  • Here's the updated version that explains the mold failure since I exceeded temperature rating. Good for about 5 or 6 pours, then silicone fails. I knew this going in, these are not the first Max60 molds Iv'e made. I have some molds that are still up and running.

Love the video and the one before. What kind of melting equipment are you using to melt the zinc?

Good luck on a new endeavor. Actually this video belongs on my other channel for casting. I've got some good info videos on sand casting there. Here's the link.

How long did you let the metal coin cool inside the molding before removing the coin from the molding?

I have found that in order to extend the life of a MOLD MAX 60 mold we need to get the piece out as soon as it freezes up. I judge that by watching the top of the spru freeze. Usually about 20 seconds. Contrary to graphite molds you actually want to let the MOLD MAX 60 cool down some before doing the next pour. I've been pouring more in pewter for my jewelry items lately due to better flow and lower melting temp. Pewter looks better than zinc and can be done on a stove top, but costs more compared to my zinc which is practically free. I did purchase the cheapest electric melting furnace I could find on Amazon. Works really well on the zinc. I moved all my metal melting videos to a new channel so here's the link.

Hello! How many casts can you get on one mold before it stars to tear apart?

There are a lot of factors that will determine the number of casts you will get, like the casting temperature, the total mass, number of consecutive pours to name a few. My experience is with zinc pouring at about 600 degrees. In the mold in this video I got about 12 coins before I had to quit using the mold, but I could hzve done better if I had followed my own tips to extend the life. Like remove the cast as soon as it freezes and let the mold cool down before the next cast.
