Not enough people talk about Shogun! It's a BEASTLY monitor and I'm always amazed that people think 5" is enough for proper composition and focus when most people don't even like 5" screens on phones!
I completely agree, this thing is a BEAST. Whether it's on camera or being used as a directors monitor. It truly is a perfect camera monitor...recorder...live stream device. :) Thanks for checking out the video.
I don't have the Shogun 7 which I believe you're referring to the older model? But if I could get one, I would gladly do a comparison. Thank you for checking out the video.
@@neilfullframe Yeah, that's what I mean. The original Shogun 7 was discontinued, which I never understood why and can't find enough RUclips videos about. It seems to have more options and possibilities than the new Ultra, looking at the specifications compared side by side... I own the original Shogun 7 and don't see a reason why Atomos wouldn't offer new updates. Hi Neil, I just wanted to reach out and express how much I enjoyed your recent video. It was fantastic! Your content is always informative, engaging and inspiring. I was wondering if it would be possible for you to create a detailed educational video on the Shogun. Specifically, I am interested in learning more about its menu and settings. If you still have access to the Shogun and can spare the time, a tutorial on navigating through the device's features would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, mate.
Thank you so very much for the kind words. I really appreciate you taking time out of your day to watch the video. As a matter of fact I am working on a deep dive video for the new model Shogun. I will come back here and let you know when it’s up on the channel. Thank you 🙏🏼 cheers 🥂
Hey there its the Sandisk 1TB SSD, you can find it on Amazon and I am not sure about the comparison to the Angelbirds. But it does have read/write speeds up to 550MB. Thank you for checking out the video and I am going to be doing a deep dive into the Shogun in another video soon.
Enjoyed your review. Thank you. What SSD card were you referring to that is one terabyte for $100 and compatible with the Shogun? Do you have a link for it on Amazon?
Great video - thanks for this review!Thinking of buying this or the Hollyland Mars M1 Enhanced, mainly for video transmission. The deciding factor: besides iOS devices, can you wirelessly transmit the Shogun video signal to a receiver for a Directors/Client monitor setup? I’ve got a 24inch SmallHD monitor and am struggling to figure out how I can send the signal to it 😅Thanks again!
Glad it was helpful and thank you for checking it out. With the shogun you can do remote view to iOS devices but directly to another monitor is not possible without some sort of wireless hdmi transmission system. So essentially a Mars 4K or something similar.
So I'm curious to know if I have multiple Atomos monitors with the Atomos connect module on the back, do I need to have a cloud service to get the monitors to communicate with each other or do I only need to register them over the local Wi-Fi? Or do I even have to register on a local Wi-Fi for the monitors to communicate with each other and transmit their signal to a directors monitor? So for example, if I have two monitors, let's say they are ninja 5.2 with the live connect, will I be able to broadcast to a Shogun 7 with connect and get dual screen viewing without the Atomos cloud paid service?
Hey there so the answers that I have are… yes you have to have them on a network (WiFi or hotspot) they don’t have to necessarily be on the same network to communicate because yes you would use Atomos Studio Cloud for any sort of communication between the monitors and or to setup the monitors for a switching video type of production. So essentially they can work as an ATEM Mini Pro switcher (within the cloud studio app/site) Also to get the functionality you want, yes you will at least have to get the cloud studio service which I believe the package that will allow the functionality you want is around $8-10/month.
@@neilfullframe got it, So at the end of the day, i'm either renting the usability of these monitors to include usage of Tx/Rx through Atomos - or just outright buying them through Teredek. . .
so if i have 2-4 monitors with connect and want to transmit all 4 to a shogun 7 with connect, I can do so with one subscription to Studio Cloud for 8-10/month? I'm not sure why I was under the impression they would be able to sync directly without the use of the internet. . .Feels like they have the ability to do so for sure - it also seems like there would be some serious lag/latency issues connecting through the cloud. . .there is no way this will work for an AC to pull focus because of latency issues
Haha it is the mic 🎤 it’s the Saramonic Blink Me 2 thank you for checking out my video. I greatly appreciate it and another video is coming, deep dive into the monitor.
Another question I have! I was checking the compatibility list on the Atomos site and saw that Blackmagic Cameras aren't listed as supported for using the monitor as a recorder. Do you know if the shogun (the one you have) works with Blackmagic cameras? I remember there being some beef between Atomos and Blackmagic in like 2018 or 19.
Great question and it works with the blackmagic but BM cameras only output 1080P to the monitor and no other functions are available such as choosing what codec you’d like to input on the Shogun/Ultra. So in short, I wouldn’t say this is the best monitor/recorder to get for BM cameras. I would suggest a Portkeys monitor if you don’t need the recording capability. Also with the Portkeys LH7P and BM III SERIES you can control BlackMagic cameras features.
@@neilfullframe Understood. Thank you for your help with all of my questions. It's a great monitor, but I might have to pass on it for either the Video Assist 12G, or SmallHD 702. Great content and thanks again!
I’m using a smallrig articulating arm monitor mount. Check out my BMPCC6KG2 rig build video and the link for the monitor mount is in the description. Thank you for looking into this video.
Great information! But I wanted to make sure I'm getting this right. The only thing turning me off from getting this monitor is the required SSD from Angelbird. BUT, can you use other drives that cost less? I mainly needed it for updating the monitor, but if I can go with another, cheaper SSD then I'm sold. Especially since this monitor has all the flavors of anamorphic de-squeeze, onion-skin (image overlay for matching shots), and EL zone along with False Color. I went on the Atomos site, but it's also comforting to confirm with an actual user. OCD got me triple checking before I push the button. lol. Great content again by the way. And thank you!
Oh yes you can definitely use different SSDs. I use the Sandisk SATA SSD and never have had an issue. They’re like $70 on Amazon for 1TB. Just install the SSD into the provided caddy with the unit, format it and you’re good to go! Thanks for checking out the video.

Got all my inputs and everything setup, going from a Sony A7IV in HD 24p via HDMI, hitting the record button and nothing happens. Also set up remote trigger from the camera so the Shogun records when the camera does, and also doesn't work. Any ideas gents?

Hi Niel, have you tried it on the R5? I got the ninja ultra and everything works except false color tools. I keep on getting the same message that I need to specify the input and output data although all are done and I’m exporting a raw image. Atomos takes forever to get back on support emails…
Not yet! I have a buddy who has an R5C and I was going to try it with the 8K output from the R5C.
