They’re leaning into their villain arc
it is actually the same pinkerton company, not even just an unrelated one using the name. the original company was bought out by a large security firm in 1999 and merged with another rival PI corp (also super old, this one formed in 1910) to form the US division of that firm. they still retained the name and presumably the staff and organisation, so it is still a direct continuation
they even have an updated Eye logo!
If you haven't stopped giving WotC money now's a good time to.
They should start giving financial advice so that I know what not to do.
Wotc's ability to always make the worst possible decision lately is downright impressive.
Remember the time Apple had the FBI raid a tech blogger's house because he found a prototype iPhone and after months of Apple refusing to listen to him to take it back he decided to take it apart and blog about it?
Even that seems less insane than getting the Pinkertons
WotC is twirling their mustache and laughing maniacally while tying a damsel to some railroad tracks right about now.
I really feel like I'm in an RPG campaign that the GM said was going to be Grimdark and have a serious tone, but they keep throwing cartoonishly cliche villains at us.
WotC as a company is dead for me now. I’ll buy no products from it and I’ll pretend it doesn’t even exist.
Cosplay opportunity unlocked: Pinkerton Agent with WotC badge
One of the C-suite at Hasbro apparently used to work for them.
Lawful Evil Corp
Except what they were doing wasn't even lawful - Pinkerton is a private security firm, not a law enforcement agency. They have NO legal authority. If their thugs step across the threshold of your home without consent, they're breaking the law. And that becomes even worse in castle doctrine states...
What they did might have been illegal.
@Carter Gabriel I used to work for a company that would hire them to get back proprietary tech they do it by the book. They likely waited for the guy to leave and ambushed is wife saying your husband has stolen property and COULD be charged with a crime and got consent to take the stuff then wizards talked him into taking down all the videos that's where he messed up he did videos on it but I could be wrong
It's the same Pinkertons of the Homestead steel mill jebus....had family in that strike. WotC isn't getting my money anymore.
And Blair Mountain, and... I mean we could go on for ages about the abuses and human rights violations the Pinkertons have been involved with.
There is no way that the person who hired the Pinktertons did not know how the community is going to react. Several months of evil and acts of villainy.. and then they hire the PINKTERTONS to swoop in and attack (because we know this was not friendly) a man who got something because of THEIR mistake at the company. This has got to be a pretty hefty nail that is coming for the coffin that is their company. Whats next? Breaking the kneecaps and hands of streamers that criticize the company?
Well clearly, with Critical Role announcing that they are developing their own RPGs (2 of them), Matt Mercer et al, should consider hiring bodyguards. WotC might put a series of hits out on everyone in that crew.
It's even worse than that. It appears that WotC tried to use the fact that Hasbro has the Pinkertons ON RETAINER as an excuse for why they were used.
That makes it worse.
You know that makes it worse, right, WotC?
You know having one of the most infamous, union-busting, strong-arming detective agencies/security firms in US history on retainer MAKES IT WORSE, RIGHT?!?
I guess now we know why WotC doesn't have a union.
This whole situation is cartoonishly bad. I'm laughing in hysterical disbelief just like Stephen. Full on hands to head, "What the fHAHAHAck?!?"
Given the rollcall of evil SoB's who have used The Pinkertons? Says a lot about WotC/Hasbro.
I believe Hasbro had worked with them previously
@@CC-gy7el Their director of security is a former Pinkerton employee.
Personally I’d like to know how this is legal. Usually companies use lawyers for this and it could have been resolved with WoTC looking like a “fair” company. But to use “mob style” tactics….. I will (ironically) will be telling and showing this vid to my DnD group Wednesday. And see if they are willing to swap to pathfinder. And I’m willing to GM it personally with Piazo products. And if you have read this much of my thoughts plz do the same. This is proof of how untrustworthy WoTC is.
It is ironic that the same agency that is in Red Dead Redemption 2, is the same agency sent after this leaker.
The memes write themselves, and you cannot make this stuff up. 😂😂😂
The person wasn't even an intentional leaker, he just bought some Magic cards online and got sent unreleased cards.
that's a coincidence not irony
If a Content Creator unknowingly breaks street date, that's on the people who sent the product. Send the Pinkertons after the distributor who sent the cards.
