The original black XS was my favourite fragrance to date with in my college years. Better than a wingman.
When I was 15, I went to Europe on a summer school trip in 2006. We were in Verona, Italy exploring the city. We stumbled on a fragrance store and decided to stop in. I don't know what inspired me to pick up this scent, but I was enthralled with Black XS. I knew I had to have it.
This scent is representative of my coming of age and a nostalgic reminder of my trip across the globe. Every Christmas while I was in high school, my mom would buy this for me and I was just as excited to get it then as I was when I first bought it.
Two years ago I bought the reformulated scent. The first whiff took me back, as I hadn't smelled it in over 6 years. I'll never remember what the original scent was like, but it's a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Wearing it still gets me compliments and transports me back to Verona when I was 15. I'm happy they brought it back, all formula changes aside.

Ah man, I want to smell the new bottle as I loved the original but I will be upset if it doesn't smell similar enough :(
My Dad used to have the original one and the smell is very memorable for me because it’s the perfume he used when he came back from abroad back when I was a kid

What did you go for ?
I Smelt the Original Formula back in like 2017 and my 12 year old self Loved it INSTANTLY. Stuff was Absolutely nuclear on my clothes after testing it, haven't smelt it for 5 years but I STILL want it. I think that shows how good the old one was.
Just found out about this :( Now I have to stock up on the original formula as I really love it. Thanks for the review!

Man I loved the original. So gutted they don't make it anymore / its difficult to come across / expensive. Wonder if there is a clone for it ?
I tried the new one in a mall and it wasnt that bad or different as everyone says. The new one may also be more suitable for the summer or warm weather.

What is the batch code of your old version?
I wonder why they even reformulate something that was nearly perfect. Yeah, they smell similar (not same for sure) but I'm not sure if newer version was first one that many people would fall in love with it. Newer one has less unique smell, lasts less.
Yeah, it’s a carrying shame, but sometimes they have to reformulate fragrances for legal reasons. E.g. They find out a certain aromachemical used causes rashes in some users, etc. In other cases they do it to cut costs.
@@AussieMarcel yeah man, it's a shame, Black XS was one of those you don't think twice when you buy it - you can't go wrong. I still have original bottle somewhere around the house (without the cap) and it still smells the same. I remember "old" version being more "oily" than this one, hard to get it off the skin or clothes.
i compared them the other day & the new one definitely has much more of a fizzy opening compared to the OG's more sharp impact. i do have some issues with longevity on the original though, but that's an issue with most fragrances on my skin
I love 2005 version, its for me something magic
I still love them but I'm pretty sure they're not as good as they used to be anymore (and I always buy the "old" zippo lighter version). They're not as intensive as they were back in the day and either I always happened to buy (not on purpose) fake ones or the fragrance never lasted long, Hell, nowadays even bold fake weird named bottles smell better sometimes and last longer for some reason. That's why I pursue the perfect alternative I still haven't found yet.
Recently heard Davidoff Zino is pretty close while the ingredients aren't exactly the same (and I hate sandalwood scent whether it's a perfume or some essential oils and home refreshers. In general avoid typical funeral/casket fragrances - wood/root if you will. I'm a semi-sweet/sweet wine fan and despise dry/semi dry if you get an idea. To me XS Is defo a sweet wine style fragrance.
In general I I can confirm there are strawberries in it (XS) even though they won't say there's such scent. Or coke? Haven't thought about that, sounds valid tho. Wish Black XS was a perfume, not eau de toilette. Basically I find perfumes and toilet waters pretty rare ish and interesting in terms of tolu balm and kalamansi lemon. I think those are what makes XS great and unique.
Thanks for letting me know. I love the original. Because of the strawberry smell. Since you say the strawberry smell is weak on the new one. I won't get the new one.
What year's batch do you have?? How does it perform ??
@@sotiris6116 mines is before it got reformulated. It doesn't have the year on the Bottle. But the smell is good. Unless someone is near you on a hot day. Then they can smell it on you. The smell stays on your clothes forever. But on the skin it doesn't perform for long.
I was looking for the original and unfortunately can't find it. I wish Paco Rabanne would go back to the old formulation. The new one is weak.
Any idea when your older bottle was made? I could get a 2010 if I wanted to.
Good morning and happy Easter. I just checked the batch number, it’s a little worn out, so I can’t make out if it’s 21240 (released in 2012) or 71240 (released in 2017).

One of those cases where it’s popular for good reason. Although when I was younger and purchased this I thought it was going to be a much darker fragrance given the name, haha.

That one is my absolute fav but it’s discontinued. IMO, it’s way superior to the original Black XS. The pineapple note is just damn beautiful! They need to bring it back
Just cracked open a box of the new xs I didn't even know I had. The velvet box caught me off guard. I wouldn't know the difference because I love this so called new formula that's sweet, creamy and a bit citrus. Now I gotta go hunt for the original 🙁
Edit: Just found it online for $50 in the tall bottle. That should be the old formula. Glad I saw this vid 👍🏿✌🏿

Batch codes are reused every 10 years, that i have heard. I have also a old bottle, made in Spain and batch code says 2020 something.

