What a ride ‘23-‘24 was! So many hockey “experts” were saying the Panthers would probably have a let down hangover year after overachieving and making the Stanley Cup finals the previous season. How wrong they ALL were! Love them Cats!
Game 7. Forsling tying up McDavid’s stick with the puck laying feet in front of a wide open net. That defensive play by the most underrated d-man in the league could’ve very well been the Stanley Cup. Thank God the best GM in hockey had the foresight to sign Gus to a max extension earlier in the season, for only 5.75M. Gus makes it to FA, he’s probably getting 9M+. Or if Zito waited any longer, he probably would’ve have to pay another 1-2M+.
God I hope Bennett is willing to follow in his teammates footsteps and take a discount to re-sign long term. Same with Ekblad, but he’ll have to take a pay cut I’d think, to make room for Benny. Hopefully Zito can work his magic. Maybe give Ekblad 8 yrs to lower the AAV.
