  • Replacing spark plugs on a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox 2.4L. plugs used are AC Delco iridium plugs. The replacement procedure should be the same for multiple other GM vehicles ranging from 2010-2017 equipped with the 2.4L engine. Thanks for watching and enjoy the video.

Great video.. I am tired of paying so much money for someone else to do this, I'm going to change them myself. With your video I have the confidence I can do it !! Thanks

Just to add to the video....prior to disassembly....blow off the engine with compressed air to remove any debris that may fall into the oil servicing port or the spark plug holes. Also add anti size to the bolts that hold the individual caps on.

Ken Muna ya I did this way out in the country, no air compressor around but great idea 👍🏼 lol

Thank You for the video. It is a great idea to anti-seize those spark plugs (Steel plug/Aluminum head) - glad to see someone else doing that.) I always use a piece of 3/8" ID rubber hose placed over the ceramic part of the plug to thread the spark plugs in - guarantees that you will never strip the threads - then torque them down

Man, that makes me cringe like crazy to see someone using power tools to start a thread on a plug. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS start by hand first then just use a ratchet to snug them up. There is no place for power tools for this job.

I'd definitely be installing the plugs into their holes by hand.. It's not that much work.. An actual spark plug socket with an extension might help.. for removal as well.
Starting the plugs into their holes with a power tool? If I saw a shop doing that it would make me question why I would take my car there..

I just did mine on a 2014 terrain 2.4. I only have 60k miles, but I noticed a difference in smoothness of engine and felt like it had more power(noticeably). The original plugs looked like they should, but could tell the gap was way off compared to the new ones. Since these plugs don't have a washer, it's a little bit harder to get them loose, but was still easy. Anyone can do these plugs by themselves, is very easy, only need to get airbox off, can use screwdriver, a couple sockets and I small extension. No reason to pay anyone to do this, VVT solonoids are right there on left side also, 1 bolt, remove connector and replace, the VVT solenoids are very easy also. I did both and took less than 20 minutes, hardest part was getting VVT solenoids loose, after removing bolt the VVT solenoids was still hard to get out, had to use vice grips, then wiggle until came loose. Since no washer is on plugs, they take a little strength to initially loosen, then is simple. Plug # ACDelco 41-108 iridium
And currently are $7.17 each on Amazon. If you do own oil changes buy the oem filters on Amazon also, they come with new cap, filter, o ring and are ac Delco, I have found the entire pre assembled filter/cap for under $6.00 and I buy 4 each time, just filter costs a lot more local and these have new cap and o ring. I do oil changes under 6k miles, so having them on hand saves money. Being the 2.4 does better over the long term with frequent oil changes, I buy oil in 5qt jugs, usually around $19 and only full synthetic, gastrol euro gti or other good oils pens ultra platnium , etc and I add about 5oz lubeguard heavy duty, adds moly to oil. So a complete oil change costs me under $30 for oil, new filter, lubeguard.

You do not use anti seize and you DO NOT use a power drill or any other type of power tool to start a plug into a head...that's a great way to strip out a plug hole and cause yourself a thousand dollar repair by a trained mechanic and machine shop...hand tools work just fine...been a licensed mechanic now since 1984...if I would EVER see one of my guys doing this they would be down the road right then...

Thanks so much for the video! You gave me the confidence to work on my 2014 Equinox. I've only worked on cars pre 1988, so these new vehicles are super intimidating! I appreciate all the details you included! Thanks again, I just changed my spark plugs today!

Good video. Didn't know it was that easy. Saves me a bunch of money. Thanks. Youre brave, I feel, for using a power tool to install the plugs.

I didn't need to disconnect the harness from the coils. Just remove the bolt, pop the coil off, and set it up out of the way. And while you're there, depending on the age/year/mileage, if they've never been changed it's a good idea to swap out the VVT solenoids. It's not uncommon for them to need to be changed, and they're right there on top-easy to do.

    • @rotwiler7674

Agree, no need to remove harness, I just did my plugs. I also did the vvt's, vvt was harder to get out, they are snug in there due to o ring, had to wiggle back and forth until they finally came out.

You dont gap iridium plugs. You dont use anti-seize on certain coated plugs.(it causes over torquing 25% because of the lubrication) Dont use dialectric grease on silicone rubber orings (it will melt certain ones) Cover the throttle body (clean it while youre there) Cover oil fill hole. Stop using that stupid drill and buy an impact lol.

You saw everything I saw John...this was a great shade tree mechanic video...in my shop that guy would be now looking for another place of employment...I don't tolerate second rate...LOL!

And NO drill or impact would be the right way...hand tools give you the feel...torque specs to manufacture specifications only...my business has relied on repeat customers and good reviews for the past 21 yrs...

So what do you do if the plugs aren't gapped to .035 straight out of the box? Do you install plugs that are not gapped to the manufacture spec or do you gap them to what they are supposed to be?

    • @trucker86a
      @trucker86a 4 года назад +2

@@alexllamas7634 I always double check the gap out of the box. In this case if it wasn't gapped correctly I would fo it before installing

Please, if you are replacing your spark plugs for the first time DO NOT USE POWER TOOLS TO REMOVE/INSTALL THEM. The wrong move and the glass could break, and you will be in a lot of trouble.

Thanks for the video. Just FYI, when you use a drill, it will strip the nut. When but stripped/break, so hard to remove.

Popo Kiai the cordless drill is my fav but I use a DeWalt that has different settings, speeds. so it doesn’t strip bolts or snaps them. It will disengage the drill till you stop. So pretty cool. Thanks

Don't forget to replace the oil cap after removing it while changing the coils

  • @docohm50

Do put your oil cap back on and put a rag gently inside your throttle body before removing coil packs to prevent dropping anything into your engine.

I was told .035 by someone and another person said .040.

Never never never ever put anti-seize on a spark plug. First, if it touches the electrode it will short out. Second, it will make the plugs harder to replace in the future.

Ac Delco 41-108, they are $6.63 each on Amazon. I compared numbers on side of plug to my oem originals in the Terrain and are same exact plugs.
