    For maybe the last six years, my main daily writer has been a Lamy 2000 EF that I have only ever used exclusively with Platinum Carbon Black. It's had about ten bottles through it at this point. I think I've cleaned it twice. This is easily my favorite ink. It's just so good.

    Not everyone has the confidence to ramble like this. Lovely and entertaining.

      I agree. I routinely abandon videos with rambling, but this rambling was on the subject at hand, and that makes all the difference for me. Quite enjoyable and even instructive. Though I imagine many neatniks (I'm not one) will be aghast.

    I use platinum preppy with this carbon ink for the last like 5 months. I have not cleaned the pen at all just refill ink when needed and it consistently continues to work/write or draw. I’ve however also had it unused for a full week and again still works. I love it!! Great ink!

    Thanks for long term ink review. I've considered using platinum carbon for it's relative water resistance for doing watercolor. But was hesitant because I wondered how it would over the long term. But seems if you use it regularly and take some care it's fine. I use my fountain pen daily so looks like I'd be fine👍 always enjoy your artwork, reviews, and method of expression 😊

      Noodler's Bulletproof Black and Noodler's X-Feather Black are my go-tos. Same water (and alcohol or bleach) resistance but without the carbon particles to clog things up. Give them a go if you get the chance (X-Feather takes longer to dry as it is a bit thicker but pretty identical otherwise).

      I’ve been pleasantly surprised by both Platinum carbon ink and how long my cheap Dryden pen has kept functioning after about two years of using it exclusively. The Dryden nib and feed cannot be dismantled for deep cleaning (as far as I know anyway- but maybe I wasn’t using enough force). I wasn’t going to bother cleaning it thoroughly but lost my nerve after I had it a year. So I just soaked it in tap water a few months ago, even though it wasn’t noticeably clogged. Sadly after that the converter plunger didn’t form a tight seal, but the pen itself is holding up well. If I do it again I’ll be sure to use distilled water, but honestly for the price it doesn’t owe me anything. So if your pen nib and feed can be dismantled fully for cleaning I wouldn’t worry about clogging.

    I was on the fence about buying this ink, because of the properties of the ink. Since it does have bits of carbon particles in it to dry, giving it its more permanent nature when applied to paper. But this has definitely convinced me that the ink will be suitable for one of my drawing pens. Thanks a bunch for making this video

    I am looking for a relatively cheap fountain pen, did this come with a converter? I want to get into ink & watercolor. Love your ink drawings! Do you have a link for the pen?

      They come with a converter.

    This happens with most my fountain pen inks if not used for a while. Though the Platinum pens with the slip and seal feature, I can leave unused for months and it'll not dry out.

    There is a pen that does use normal india ink called the "indiagraph" its pretty pricey but it seems to just was a small water reservoir in the pen cap maybe you would just have the cap damp

    The same thing has happened to me with the threads, but I wasn't being violent. I have 10 or 12 of these pens and it has happened to two of them. Pretty great pen though. I keep them inked with different colors. I have yet to buy my first bottle of carbon ink. I do a lot of line and wash and always use India ink in a technical pen or a dip pen. I want to use a fountain pen. My line work is very different with a fountain pen.
    Thanks for the video.

    Would you ever consider doing a side by side comparison with an official Lamy? I’d go down the route of buying you said pen if so!

      I have often considered it so thank you for your kind and generous offer. If you gave me the money through Ko-fi ( link in channel banner)
      I would end up buying the pen, as buying pens I don't need are one of my few vices. But I must warn you that it would not guarantee a comparison video any time soon.... or possibly ever. I just don't want someone to give me a nice pen under some false premise or something.
      Have a nice day.

    I do not know where all of these cheap pens are! By the time shipping is included, or you need to purchase X dollars to get free shipping you are spending $$. I live in a rural area, and the cheapest pen I've been able to find for testing permanent inks is a $13 Manuscript beginner's calligraphy pen (cheaply made). I probably shouldn't try my Pilot Falcon with the soft fine nib. Every ink I have used in the Falcon pen comes out with a spidery line. It currently has Noodler's Lexington grey. I think I'll just run purple Sheaffer ink in it and forget about trying to sketch with it before watercolor. So far, my best behaving sketchers are a no name promotional fountain pen with the iridium point Germany nib marking, and the Pilot Metropolitan that I overpaid for at the office supply store in another town. By the way, love your sketches!

    Curious have you tried the platinum carbon ink long term in the Lamy look-a-like brush pen?

    • @Ashsibe
      @Ashsibe  2 года назад

      Not with the platinum ink. I have a cheap brush pen which has a rubber seal on the screw on pen cap, so it never dries out, and I put a Sumi ink wash in it. Sumi ink is one of those lamp/vegetable soot inks that have much larger particles in it compared to the Platinum ink. But I still have left it alone for many months at a time and it still works fine. But I also have Lamy look-a-like brush pen without the screw on rubber seal pen cap and that tends to dry out due to infrequent use. I don't remember the ink flow out of it being that great. I also don't think I answered your question.... it was a good attempt...

    Your pen hygeine is bad that's why its clogged and that is the reason for bad ink flow. Loved your rambling though.

  • @mellow-jello

    With a pricey ink like PCB, just put it in a Preppy, ink it as needed, and clean regularly. Don't see the point of involving Jinhao, since it has no Slip N Seal equivalent.

    If you're too cheap to spend 20 bucks on a Lamy Safari instead of getting a blatant chinese rip off, fountain pens might not be the hobby for you.

    • @Suiseisexy
      @Suiseisexy Год назад

      sir, the Jinhao 999 is literally a better pen than the Safari. probably because LAMY stopped trying in 199x like every other pre-2000's company that isn't in asia because there's virtually no money on doing anything outside of asia. this will change when there's a world war and the new center is decided, welcome to earth.

      Not everything needs to be a whole expensive hobby. Sometimes spending loads of money on stuff makes me too precious with it and it goes unnused.

    U write so little. It can write because u just fill the nib with ink. U should write a longer line and see with out just a bit ink in nib, it still writing with ink from the converter or stuck because cabon ink dry to cabin inside nib, feed or something.

    • @Ashsibe
      @Ashsibe  2 года назад +2

      That's a good point. I do edit a fare amount of scribble out of these videos so it's often hard to tell how much ink I've used. In this case maybe it wasn't enough for the demonstration. But after I made this video I continued writing with it for a long time and the ink flow started to feel even more reliable.
