From my experience w/Harkey Progas and Topfuel (back in 90's with B&M Cycles & Emory Racing). . Riding the bike is like driving a riding mower on a hill. You lean off it to keep it going straight Everything happens in slow motion as your riding and grunting to hold on.. It's when you hit the shutdown. That rear tire starts folding and buckling. That it gets hairy. I never road one that the rear brakes where worth a dam. Most of the braking was done with the front brake. They are beast to ride.
Went to Sonoma for the drags last weekend, enjoyed the Pro Stock bikes, but I want NITRO!!!!....Did not get a chance to talk to anyone from NHRA about the possibility of including top fuel bikes in the future, all we can do is hope it works out soon.
Jack, sometime you should do a walkthrough video with these guys and have them explain what the switches they're flipping do during the burnout and right before they stage. I see they flip one on the right side and one or two on the left side.
Is Jimmy putting together his own “team”? Would think he’d have his own crew and equipment there as well, to garner experience and familiarity from McBrides. Way steep learning curve in this, but, all seem to be doing a incredible job. Expect there’s some takeaways for Larry and Steve for the different perspective, and expect greater things of them, for the experience.
The decline in motorsports and specifically motorcycles starts on the road, the whole industry is hurting. Kids dont want to ride. A large portion of students at the college where I work dont even have drivers licenses. The fear of driving in a car is overwhelming to many of these kids, getting on a motorcycle is just a hard no for them. Even some of the kids that are happy going to the mall and racing the electric kart cars are too timid to drive on the road.
He's right,, many of the younger generation aren't driving,, mostly because of the cost. We elders don't understand,, we didn't have the money back in the 60's either but weekday we turned 16 we were at the DMV getting our drivers license! We wanted the FREEDOM a drivers license gave us. We hated it but borrowed Mom's car until we owned one of our own which took only a few months working at the local gas station, grocery or hardware store. There were no fast food restaurants in the small of America in the early to mid 1960's so that wasn't an option. Key thing here is this,, we wanted to drive and we found a way to do that!!
With the price of motocross bikes,kids can’t afford the cost. They would rather buy a car so they can motor around with their buddies. Not only that but many teens are afraid they may have to apply a band aid to a scratch.
Wow!! Jimmy's one 'driven' and brave soul to be willing to, after 16 years away from the sport, toss a leg over the bodywork of that monster, put tha boots to it and RIDE IT! Wow! Also wanna mention it does a body good to see most of the crew wearing hearing and lung protection when working around the running motorcycle. Hopefully more will ignore what it looks like and protect the only IRREPLACABLE eardrums and lungs GOD gave them by following suit. Eyes and ears are worth protecting,, they cannot be bought in a medical facility no matter how much money someone may have access to. Thank you Jack!

It was built for Jimmy's comeback to the sport by Steve & Larry, so not Larry's bike, but it's still a 5 second manchine. With Larry, Dave (Vantine) and Jimmy on these machines, they're keeping the sport alive. Enjoy the moment!
