Could you do a video for birth partners about postpartum, what to expect, ways to help mama and baby, and the signs of postpartum depression? There’s very little info out there for Dads preparing them for how rough the postpartum period can be on mamas and how to help. Thanks for the awesome videos, and keep them coming!
would you recommend or think it's a good idea to use cloth diaper inserts opposed to feminine pads? I don't usually use disposable feminine products unless the organic ones are biodegradable? That would be great too. Thoughts? TIA!
Just had the birth of my dreams on the 23rd and I want you to know that you played a big role! Also I made padsicles from an idea in one of your other videos and they were so nice to have
Congratulations! Mind if I ask you how much you paid for the Essential Lavender Oil _therapeutic grade_ ... I'm finding it on Amazon for *flippin' $80/oz!*
Thanks a lot for putting so much time in making these videos. I just had my second born, which was much much easier than the first birth. Your videos helped a lot. Bless you
These things have been a lifesaver! I gave birth to my 8.5 lb baby on the 20th and had a tear on the right side of my labia. My perineal tear doesn’t even hurt, but my labia has been pretty unhappy. If it weren’t for padsicles, I would be a mess. I’m a mess anyway, but I’d be a bigger mess lol
I love that you are using COTTON pads. With my first baby I didn't know where to find cotton pads. Those pads u have on the table JUST came into my local drug store within the last 6months!
What essential oils did you use during labor, especially for nausea? I’ve found that peppermint helps me with both nausea and anxiety, but do you recommend anything else? What about essential oil room sprays?
Love love this and your videos! I had my son this year and the postpartum recovery was the hardest part for me, but the padsicles made it better. I had a 3rd degree tear, but I am seeing a pelvic floor therapist and plan to do more prep before my next birth. Thank you.
I would really like to see a video on essential oils during pregnancy. So many people are against it so I’ve never done a lot of research for using oils during pregnancy. I would definitely be interested.
I would too. I was so conflicted early on because I seen a lot info saying not to use them (because they aren’t fully understood and tested), but also that there was a lot of articles saying “we know THESE ONES aren’t safe, but the others we’re unsure. And this small group is definitely safe (ex: lavender)” But then here’s what I decided. I’m gonna follow the safe list. I don’t ingest oils. I use them topically (in lotions, soaps) and for aromatherapy. But I’m not going to obsess over it… BECAUSE we’re basically told we can use a whole host of chemicals during pregnancy. Things in our shampoo, mouthwash, pads, laundry soap, etc… to me theyre a lot more dangerous than oils. Can oils be dangerous? 100% yes. But from the “safe” list I feel better rubbing a lotion on with natural ingredients including eucalyptus and grapefruit than I do rubbing “fragrance, PEG’s, aluminum, parabens, propalene glycol, etc”. And that’s apparently “ok” but lavender “isn’t tested”. Know what I mean???
@@KewBlinkla Totally agree. Just make sure your oils are diluted before using, a lot of them can cause skin irritation etc if used without being diluted. Also you need to diluted them in oil... not water. Oil and water do not mix and you will be getting the oil at full potency.
Thank you!!!! I’m due Feb. 2nd and you Have been my Favorite doula to watch and learn from. I feel a lot more confident going into my daughters Birth because of you. (My first born) Im in Walnut Creek! So, not too far from you! :)
I’d love to see a video on essential oils! I’d like if you showed us a variety of oils and what they can be used for. I’ve also been wondering which oils are unsafe to use and how to use the „safe“ oils safely! Thank you for this video, I’ll definitely be implementing these tips into my postpartum care ✨
When should I start to prepare my padsicles to have a little stock pile in my freezer? I'm 28 weeks today. Also want to mention that I love your videos!! I love that you try to explain in different ways of any topic! Thank you!
I just made these, without the spray bottle, so I mixed a couple drops of the lavender into approx 2 tbsp of witch hazel. I could make 2-3 pads per 2 tbsp. So with the Thayers Witch Hazel 355ml bottle, I made 18 pads. I used the L ultra thin, regular size pads (42 pack). I still have tons of the lavender oil and aloe left, so if I need to make more, I'll just need more witch hazel. I might use a spray bottle if I need to make more too. I think that would help spread it more evenly and maybe even use less liquid per pad.
Curious if the lavender oil dilutes in the witch hazel? My instinct says no, and if it doesn't I'm not sure I want to be applying undiluted lavender oil anywhere on my skin let alone my sore bits. 🤔
I have found all of these products with a spray attached to them - my question is; is it all right if I spray it wet with the witch hazel then just give one spray of lavender followed by the aloe?. Or would that give it too much lavender and I should just buy a separate spray bottle for the better ratio? Also I have found the thayers witch hazel with lavender already in it, should I just get that one?
