You are always so meticulous with your patterns, im surprised you let that little nub of white foam show in the front of the fly! I like it a lot, I have this type of foam too, will tie some, thanks Charles!

Man I love tying ..something about it just makes me happy ...I live in southern Michigan I bought my fly tying kit at a garage sale for 2 dollars about 10 years ago and fell in love with it ... unfortunately we don't have trout streams this far down the state so I focused my attention on tying big bass and pike and muskey flies..love your videos ...

What part of southern Michigan? If in the Detroit metro area, check out Paint Creek Trail. It can get a little crowded on the weekends, but still a nice place to fish.

I like the Blue Wing Olive Hatch too. In the fall it's 24 or 26's or go home. I just make sure I got a fresh 8x tippet. Went thru 3 spools of it from Aug to Oct last year, A low water conditions and some of the best dry fly action on the West Branch of Farmington. Last hour of the day there would be a tan caddis, and a decent # 16 and 18. Fish all day. Now its cold water is high and the only fish I have gotten so far is the one I bought at the fishmonger. The Little Black Stones should be showing up in about another month that kicks off the season for me here in CT.

Very clean tie, CC. I find that that way of finishing the hackle tie off of the parachute can be very messy for a schmuck tyer like me. Do you have any 'trick' to avoiding or minimizing trapped fibers in the whip finish?

Great looking fly! What do you think about tying it on a Klinkhammer?

  • @ShortyOnTheFly

Let's talk hooks. I tie my Parachute Emergers on Klinkhamer style hooks. Is there a reason I should reconsider and tie on the style that you use? The guys in my tying club discuss this on a regular basis. I also do emergers using snowshoe foot with a swept back wing AND an upright wing that give two different floating profiles. Are we tilting at windmills or is this a legit conversation?

Klink hooks tend to be pretty oversized in my experience. The 2487 comes down pretty small and keeps a very tight little profile. I think the Klink hooks would be fine for the bigger bugs. As for the different wing profiles, hell yes. An artificial emerger fly pattern is but a snapshot of what should be a motion picture of the emergence PROCESS. Depending on which exact moment in the process, the wings could be absent, halfway out but furled up or starting to stand up, not to mention the bugs that don't get it done cleanly and are at various stages of disheveledness. Tilt away, my friend.

@@CharliesFlyBox As always, you give me something to think about. That idea of the pattern being a snapshot of the process has really gotten the synapses firing. Thanks, my friend!

great video Charlie! Did you mean a PMD when you said BWO at 5:10?

On your parachute adams video, you mentioned a “trick” regarding the hackle sitting with feathers pointing up if they didn’t cooperate as you moved the hackle downwards. Never had to show the trick, and then this video didn’t show the trick. I vote you mess up a little and show us that hackle trick ha

Excellent point. I can never do it wrong in live demos either, even when I try! It only happens when I’m home alone with no witnesses or camera. I’ll try to maybe just do a quick “trick” video to show this one I guess!

@@CharliesFlyBox you would be even cooler if you did. I think I figured it out by kinda bending it back on itself, however would 100% love to see your technique ha.

Stay until the very end of the parachute adams video! After the finishing demo fly, he flips a hackle on purpose and shows how to reorient it when it flips.
