Fishing the GT Capital: Giant Trevally Adventure in Cosmoledo Atoll

- It’s almost become a tradition to travel to Seychelles and its outer atolls with the Alphonse Fishing Company once a year.
This time, we had a blast fishing the wild COSMOLEDO atoll, known as the GT capital of the world. Already, the first day of fishing blew our minds. “Gets” were everywhere, and there were lots of them. The actual power tests for our tackle were the brutal fly eats, broken fly lines, screaming reels, and solid bent rods. We had pretty similar “full action” fishing for other species throughout the week while hunting GTs.
Our COSMO trip was just on fire!

I know this is extremely late, but I felt like I need to comment this...
I honestly feel like I'm in a fever dream with fly fishing in saltwater right now! All it took was one comment by an avid fly fisherman on youtuber, and I dove deep into researching the effectiveness of saltwater fly fishing, and I've been blown away ever since! Already bought my fly rod and reel and a set of saltwater flies, but every video, just like this, pumps me up even more! Can't wait to get out there with my flies and catch the best fish of my life!
Also, I would love to visit a place like this someday! Keep up the good work!

Beautiful place with incredible fish, would love to go there and fish without a guide.
A guided fish hasn't been caught by the angler, the anglers here only wound the fish in and as much as a fantastic experience that would be it doesn't even come close to actually finding the fish and fishing for them without someone putting you on them, telling you when and where to cast and even set the hook.

Excellent video chaps…what reel do you recommend for the big GTs?
Thanks, man! You need a good reel. We used Loop reels at that time and managed to land a big fish, but if we had a Mako, it would have been much more comfortable. So I would say, choose the reel depending on your budget.😉

We used #11 and #12 Loop Cross rods with floating and slow intermediate lines for GTs in this trip 😉

But every type of fishing is different and has its own experience and excitement. You can have brutal fights with a huge GT’s and after small rising grayling still keeps your blud pumping almost the same way😉

Hello, I'm going there for my honeymoon, but we don't have much money. I have a question whether I would be able to catch anything there on my own (I mean larger fish). Do I need money for a boat, a guide, etc.? Can I, for example, rent a kayak and fish, or maybe go into the water a few meters from the shore and catch something? :) Can I ask for some tips on which island will be best for fishing (I have a fly rod and a spinning rod) Thank you for your answer and best regards.
Hello, I don't think you can get to Cosmoledo Island on your own. You need to contact the organizers, Alphonse Fishing Company, but it will be expensive. I don't have much information on whether it's possible to catch big GTs on your own in other Seychelles islands. Perhaps someone else has more experience with this?