I have real aloe plants how can I use them, like squeeze the juice out on the pad? As opposed to at first I was imagining cutting a long chunk of gel and laying it right on the pad?
Curious about your take o numbing spray? I experienced Severe bleeding on my thrombosed hemorrhoid 2 weeks back (currently in my 36 weeks) and the possibility of having it again post partum on top of the wonderful thing that is expected to be happening “down there” haunts me.
I'm delivering my first in a few weeks, Do mommas take these to the hospital or is this something you keep for when you're home? Do labor rooms usually have a refrigerator?
These were no where near cold enough for me. A full on pack of ice was WAY better for me. Thankfully my hospital had lots of ice and plastic bags available for free! Just needed a cloth in between the two!
Hi Bridget, I loved the video but totally off topic question. Can you do an in depth video about how you became a doula? Was it hard to find work, any advice on people considering becoming a doula etc Thank you :)
I could have sworn there was an essential oils video recently uploaded and now it’s gone? 😫 that was next on my list! Anyway I love your videos and have been sending to my mom and hubby as we prepare for a natural birthing experience next month!! Unfortunately we could not afford a doula so we are researching everything we can and taking advantage of free classes to prepare. As a doula, do you have any books you recommend for my mom as a support person? I wasn’t sure if there were books geared more towards doulas learning and growing. Appreciate your help!
Thanks for making this video! My husband and I are going to start trying for our first next year 🤞 I have had the same indoor aloe plant for quite a few years now and I don't use pesticides or anything like that on it. Could I use that for padsicles instead of buying bottled versions?
I believe so .. when I was a child, I played with my neighbors kids and whenever we hurt ourselves and bled, their parents would break off a 🍃 Leaf from their aloe plant and apply it to our wounds. It was awesome!
I bought the Thayer's witch hazel with aloe vera. It has a 1:1 ratio of witch hazel: aloe vera. So I don't think I need to purchase additional aloe vera.
Unfortunately essential oils are usually expensive... so I have the one and only lavender oil for my scalp with coconut oil to prevent hair loss and thickening... for relaxation some drops inside water difuser... for my diy scrubs ... and I'll use it soon for my birth for relaxation and postpartum recovery with Epsom salt ... that's it 😍
Hi Bridget!! I just found your channel! I’m 35 weeks I’m prepping for baby you mentioned the la vie pads I don’t see them anymore any thicker ones you’ve found? Thicker than L. Pads? Thank you!!!
hi! i really enjoyed your video! super healful as i am currently 38 wks pregnant. I am saving the products you listed on Amazon and noticed you have a "Facial Toner" witch hazel, is that ok for the padcicles? or does it have to be just witch hazel, i have found both on Amazon
I've heard lavender essential oil is good during labor to help relax, but are there others and what would be their properties?? Would you just have one diffuser going off in the main room where the birth is going to happen?
Bridget Teyler could I use the actual aloe plant, like, slicing the jelly from the leaf and then liquify it with those products you’re using adding 2 tsb of water and then spray it on rather than buy aloe spray which is more expensive?
This sounds very helpful but I am a bit confused with conflicting information... I was using some witch hazel to deal with irritation down there throughout my pregnancy but my doctor told me you're not supposed to use witch-hazel down there because the skin is so sensitive. What are your thoughts on that?
I just gave birth three weeks ago and the hospital actual gave me witch hazel soaked little round pads to put on my maxi pad. Nice and cooling! The container actually says "for episiotomies and hemorrhoids"
Hmmm, that's interesting- most sources- Dr.s and research agree that witch hazel is effective for relief and healing. You just don't want to use witch hazel that has alcohol because that would definitely cause irritation and discomfort for that sensitive skin. Maybe that's what your doctor meant!
Do you have to use essential oils? Would this be okay to use if you’ve gotten stitches? & I just realized your name :) my son’s name is Teyler (I haven’t seen anyone’s name spelled that way until now) ♥️
Hey Bridget! Had my baby friday and scrambling to make some of these - the witch hazel is getting some bad reviews lastly on Amazon but wanted to check n see if you had a back up recommendation or not ?
I believe the idea behind freezing it is just the coolness of it provides additional relief. I don't believe not freezing it would impact whether or not it's safe to use.
Though it’s not the same healing properties wise, using water would also work. At the hospital I go to they make padsicles there. But they are just maternity pads made with water and frozen in the freezer. They tell you to put it into a plastic bag then wrap in paper towel. Place in underwater on top of your maternity pad you are wearing or disposable underwear(like tens, always...for bladder leakage. But they are comfy and no leaks! And disposable) basically you are adding something cooling to an area that is healing. So even a cold clean cloth might work also, sometimes we have to get creative and a bit inventive when things aren’t avaliable to purchase everywhere:)
Thanks Bridget, great idea! Just one question - putting anything frozen directly on skin can burn / attach. Should they thaw a bit first or should there be a barrier like cotton in between?
