We largely lived off the land on this adventure relying on wild Brook Trout for the majority of our food.

Haha. This is my territory. I used to fly fish. A few things the same and a few differences. I have so many questions. 2 many for here. Absolutely loved this Ted. My trophy fish. 7 pound brown trout I stalked in the Cass river top of Lake Tekapo. Shot a few bunnies along the way also. ❤

I just rewatched some of Jim's videos of that trip. Just getting myself pumped for when we go to Algonquin next year.
Awesome. Ya man I was reliving it wanting to get back when putting this together. The 1st one I put out was almost 2.5 hrs so I figured a highlight reel of only fishing and cookin would be cool. Made me wanna be out chasing trout again.
So love the night wild life critters call of the wild to mate & warn others of danger. So much nicer then the city noise. Epic catch on the fish. Yep seems fishing is always best at night, though much nicer this time of year then the summer when bugs are out. Nice seeing the 3 of you out having fun!! Rainbow trout I love, not sure I've had speckled trout or not yet.
Hey Jude I couldn't agree more. I'm happy you enjoyed it and yes its amazing whith no bugs! We had a blast and if u like Rainbow Trout you would definitely love speckled trout. They are beautiful with no scales at all very yummy indeed

In our small region, within a radius of 200 km we have mountains of 2600 m, hills, plains and sandy beaches but also pebbles where the coast is high. It's a beautiful world. Hey Sally! Yes so fun. If you enjoy eating fish its a great way to travel lighter also and feels amazing living off the land like that its a good skill to learn...Its not always fun but def is when your catching and its also an amazing excuse to get out and explore more to see what fish might be here or there so to speak. We caught a 4lb one in Labrador on the scale that looked smaller but very similar in lots of compared pics so I cant get away with claiming anything 2 ridiculous Shawn and Jim won't let me get away with that. So its intierly possible it was 3.5 but let's not let the facts get in the way if a good story Lol. What a blast we had

Yes only one fillet Next time we will try to cook them up a few different ways The trip was very challenging so at the end of the day we ended up just frying most as we were tires lol. Also the small brook trout cook perfect just gutted so no meat wasted no need to fillet those. Have a great weekend

Hey Karen. Thats good to know glad you enjoyed it. I agree about the skin but with Brook trout I don't mind is since there are no scales and its very soft and once you cook it if you don't want it you can simply lift it off the meat much easier than removing before cooking. Buck the dog loves when we decided not to eat the skin cause he got it lol. We should have done some filets regardless we actually wanted to smoke some but the trip was very physically demanding we were pretty exhausted each day and never got around to it lol. Next time I will cook a few different ways. Thanks for watching Take care

Hey Yes I posted a full 2.5 hr video on this trip a while back but this time I condensed all the fishing and cooking into a highlight reel and added some footage not included in the original. I felt that the fishin was pretty epic so wanted to share a much shorter version just centered on catch and cookin trout. Glad you enjoyed the dif style. Thanks for your thoughts.

Ted, thanks for the input. How easy or hard would it be to get a lot in Canada? Or Oregon for that matter. I missed a good deal to get a pickup truck with camper. I am thinking this way as well. At 60, I am 'done' with apartment life? Do you know what I mean? Thanks! Randy
Ya I hear ya. I would imagine it would be pretty easy to get a lot here. Some places are much cheaper and are also very beautiful depending on where you buy. If your not a Canadian citizen you may have to return to the USA for part of the year however
Would you recommend Southern Canada in any Province for just a lot? Weather much rougher up north, I mean much closer to Northern borders of Canadian Provinces -- but maybe better chances and cheaper? Thank you! Randy
Hey If you go west to BC you can avoid the harsh winter But yes you can get a lot in Southern Ontario Depending on where you are it can get pricy but the further north you go the more wild and cheaper. you can also get some great deals out east. It really depends what you wants and needs are

Was a swift keewayden 15 it was great for this trip very fast and light. It is tippy in some situations and you have to get out of the side not the bow wether you like it or not it does not turn well but for this style of trip it was excellent id love to own one

Yes we do often eat it all. The brain is probably the most delicious. Also sometimes we give it to the dog also.