What's next? Texas Rangers? "I opened some cards on the air. Oh gawdz! Is that Chuck Norris?" 🤣😋🙃🤪
Hasbro WotC is such a shitshow... it's a comedic villan in a bad 70s or 80s Saturday morning cartoon. I pretty much took my toys and left dropping everything Hasbro WotC at this point. There are other better creators and companies producing the games I want to play, that respect my time, money and sanity. I'm certainly not buying into D&D VTT lr anything going forward the Hasbro suits and shareholders can kick rocks, I'll be over at the OSR table if the Pinkertons come looking for me 😆
my friends and I have lost what little hope we had for this company.
we're already looking into other TCG's.
I thought this was a bad joke when I first heard it too. Then a buddy of mine sent me the news article.
The head of risk management at WOTC worked for the Pinkertons for 6 years.
Wow.
Just.
Fucking.
Wow.
Looking forward to Grand Wizards of the Coast next source book Adventures On Teen Island by guest writer Ghislaine Maxwell... 🤦🏻♂️
This is some 1800s old-west movie villain shit.
Next thing they do is send a few mercenaries to rough up some Paizo executives.
Someone better watch out that none of the Critical Role cast goes missing.
Just imagine some dudes in suits and tophats on your frontyard, one of them smoking a cigar, whispering into your ear: "ye done messed wit the wrooong Wizards, boy."
i was ready to put the ogl thing in the past after the dramatic walk back, but this is above and beyond. the dude did nothing wrong. wizards, or one of their distributors, just sent him the wrong product, then sent a literal private military contractor with a long history of doing murders for corporate interest to threaten this guys family. just beyond the fucking pale.
I will reserve judgement until more information comes out. If this was a slightly heavy handed 'we made a mistake and would really appreciate your help fixing it' and they have or will make him whole with more left over, then this was just bad press. If there were indeed threats of baseless criminal charges, then this is extortion. If there was anything more heavy-handed than that, then this is outright theft.
And yes, using THE PINKERTONS to do this, when you KNOW it's going to be all over the internet, was a Grade A stupid move.
As a pittburgh native. What, and what the fuck lmao. This shit started at pitt? WHAT? LMAO
And to clarify, its terrible that a company making money off of cardboard is doing this type of shit instead of improving their products?
Let's be honest, since most millennials don't know history, whoever made this decision literally is clueless about the Pinkertons.
I wont be buying Hasboro products ever again!
Pinkertons are what Orcs call humans I think (the European looking ones at least)
So Pinkertons started in the Civil War. When McClellan was fighting the 7 Days battle. Pinkerton was telling McClellan that the Rebs had 3X the men he had when it was McClellan that had 3X the men. And if McClellan got the amount that Pinkerton told him the rebs had, Pinkerton would come back and say. No, they now have 4X the men you have. Pinkerton is a JOKE!
That's why a little later on the Union stopped using them as spies and intel analysts and started using military personnel. The Pinkertons , being civilians, didn't have a clue. After the Union stopped using them, their success in the war took a turn for the better.
Pinkertons ate the same group as they always have been. You employ them for a reason.
Are you grossly incompetent? In possession of that reverse Midas touch, where everything you touch just turns to shit? WotC would like to talk to you about an exciting opportunity in their PR department. Apply today.
It's so fun: you consider the Pinkertons as someone to do "roughing up", but over here the Pinkertons are known as a private detective agency - i.e., Poirots and S. Holmeses. :-)
Because the Pinkerton's are famous for doing horrible things in the United states going back over a century. Their job was literally breaking into people's houses, threatening and assaulting them, etc.
The Pinkertons have done legitimate private detective work, but they also have done, and still do, mercenary work, bounty hunting, intimidation, security, and probably assassination work. They are nefarious and notorious. They are the text book definition of hired guns.
@@dhavaram8064 Knock knock
"Who is it?"
"Hired goons"
WotC can not be trusted at all
