  • The race features the amazing historic Corsair F2G Race #57 with Robert Odegaard, #9 Cloud Dancer P-51 with Jimmy Leeward and #99 Hawker Sea Fury - Riff Raff with Hoot Gibson. This is a short Unlimited Reno style race with some very competitive racing airplanes and pilots. The G series Corsair has the huge Pratt & Whitney's R-4360 Wasp Major engine, rated at 3,000 horsepower, the largest piston engine ever put into production aircraft. The Sea Fury is hot-rodded with an 18-cylinder Wright R-3350 radial in place of its original Bristol Centaurus radial. The P-51 Mustang has it’s Merlin V12 tuned to race and keeps up handily with these super radial engines.
This compact pylon race lets you see the aircraft in action as they pull some serious Gs around the turns. Race 57 Corsair smokes out on the 3rd lap. It never looks good when the gear is down and a big smoke is pouring out of the 28 cylinder engine. The race continues as these men are competitive and want to put in some hot laps.

RIP Bob Odegaard and Jimmy Leeward. Just goes to show how dangerous air racing is when 2 of the 3 pilots here were killed in accidents.

Did he actually smoke the engine or was it just for effects
