And staff of Fed Ex. Thank you.

This is the very first video of Sam’s I’ve watched, and I must say, I was impressed within the first 30 seconds. This was a no brainer, automatic subscribe, and it’s humbling to see such great work happening around the world. Such beautiful people in Ghana, and amazing staff, pilots, crew, doctors, and nurses.

That would be great! Mobile library but level 99 boss rated.

It would need to be really quite in the cabin and would need to feel like it's at a low altitude. Almost like a Dreamliner.
Wait till a flying airport comes
Forgive me but how would you get to the flying airport?
I couldn't imagine not having eyesight so these people are doing God's work
I watched this video when it was first released and was amazed and inspired at the fantastic work the Orbis team do. I now donate to this wonderful service. Such a worthy cause.

Very good coverage of this amazing and unique operation. Frankly I had no idea this plane had so much equipment to operate, think "fully accredited hospital". Really impressive and show what the humans are capable of when they really want it.
