@@brianabanana1087 oh my god yeah! Everyone was literally standing for almost the entire song it was electric. Me and like everyone in my section was sobbing.
Ginna Claire Mason, the current Glinda, did a virtual workshop for my college theater department a year ago and when asked what she was most looking forward to, she said this. Saying "It's good to see me, isn't it!" She knew it would bring the house down.
She taught an audition masterclass at my Civic theater when she was in town on tour, too! Such a lovely woman. As part of the class we got tickets to see the show, and she told us that when she came out on stage and said the line, we should all shout super loud so she'd know where we were sitting 😊
Ben Platt was on The View today, and he said it was the most amazing theater experience he'd ever witnessed. Probably the longest run time for Wicked because there were so many long breakouts of thunderous applause.
I was also in the audience that night, and I've never experienced a more happy, excited, ecstatic, joyous, attentive audience in my life. Everyone was in tears at the end and it was truly one of the most beautiful, memorable, amazing experiences in my life.
I saw Wicked 15 years ago when it first came to broadway -and I was lucky enough to see the show with the original broadway cast including Idina and Kristin and it was just AMAZING. Happy Broadway is back
Just randomly watched it again-got my crying. Sometimes you see a moment of human interaction no matter how big or small, and it just makes you love to be human. Thank you humans for loving one another and keeping broadway a safe space for love and compassion.
BROADWAY IS BACK! I cried happy tears listening to the opening music and seeing the actors dance and sing. The joy on their faces is infectious! I can't wait until I can get back to NYC to see a show!!
I was introduced to Wicked in 9th grade (2007) when we performed One Short Day in choir. I spent the following several months obsessing over the soundtrack. My mom was able to take me to see it- my first show on Broadway- in 10th grade (2008) for my 16th birthday, and it was breathtaking! Here I am in 2021, 13 years later, and I can still fit into the shirt I got that day! Watching this performance, even in its brevity, I got chills. "Fellow Ozians...Let us be glad, let us be grateful, let us rejoicify that" BROADWAY IS BACK!!!
I'm your age! I was introduced to Wicked in 7th grade (2005) when we performed For Good in choir (ours was in memory of a teacher who passed away). After listening to the soundtrack for years, I talked my dad into bringing me to a touring production- my first professional live theater experience- and got to bond with him over falling in love with it. Isn't it a treat to be able to mark the years and relationships in our lives with incredible musical theater like this?
I miss theatre SO much! I'm sitting here holding back tears. I can just feel the energy in that room. After being away for so long, I can only imagine what the curtain call must've felt like.
The spirit, enthusiasm and pure joy of the audience has me in tears this morning. Happy tears, to be sure. 💕 I am so grateful to whoever shot this video so that a woman living alone in a remote spot in the Colorado mountains can also enjoy this magical moment on Broadway. Love to you all. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💕
A story I find myself telling rather often is why this made me cry. I graduated highschool in 2020. in my highschool choir during our final concert the seniors all get sent off by singing For Good. We never had a final concert to be able to do that. Seeing so many people happy for the return of ALL broadway shows, not just Wiked or Hamilton or The Lion King fills my heart with joy as an actor because it's moments like these that us as performers L I V E for. Being able to bring joy into someones life that may need it is our job and it's what we love to do.
This morning I knew I could find some video from last night's performance. Jut like I did in the theater (all the many times I have seen Wicked on Broadway.). the spectacular Opening of this show made me weep.
This just made my night, it brought the biggest smile to my face and for a moment I was back in NYC, watching this incredible show, once again. And it's true, there's no place like home, but home is not the place you were born or the place you live in, home is the place you belong.
I saw this musical 11 years with my mom and dad and just happened to get great seats in the center about half way up. I’m so happy to see that Broadway is back
Let me say this. I was in this audience, I have been visiting Broadway since Miss Chenoweth and Miss Menzel were on stage in this show. It has grown. It has formed a following, and it is so essential in my life. SO essential. The story is crucial, and the care taken with the cast, crew, and house organizers is key. I am more than proud to be a lifetime fan. That night was electric. I hope there will be many more just like it.
Wicked was the first musical I ever fell in love with and is the one that started me on musicals, living in England I couldn't come watch, and being 15 I can't book my own tickets for West End yet anyways (trust me I BEGGED my mum to let me have the first show off school but I wasn't allowed). This show will always be close to my heart and I'm so happy to see everything opening up again.
I knew the first line well. Knew when it would be said. Still got choked up and grinned like an idiot when I heard it. Chills. Welcome back, Broadway. 🎭
In 2003, I happened to be in NYC to see the Lion King. When I went to the TKTs center I asked what they had tickets for. I was told a new show called Wicked. I decided to give it a go and fell in love. Now 17 show later on Oct 1st I get the pleasure of introducing my niece to her first Broadway show in Charlotte NC. I can not wait to see Wicked through her eyes.
As a aspiring actor myself I am beyond excited to see this show come back. This moment is for everyone in the Gershwin theater, I couldn't be prouder for all of you involved.
This was so beautiful to watch 🥺 I was one week old when Wicked opened on Broadway. I remember going to kindergarten with pamphlets about Wicked, singing Popular in the car, and just hoping that I would one day see Wicked on Broadway. With so many smaller and less prestigious theatres doing virtual showings and selling time-limited tickets for their shows (live or pre-recorded), you'd think Broadway would do it too, it's so disappointing they won't :c I understand when some say this isn't the same as live theatre, obviously not, but as a theatre student this was how we managed during the last 1.5 year. It also makes theatre more inclusive - for those who are disabled, live far away or can't afford a full ticked.