You can still find the older bottles on eBay but they can be pretty pricey, unfortunately.

They totally ruined a great parfume.
Because your nose adjusts to the smell,it's with every fragrance.This is also cold weather fragrance so anything above 20 degree C will ruin performance.How to test lasting?Get sample in store,bring the paper home,place it on coffee or PC table and leave it throughout the day(make sure it's right season,cold weather isn't same as warm one).Than check from time to time if you smell the sample projecting scent from distance of 1m or so,if yes that's what people around you would smell.It's only way to test,def never blind buy or first impression buy,that don't mean anything.
Just bought the old black xs, and just wondering have many sprays would typically use so it’s still out there but not over bearing?
Two sprays is fine. One on the left side of the neck and one on the right.
I use 4 to 6 sprays and it works well

So you could have the old bottle, but it would still be pisswater inside, making it literally impossible to know whether you got the nice old scent or the shit new one cos the bottles were identical.
Best advice, hit up discount stores. They’ll likely have the closest thing to the og scent. Dont fully trust ebay as its literally 50/50 with no gurantee you’ll get the og scent. People are charging hundreds yet whats in the bottle isnt actually the original scent. You’ll basicly be wasting your money on dog urine. Discounts stores are the way to go.
So does the longer bottle thats procuded today, still has the same formula as back in 2005?
The new Black XS does not have the original formulation. If you manage to find the longer bottle from about 2012 onwards that was a reformulation to, up until they stopped producing it in 2018 (and then gave it a complete redesign).
So is there any other perfume that comes close to the 2005 XS? I read something abouy Himalaya but those are very pricy

90% similar. The missing ten percent is in the praline and strawberry notes that’ve lost potency.

Not guranteed. The rubbish piss water reformulated also comes in the old bottles, fooling potential customers. Before they reformulated it again in their new bottle design, they still put the crap in the old bottles.

Which formulation? The original can still be found in certain stores and eBay, if you’re lucky and don’t mind paying a premium, although the newer formulation is readily available at almost all retailers that stock designer fragrances.

They're decently priced on European eBay. 50 to 80€. I thinkhink they'll ship to you! Give this frag a shot it's unique honestly
Priceline is ripoff along with Myer,D.Jones etc...Buy online from private sellers in Aust,just check batch code,to be original and maybe test it on the spot if still unsure,got mine for 50$.Be careful though,there are a lot of fakes out there so best is to try it in store and than from private seller.I always buy online,never had problems so far.
i just got a bottle of the original tall version with the rose on it from fragranceX, cost me twice what the new bottle would but after hearing good things about the original i wanted to get it. i looked up the manufacture date and it says april 2022 so either i got a fake bottle with a fake batch code or they are still making it in the original bottle?

The older formulation of Black XS is still a great performer. It’s far and away the better scent of the two.
They reformulated it more than once. Even if you get the old bottle you might still get duped and get the rubbish liquid that came even before the new bottles even worse reformulation. If you get the og 2005 to say 2018 scent. Thats what youre after. But Tbh though its a blind risk regardless because the bottle may be the old one, but whats inside may not be what should be inside. Theres no certified way of knowing unfortunately. I’ve found that the discount stores have the closest thing to the og fragrance. Ebay too sometimes. But ebay can be super dodgy and sell you the right bottle, but the shit scent. Discount stores are the way to go.

Have you ever found anything similar? I honestly think the new one is terrible compared to the old one! Very disappointing. EBay no longer sell the old formulation. The old style bottle now also put the reformulation in so the only way to tell before you buy is to ask for the batch number. The thing that gives me the similar vibes of sweetness and luxury smell is invictus victory exlixir by paco rabanne

Always the same story about old formulations vs new. Just bought the new one for 50 bucks, how bad can it be when 2 young attractive ladies on You Tube were blown away by the new one. One said it smelled liked something a rock star would wear.

If you want something as old version of Black XS buy 1 Million Perfume.It's basically same thing(strawberry smell,spicy,lasts long,also worn in cold weather).AVOID reformulated Black XS!Longevity is just terrible,it's def watered down version with approx 1/3 of the strength of original!Also never buy perfumes based on first impressions and wear it not on skin but spray up to 4 pumps inside of clothes,lasts far longer,doesn't mix with body sweat,stays on as intended.Why inside of clothes?Some fragrances leave stains(especially autumn/winter ones).
They dont smell even remotely the same. But 1million is amazing. The best cologne next to the original black xs. The new black xs is basicly expired pisswater… and thats even insulting to the pisswater lol.
