Great explanation on why there is a phase modulator in fibre optic gyros. Thank you!

Appreciate the effort that went into this! Very easy to understand, and just what I was looking for

I was just looking for this content, I have selected this topic as my final project for my photonic course. I was not sure if I should go for this or chooses something else, but after watching it, I m definitely gonna do it. Thank you for this video.....

y is cross-track error, often given in units of nautical miles.

Thank you so much @Jonathan, I wanted to know why does a phase shift occur when rotation occurs ? Please please reply ! I need to know the answer, Internet is not helping much. :(

If I'm understanding this right, the phase modulators (3:55) are effectively acting as a magnifying glass, multiplying the spread between the light paths, thus increasing the phase shift, so it's easier to detect? Thanks in advance to anyone who can confirm/clarify!

    Hi Marco,
It really depends on a lot of factors. You can get cheap gyros for you’re yacht, but I’m sure the ones they use in spacecraft are much more expensive.

Hey, bit confused on the bias error equation. Where did you get the trajectory error from? And what are the units for it?

The lego brick diagram was good! You can leave out all the maths :D

Nice video... But looks like you are trying to hard to show off with your looked up math stuff.

Looks like he's trying hard to present a _complete_ formal rationale for actual interference computations.

The maths explanation helps back up his arguments. If you dig deeper into inertial navigation systems, the maths presented here is a tiny fraction of what is used. He's giving you a clue that there is a whole lot more available.
