You have an amazing craft room! Plus all the shelves! It's great! I am working in my 3rd quilt. This is a 30" x42" donation lap quilt for a veteran at the VA. I just finished tying it with yarn. I love your suggestion to use plyers to pull the yarn through. Wish I had thought of that. It is hard on the hands to pull the yarn through the fabric and batting. I pinned it in the floor which was hard on my back. I tied it on a bed with a cutting mat slipped under it so I would not tie the bed to the quilt. I am surprised that you did not put more ties in the quilt. My batting package says to put the ties in every 4". I enjoyed your video. Thank you. Pat in FL.
Just used this method on my King quilt yesterday~Love it!!! I love your quilt designs~ I like the use of pliers to pull the needle through idea~ I have FM, so after a bit my hands start to flare up. Using the inexpensive rubber Thimbles (2= One on the thumb, one on the forefinger) works pretty well for projects like this.
I find that you are very young to do the sandwich on the floor!! Me, my back is yackkkkk! So, I put my backing on the wall, straight and add the batting and after the top, all on the wall. I don’t know what my wall will be in some years when I will take off the flannel but I pinned on the wall to! You are very very good to do this on the floor . Lucky you and keep your young fitness!!
How far apart are you tying them? Love your video & style of teaching! Very relaxed and informative. It feels like I’m just sitting with a cup of my favorite beverage, chatting with a friend! Happy sewing!
I love the pinwheel pattern. I love the pinwheel potholders you made at Christmas. I went back to that video a few times. Those potholders are a big hit! People really like to get them as gifts.😄
The pinwheels are perfect. It looks like a good snuggle quilt. My husband almost got into golf, but he had too much Alabama hillbilly in him. He couldn't afford both golf and hunting. Not with his 3 boys he had custody of, me, my son from my first marriage and our daughter together. 😂😂😂
Love how you did that quilt it makes it so easy I did a quilt by turning it like that but I did a bit of straight stitch quilting I wish I had seen your video first … Thank you for a baby quilt I am going to do soon
I'm just finishing a tied quilt. I wish I had seen this before I started. I've put in a WHOLE lot more ties and I used crochet cotton thread instead of the yarn. Sad face-my hands are soooo sore. LOL Live and learn!
Carol- Next time will be easier! Honestly, I'm so glad my hubby recommended the pliers. It made it so much easier! I don't know why I fight him on some of these things, and it pains me to say he was right! 😊❤️
@@TheCraftyAuthor My hubby was right so many times too. He called me the "breaker" and he was the "fixer". :) He was great about finding ways to improve things. We are blessed ladies.
Thanks for showing your process. On the acking, I would have placed the pieced narin the middle somewhere instead of st the top so the edge would be easier to work with. Great job all in all!
Just made my furst t shirt quilt where majority of shirts are that jersey fabric not tees. It is fie my granddaughters bf for hs senior night. I thought i would do it this way so rhank you fir showing how. Question..do you think its ok to go thru the nylon type fBric wirh rhe needle to tie ir will it make holes
Hi Lynn- Yes! You absolutely could use embroidery thread. I have used it in the past. I would just make sure it's a bit thicker with a couple of more strands.
I just pieced my first quilt top and boy did I go full in! I did a king size! Much to my surprise, I'm very proud of the job I did so far. I've been struggling trying to figure out how to quilt this monster but just discovered the quilt tying and absolutely appreciate your video. Down to earth and very tutorial. However I do have a question that hopefully you can help me with. I am doing a minky backing and wanting to know if this will work? Also I have seen videos of some saying not to use a batting if you use minky. Any suggestions or advice would be great!
Hi Crystal- Congratulations on your king sized quilt! What a terrific accomplishment! As for using Minky, yes, you can use Minky. But...Minky is extremely difficult to work with because it moves and slides, ALOT! The reason why people don’t recommend Minky with batting is because of the movement of the fabric. It can be done though. You will have to pin, ALOT, and try not to sew the pins in the process. If you use Minky with the tie off method, I would not recommend using batting. If you use flannel or fleece, I would highly recommend batting. There is less movement in those fabrics. I wish you luck with whichever you choose! Happy quilting! 🧵❤️
Thank you so very much for answering my questions! I'm gonna try the minky aw I had already purchased it and I guess I'm ready for the challenge as I've already accomplished a good deal of one already just completing the top! I will definitely continue to follow your tutorials! Thanks again and God Bless!
Do you think this process would be ok to do any not tie and stitch in the ditch? I do love this method for tying! I’ve done two this way. No I want to try my first stitch in the ditch. Or shall I just sandwich and do it normal way with binding? Thanks
Glenda- I think you could do it just fine. 😊 I would recommend making a small mock-up with scraps and testing out the method to see if you like it before doing it on your full size quilt.
I made this quilt so many years ago, that I honestly don't remember. I had found those blocks in my closet, not realizing that I still had them. I think they were 12", but I'm not 100% positive.

Thank you so much for your kind words. Also, thank you for the rubber thimble tip. I need to get some and try that! 🙂
I look the way you work and I have back pain for you!!! You are a little bee, working hard to finish this quilt! Bravo!
Wow such an easy way to finish quilts that have in storage. Thank you for sharing and thank your hubby for helping you.👏👏👏
I definitely will, Beatriz! He sure does come up with some good sewing hacks! I'll make a quilter out of him yet! Hahahahahaha!
That's how my great grandma did all her quilts. Just beautiful!
Thank you ❤️
oh wow! lucky you! you have floor space! :-)
I giggled out loud when you used a wonder clip for your hair. 😂 Love your shirt btw.
😂 Right?! Who knew it had so many different uses. LOL

Absolutely lovley
This is just what I needed to sew my first quilt together without a binding. Thank you
Thank you! Great job by a real non glitzy quilter!!

Good job😊
Beautiful, my husband holds stuff up for me too.
Just love the narrow pinwheels in your borders. Good job 👍
Thank you! ❤️

Alice- I love mine! I don't like the small pot holders anymore after making the big ones. I think the pinwheel pattern is one of my favorites. ❤️
Thanks this is great, I’m making my first quilt and I’m using this video for finishing my quilt.

😂😂😂 Karen- You crack me up! The quilt is quite comfy and Sophie is happy because it fits both of us. So she now has another quilt to lay on. LOL!
Its beautiful. Thanks for this tutorial
Hugs.
Thank you Ginette 😊

Love the colours and pattern really nice.

I use the table to push needle thru. Arthritis also.

Very very smart 😊
Wow thank you I'm in a pinch, I don't have yarn, could you use embroidery thread, is it thick enough?

I had to clip my corners to get them nice.
What kind of batting did you use? Polyester or cotton.. brand?
I used Pellon Cotton Batting 90/10. 😊
Please share block size
