Well said. When I saw him take Mary for her “last ride” in his ambulance I knew Alex and his family were pretty special and cool! He could have just bought the house, cut himself off from everybody, made his money and walked away. I live in Ont and there’s no way you could get a house like that for the price they’re selling for. What a deal! I’d buy it in a heartbeat if I wanted to live in Alberta. Nothing against Alberta, but I’ve been here for over 50 years :). Great show!!

When I saw your interview with Mary, something she said stuck with me. That was that if you are in the process of creating art, it is hard to care for the daily tasks that life throws at everyone. I always thought I was just insufficient, getting distracted by the dishes and laundry and not having the energy to create more or faster, but now I see that I'm not alone. Since then I've been able to make great creative progress even though my home looks horrible. At some point one has to stop worrying I guess. Thank you, Mary!

You did not have to share the profits from the sale of those items with the family, but chose to anyway. The deal was that you got whatever was in the house, as I recall. I think folks should keep their snarky comments to themselves. I have seen you, time after time, do kind things for people that you don't have to. You WILL be millionaires one day, Alex and Melissa, as you should be, because you work your butts off and are kind and charitable and more than fair to others. It's called Karma, and you must have tons of that! Thanks for sharing this with us. Perhaps you can list the link to the house listing for us?

Melissa Penrod Reading your comment made me think...I wonder if Mary held on so many years (to the age of 102) because in the back of her mind, she wanted to somehow resolve the state of her house. Maybe she also didn't want to let all of her treasures and creations go. So when Alex came along and dug everything out, it eased her mind and released her. Sorry if I'm just repeating what you said (just thinking out loud). 😊

If you ever come to Ontario, would love to meet up. I'm the person who bought the bathing suit from the attic :P Would love to tell you an interesting story about why I was looking for a bathing suit like that. Think you'd love it. If you Google "Miss Toronto 1946" you'll see a bathing suit just like it. Also, I literally got choked up when you said "If you do kind things, people will doubt you, but you should still continue to do them." I have lived my life in the exact same way and I know the struggle. People always think when you're nice there is some ulterior motive. When, in fact, there are just genuinely nice people out there who actually want to be good people and do nice things. I, and so many others on this channel, have never doubted your motivations. We know you're good people. Don't ever let the trolls get you down. There's a reason that good things are happening in your life. It's because good things happen to good people. You deserve it.

Ignore the trolls, you are both a breath of fresh air. You are hard working decent people. Just in the fact that you believe Marys children should should share in the proceeds in what sold at the auction. You did not have to do that, you risked a lot buying that house, it was a massive gamble, and you took away a major headache for Marys family. Nobody has a right to criticize you. I congratulate you both for being warm humane fair minded people.

My aunt was a hoarder. She was never married but lived on a farm that used to be my Grandma's. After my aunt passed away we had two houses, a barn , and other out buildings to go through. All those buildings were full too. Since different generations had lived there we found stuff that had belonged to my great grandparents. My aunt had both houses filled from basement to the attic. Even the trash was kept. I totally know what you are saying that one would never get done if you went through inch by inch. It was amazing the stuff we found, but I know we got rid of a lot of stuff we probably should have kept to sell, and also items we should have kept in the family. We kept a lot for ourselves but you only have room for so much. I really would have loved to be at the Potters House to help go through all that stuff. Really enjoy your videos, your singing, and your integrity. You have a great family.

Mary was a talented lady who loved poetry and loved to write. She was an artist who drew and painted and a talented potter of world standard. I suspect she hated housework with a special loathing. I love craft and painting - especially fabric art - so I understand her storage/hoarding tendency and loathing of house work! By the way, who are the nasty little sh*ts trolling you? What on earth are they trolling you for? Being kind? Honest? Truthful? Hardworking? I have loved your journey, kick the trolls back under the muddy bridge where they belong. 😊🌸☺️

I do not want this series to end. Ever! I’m a potter myself, and I’ve only ever managed to make a sphere oil lamp, meaning it’s not completely closed with a hole in the top for a lamp inset. That was already difficult in my books. Can’t image a perfect sphere. You’re absolutely lovely people. Although the adventure cost you a lot of money (not including the huge amount of work you did), you’re still giving back a lot to the family who, as a matter of fact, didn’t give much help, if I understood correctly.

