- In 1970 Candi Staton made her national TV debut on an Eddy Arnold TV special called "Sound America." The show starred Arnold, Roy Clark, Sammi Smith, John Davidson, and NBC radio commentator Alex Dreier. A highlight of the show was when country star and guitar virtuoso Roy Clark and Candi Staton did this gutbucket blues of B.B. King's "The Thrill is Gone."

Play it Roy and sing it Candi! Y’all did B.B. and Lucille proud!🎼🎵🎶🎤🎸
Roy Clark is playing that guitar 🎸! Yes sir… Candi is singing, what a beautiful combination!
One of the greatest singers in music history. True talent, beauty, and class. Why can't we have more Candi Staton's and less Cardi B's ? Excellent playing Roy.
Man, I really wish Roy concentrated more on showcasing his guitar wizardry to the world and passed on his comedy shtick, he would've been more remembered as the guitar master he really was. His name would've been up there with Clapton, page, Beck and whoever else you could name, he was as good and better than most but he never seemed to take it seriously. He never appeared on stage with all the other greats and how awesome would it have been to see him playing next to Stevie Ray Vaughn? WOW!!
boy can play, girl can sing. Total class.
Hey folks, remember when TV was free and entertaining?
Que guitarrista
I love candi ... her voice gives me shivers ... very nice clip ... also dig the hair :-)
There are so many great guitiar players out there in whatever genere you want to talk about. Roy Clark is there with anybody you want to talk about. Unreal!!!
Thanks Candi and the wonderful versatility of Mr. Clark. He can play any style. Love your voice.
Roy Clark . Amazing man
Both Candi and Gladys rocked Afros on their performances.
What a great find.
found another goodie tonite.
This is awesome. Two great talents! I know about Roy. but Candi is new to me. Karl
Wonderful to hear Candi back in her prime. Thanks for posting!

WOW !!! i only knew the BB King version.
awesome..
Looked like Roy was digging it! Cool video!
THIS... is interesting.
Dope!
Could have been better if not so short! Was this edited? You can't rush the blues. I would have liked to see Roy stretch out here. Beautiful Candi Staton is still singing to this day. Bless her. Roy Clarke R.I.P.
Hi Carousel, No, it wasn't edited. It was a TV special and the songs were all around two minutes in length. Thanks for the compliment and for watching.

Play three quarter speed to get a proper sound. That will b all!
Spot on!
wow i never heard this before how cool, but we really shouldnt need to hear fantastic rare stuff because we just havent had "let's give em something to talk about" shoved far enough up our ass holes/ and of course we still have a few micrometers to stuff the 6 or 7 out of thousands of elvis songs--hep we really need to hear jailhouse rock and love me fuckin tender for the 5,ooooth time- thank god for satelight radio and cable BUT BEWARE when you leave and enter 200 song playlist corporateville
Not a Roy Clark best.
Pitchy, and played too much. Blah
Yep, Roy was a great player, but out of his element on this one. He almost sounded like a kid trying too hard to get a gig. I hope Candi and BB King forgave him! :-(
