During the call, the two leaders engage on discussions in further strengthening relations between their countries, as well as the establishment of a Loss and Damage Fund to address the adverse impacts of climate change.
Acknowledging the sizable Filipino community in the Marshall Islands and the significant contributions of Filipino healthcare professionals in any place around the world, President Marcos Jr. and President Heine discuss training opportunities and student exchanges. The Chief Executive extends an invitation for Marshallese students to undergo specialized training in the Philippines.
Further on enhancing people-to-people linkages and ensuring the welfare of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), the two leaders talk about establishing sister-city relationships between cities in the Philippines and Marshall Islands.
On agriculture and fisheries, they also touch on plans to boost production in copra, coconut and seaweed farming to cater to global market demands.
Moreover, President Marcos Jr. and President Heine discuss the significance of the Pacific Cooperation and the Philippines’ candidature for the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) as these underscore the commitment of both nations to foster robust diplomatic ties and collaborate on key regional and international issues.
The Philippines and Marshall Islands celebrated 35 years of diplomatic relations in September 2023.