I find that the witch hazel has dried out my skin down there and now my skin feels like chapped friction in the pad . Any tips on something I can put to moisturize the area ?
I’m due mid January I’m terrified My question is in regards to risk of infection with all those products in a basically open wound area Also if I couldn’t find perineal oil for pre birth massage where I live what can I use instead? Ordering it online would take long and I would have given birth by the time it arrives
You got this, Mama! Birth is normal and safe- you're going to have a beautiful birth! As far as those products, you want to make sure you have clean hands as you're preparing the pads, but those products are actually super helpful in wound healing! Perineal massage can be done with vitamin e oil, coconut oil, or grapeseed oil!
You _could,_ but if you're not using the products then you may as well get a freezing gel pad for down there. The items discussed are to aid in pain and recovery. Water may give you freezer burn if you put too much on it and it's directly on your skin...
Can we use these on any pad liners ? Or only the one that you’ve used ? I’m worried if I can find them in short notice, because I’m due soon next week.
Fresh aloe would work great too, but I don't know how to harvest it from the leaf so that would be some research you'd have to do for yourself. But great idea!!
It's ingredients that are in our homes already, a lot of people have aloe vera plants especially if there are children in the house, the gel heals wounds like nothing else. Also with hazel is great as a tonic same as apple cider vinegar. It's just about using what you have on hand to help and heal your body quicker 😉
You can purchase a 16oz bottle of witch hazel for 2.00 at Target, same with aloe vera gel. I'm surprised people don't have these at their house. Most of the ingredients (Minus the essential oil) are cheaper options when it comes to wound care.
3 tablespoons of liquid isn't going to soak an entire La Vie (ultra absorbent) pad. Also, these aren't for absorption; they're for medical application of anti-inflammatory and pro-healing products
@@iamwhoyousayiam6773 again- what would you do for absorption then? I’ve had three babies and I’ve NEVER needed a padsicle, but I have needed actual pads every time to ABSORB blood. So if these aren’t for absorption- which you admit and I already stated in my original comment- do you just allow the blood to run down your legs?
I made these when I had my first baby and they really do still absorb well even with the witch hazel and aloe. They were most helpful the day after birth once the swelling had come up. I used dry pads straight after birth which was when bleeding was the worst. I've just made some today to prepare for my second baby 😊
Hi everyone. I’m going to be a godmother and I want to help my best friend any way that I can. Can you comment anything that helped you or that you think I can do to help her during her pregnancy and after? Thanks so much!
FYI, you can buy padcicles at a pharmacy. Also, they may not work for you at all. They felt like a special kind of torture to me. Like, first you get the ring of fire, then you sit on ice (which can burn, too.)
Thanks for sharing ur experience! I'm sorry it didn't work for you. My cousin is about to have her first baby and i'm thinking about making these for her but I might just make one bag to see if she even likes it.
I'm so angry that companies put such harmful products into our food and personal items to begin with. So unethical. I just stocked up on pads and am realizing that they're super toxic.
Hey Mama! Thanks for watching! What are you most excited about and nervous about when it comes to the postpartum period?
Most excited to meet baby and see my husband fall in love as much I do! Most nervous out pooping and being uncomfortable sitting. 😬

You can purchase a 16oz bottle of witch hazel for 2.00 at Target, same with aloe vera gel. I'm surprised people don't have these at their house. Most of the ingredients (Minus the essential oil) are cheaper options when it comes to wound care.
I don’t understand how these could possibly absorb any of the blood or lochia when they are presaturated and frozen.
Take a shot every time she says "vagina!'
Niceeee
FYI, you can buy padcicles at a pharmacy. Also, they may not work for you at all. They felt like a special kind of torture to me. Like, first you get the ring of fire, then you sit on ice (which can burn, too.)
Thanks for sharing ur experience! I'm sorry it didn't work for you. My cousin is about to have her first baby and i'm thinking about making these for her but I might just make one bag to see if she even likes it.
@@bbyzoia6958 That's so sweet of you, your cousin is lucky to have your support 💕
10 centimetres 😢😢😢
Skip to 8:30.. ..thank me later!
Thanks for gutting the ingredients/important part? Uhh....
I'm so angry that companies put such harmful products into our food and personal items to begin with. So unethical. I just stocked up on pads and am realizing that they're super toxic.
BARING MY EARS! Puhleeeease DONT talk about vaginers to Mr!
It causes lesbian dryness.
you talk too much