I know you said earlier on that some of her pieces sold or were valued at $20k+,seems they sold pretty low if that's the case. I wonder if you can put a reserve price on some pieces with the auction house? Not to be morbid, but it's not like she'll be making anymore unfortunately, so rarity is certainly to be considered. If you're happy with the results, then I reckon that's all that counts. I just wonder if putting everything up all together doesn't flood the market with to much, therefore lowering the scarcity and value. Good luck with the future auction also, I have nothing but love and good wishes for everyone and love seeing y'all prosper and thrive!!! PICKLE Rick rocks!!! Yeah, you certainly need him as a mascot for the new store, besides Zoltar needs an entourage to chill out with on those lonely nights after you close. It'll be like Night at the museum goings-on. Lol,Peas&namaste! ▪☆☆☆▪

My parents live in a town with a dump. Their dump has a covered area for electronics and some perfectly good stuff that people can come pick over, that hasn't actually gone into the dump proper. So it's not as disgusting as people think. My dad has gotten me SUPER cool birthday presents from the dump, that you can't get in stores (Vextrek, a gaming console that came out the same year I did ;P) and he got me a serger, that isn't the beat model, but it works, and I can't afford a new one lol.

Envision the house split in half by the stairway. You are standing at the front door with the stairs ahead of you a wee bit to the right. Open to the left is an entry where Alex had a bookcase with a couple chairs. Going back is the dining area then the kitchen. There is an entry to the other side at the dining area. Back at the door, to the right is the livingroom. Through the door at the back of the room is the hall. To the right is the bathroom, left is the dining room, and utility room straight ahead. Hope that helped more than hindered.

I just checked out the house listing and it's great. The pictures are fantastic. Hopefully it will sell quickly for you. I imagine it will. Very tastefully done, just beautiful. When you get the new store, let's start a new series ☺😉 You know how we love a series 😁

Millionaire, haha. If you have ever flipped a house on a budget with you're own elbow grease you would realize how much work it takes, a millionaire wouldn't do the hard work you did. Congratulations, you deserve every penny.

Alex , So glad to hear you're going to the doctor. Please don't be like mr. McDonald and play it down you've been coughing since the first day that you've been in that house, you need to have a lung X-ray because you sound like you have fluid on the lungs every time you cough. Now please don't make an excuse like mr. Mac would, his excuse for not going to the hospital with heart failure is that he has to take care of us at home. I'm so glad you are finally going real proud of you about that. The house looks great even the sunroom, if it was a porch it would have only a floor and a roof and possibly rails. I am concerned about all the cracks in the house you might need to get a house inspector The Climb underneath and see if there's any problem whatsoever with the foundation, that will protect you after all it's a hundred year old house and that will protect you from any liability. Melissa maybe you should go with him to the doctor and Book he found is not going to do the job. Your friends we send love to you great job on everything Rose from Las Vegas

Posterity over here, six months later. Just watched the whole Potter's House series, and had wondered about how the auction went, since it's no longer listed on that site. So glad to hear it was a smashing success!! Grateful you made (re-made) this video. Several of the original segments, including your interview with Mary, were so moving, and honestly brought me to tears. You are wonderful people, and your channel, a welcome discovery. Can't wait to share in your future adventures!!

Would have been such a tragedy if that house was burned down! Even without the pottery its beautiful place should be kept with pride for decades to come!!! The pottery was beautiful, I have no idea how many books were sold but this series a year later has been so great to watch. Loved it. Thank you.

I see comments that mention negative remarks, but I have not seen any and that makes me happy. I found so much joy in watching this series and I cannot see one thing that you have done wrong since the beginning. Alex and Melissa you are wonderful people and you will always be successful because of your genuinely good kind dispositions. I have however experienced that where one has the success that you have had, which is generally born of hard work and initiative, you have those who will be envious. Don't take notice of them. They are in the minority. The rest of us love you. I'm South African by the way.
