There is coolest trick instead of focus peaking. Turn on RAW mode and set the in camera sharpness on its maximum and you re gonna spot crispy glittering shakiness on the objectsthat are in focus. Just try it out ! (it’s not gonna affect the raw image in your Lightroom/capture one etc and you’re able to control it) but you get much more shots IN focus.
I recently got an adapter ring for an old Canon FD 50mm f1.8 that has been sitting around since the 70s. I also have two Pentax K mount lenses from my old Ricoh SLR that I bought around 1984. Going to play with the 50mm first. I'm new to the mirrorless/digital game, so it's going to be fun. The focus peaking feature really helps a lot with focus on the vintage lenses. Fun video!
I love using vintage lenses on my Sony. Sharpest are the old Pentax SMC lenses and Olympus lenses for lovely look. You can zone focus if you stop down a bit too.
Thanks for this video! I'm shooting a classic Nikkor used 55mm macro F1/2.8 and loving it, once I got used to the manual focusing: I appreciate your vintage lenses information...
Mate, your shots are SO sick! Love your look. Getting my A7iii in a couple of days and I've already got some vintage glass from my Nikon that I'm gonna adapt. Was impossible to use on a cropped DSLR, but I'm hoping the focus peaking on the sony is gonna help a lot. The shots you got are mad sharp 🔥
I love the look of old lenses on modern bodies. You don't get all the fancy new technology, but the look is interesting. I mainly shoot with old 80s and 90s Minolta and third party A Mount lenses on my A7III. I was looking at different adapters and use old thorium/fluorite (radioactive materials) coated lenses. They have very unique properties.
i just bought a Nikkor 24mm which on my Crop sensor D3200 Nikon it will be a 36-37mm and i wanted to shoot 35mm. i havent got it yet tho and im hoping its not much hassle of mounting a vintage lens on my D3200..
THIS was the video I was looking for! Got my Grandfather's old Pentax Spotmatic and lenses and I'm trying to see if it's worth getting an adapter to use the lenses with my A7sii. Wayyyyyyy cheaper than investing in new lenses! I'm okay with just manual focus, I never do auto-focus anyway.
It is so funny when I hear the numbers they paid for the lenses. Since more people hopped on the vintage train the prices for those lenses have gone way up.
The peak design camera strap? Sorry unsure what you are refering to, if you mean the red circles it is where you clip the camera strap to. Hope that helps
Hi as a newbie and an old fart(59) when using vintage lens(just received a 50mm F1.8 olympus) am i correct in getting the right shutter speed by adjusting the exposure meter? Camera is E-m1 in manual mode of course
I love shooting with vintage glass. I got me some modern lenses that cover the entire range for my Pentax dslr but I also have twice as many vintage lenses which I use from time to time. That old heavy metal feeling in your hand, in addition to manual focusing is a whole different experience. I also use zoom-in for focus, if i want precise results ..otherwise I rely on the sound indication my camera does when it thinks i have a correct focus in the viewfinder. (For some reason I never really liked focus peaking) As for the quality, I get good results with some of my old Pentax glass. Really good results!
So, 2022 now and I'm wondering... Is that 135 mm is still in your bag as you promised? :) Something tells me it's not. Usually people admire something vintage, but one way or another, in the end, these items are replaced by reliable and modern solutions.
You mentioned you'd love the 135 to be auto focus. I bought the Fotodiox Pronto adapter few months back and now all my vintage lenses are auto focus. It was a game changer for me now i can almost run and gun with virtually any vintage lens and nail the focus!! Only works with Phase Detection AF. Will set you back about £200 though for the luxury but worth it imo ;-)
@@ErikGailans hi the adapter will work with all the lenses on Curtis's video. Works best with smaller lenses without the need to do much manual focus unlike long telephoto zooms like my nikkor 80-200 f4 ais which needs a manual focus around the area you need then auto focus works great with pronto. I am in UK bought i bought it of Fotodiox in USA cost around $250. Seemed pricey but i do enjoy using it but like to manual focus when not in such a rush

I was given 2 Pentax SLRs, a KM and a K1000 with 4 lenses and since I’ve heard I can use them on my XT3 I really want to try it, especially with the price of Fuji Lenses, know the look will be different which is what excites me about it. What’s the best reasonably priced adapter to get please Curtis? I’ve got the 135mm but not the 2.8 unfortunately
That's a lot of lenses, definitly worth giving it a try, I would look at Gobe Adapters, it was the one I used and work perfectly for what I needed it for and only cost £25
@@CurtisPadley My mistake, I’ve two Pentax and 2/3 Minoltas, I’ve been using the Pentax KM but not developed the film yesterday, few shots left. Only issue with using the Pentax for Street Photography, when I can that is, is the weight, they’re so heavy but something I really want to try

same haha
I have adapted my 80's Nikon lenses and Pentax as well to Sony A7II. Use them more often than Tamron 28-75 G2 I have

It's really interesting to see the vintage vs modern comparison. Felt like the vintage 50mm had a warmer colour cast to it as well
Definitely, looking back I notice that now as well, super interesting.
Put a lens hood on the Practika and try those comparisons again if you've not already. You'll be surprised.

Love vintage lenses use them all the time for video and photo
Ive bought 25 mint nikkors for a sony a7riii full spectrum infrared- my mind is blown by the image quality- use a novoflex or metabones adapters
Some of those photos came out really insane!
Whats that thing on the camera where the strap would normally go? Seen it on a few ppls cameras but dont know what it is?

@@CurtisPadley Exactly. Happy new year from Greece.
Lets hope we get over this s**t asap.
I have a Helios 44m 2/58 have used on my Canon 5D MKIV and the R6 love it.
I have the same vintage lens and it’s amazing my favorite is also 135mm
Lens A looks so good at 10:29 Am I the only one noticing it?
Vintage lenses offer a distinct personality. SLR Build quality is surpasses digital by DECADES.
The photos from the 135mm are insane
Thanks!
What adopter is that?

@@Ricky9lfc no :(
@@Danyopharaoh Finally found the answer! :) it's a PB mount, but you can also get this lens with a m42 mount. Just in case you needed this info.

Thanks mate, definitely is, maybe have to get a couple more now.
If you a put a lens hood on that vintage lens it'll cut out all the flair .

what is the adaptor called?
I've called him Bob

Manual lens remind us thay camera is only a tool to capture lights
Why don't you put the strap around your neck the camera might fall off
I trust my flesh and bones to keep hold of the camera. I've never had a camera leap from my hands 😂
