I just "helped" tie a quilt for the first time at my church on Tuesday. I joined the ladies quilting/sewing group. I am SO excited to finally learn quilting. Ive been so afraid to and really can't afford to quilt. But this way, we use all donated materials to make quilts for Kenya and local ministries in Spokane, WA😊
This is so interesting and nostalgic! I remember my mother and grandmother using a frame to tie twin-bed comforters with tops made from woolen squares cut from old clothes. We kids had them on our beds in the winter. Mine even went with me to college dorm life. 🥰
I’ve always wanted to make a denim quilt and was very afraid. Thank you so much for making this so simple. I will begin in a few weeks and hope mine looks as good as yours. First video down, two more to go!
Jan - my 90 year old grandma quilted using a frame. I told her I was learning how to quilt and she asked ‘are you doing it by hand or machine honey?.’ When I told her machine she patted my hand and assured me that was ok too. You bring back some great memories with this video! Just let the husband know I need him to make me a frame! Thanks!
Jan, I would love to see a tutorial on how to make a quilt frame. Just finished a king quilt top, and am very interested in good old fashioned hand quilting!
Yes I too remember playing under the quilting frame that my mother had in the living room. But she had her frame hanging from he ceiling and would lower it when in use. She had nail holes down the boards and when rolled tight she would place a large nail through the hole to hold it in place.
@@JanHowell She had 4 pieces of boards 2 were shorter and two long boards that were a wider than the quilt. On each end were nail holes that went through both boards, to hold the quilt tight. The longer boards she nailed or tacked some heavy fabric down the long boards so she could pin her quilt to the fabric to roll the quilt as she worked. a little at a time, until all the quilt was finished.
Can you please share if there is a pattern to make this frame. I would love to do this for my great children! Make a quilt like this for them that is but need the frame. Thanks so much😊
I am so glad you shared this… I just finished my first smallish quilt (not quite queen sized) but it was a no binding one and it is too big for me to machine quilt so I thought I would tie it. Your video popped up just in time!
Love this quilt. What type of yarn was that orange ball you used? It didn't look like it was acrylic. And that was polyester batting? I couldn't listen loudly as I had a house of people sleeping!! So sorry if you mentioned it. xoxo
You may want to warn folks. If pinning the quilt be careful not to scratch the hard surface under the quilt. Just in case they are using a surface that can be damaged.

Showing how to make the knots with the needle as while placing the stitching for each tie is clever to the point of magic ❤. Thanks so much!

Yea it is acrylic yarn and polyester batting.
As an alternative to the batting or fleece, could one use a light blanket from a thrift store?
absolutely
If you only have carpeted floors, what do you recommend for laying out your quilt sandwich!?
You can use a large table or I have done it on carpet as well.
Hi I've just come across your video and am loving it, could I use a mix of stretch denim and none stretch or will it have to be one or the other??
Ihave used both together and it works fine.
You may want to warn folks. If pinning the quilt be careful not to scratch the hard surface under the quilt. Just in case they are using a surface that can be damaged.
Great tip, thanks
I would love to make a good quilt frame please
Good to know, I'll get working on it
Where do you get the legs for the frame? I have the frame but someone lost the leg stands.
These are my Grandmother's stands that my Grandpa made. My husband may be doing a tutorial on how to make them here soon.
@@JanHowell I can’t wait to see the tutorial. Thank you.
Quilting frame please!!!
That is on my list :)
I couldn't find part 3, binding the quilt. ???
It will be out this weekend.
So do those knots stay visible or have I missed a section
No, if you are getting bird nesting knots like this, you'll want to follow the tips as I have shown.
Sorry just realised there’s part 3 to watch. Thank you
No part 3 ???
It will be uploaded next week
Did your husband make a video about making the frame?
