Horrific nightmare...it's the loudest, petrifying act of destruction. I experienced one at night. It's tough but people will amaze you with generosity. Peace to the family!
Bless you hearts. So scary. Very sorry you all went thru this. My children went thru a tornado when they were a baby and 3yo at babysitters house in our neighborhood. The husband was home for lunch recognized train sound grabbed my baby son from a baby bed in the back, put all kids on floor in middle of house and quickly threw quilts on them, He then sheltered them with his body. House was damaged with lots of glass everywhere but everyone was ok. It completely destroyed some houses and the school but ours was untouched with bicycles and trash cans still standing in the carport. I have been forever grateful to him. My sons are 50 now but I remember it like yesterday. I am thankful you have neighbors and friends to help you. Much love to you all as you struggle to rebuild.❤

There is a company in OK that will put them in all over the midwest, Flatsafe tornado shelters. I've seen some testimonials from people who have had to use them in an F5 and they survived.
Well when you have nowhere else to go what do you do? My family we live in a mobile home, if there is a tornado we don't have anywhere to go. Not everybody has a tornado shelter, we live in a mobile home park there's no shelter here, not everybody's fortunate to have something like that.

there is no structure going to take a direct hit from a tornado ...here in Dallas $500,000 homes were flattened from a tornado, doesnt matter what it is it will be flattened..
They probably didn't have anywhere else to go and tornadoes can happen in seconds and if you don't hear the warning or you're not watching TV or on your phone and you don't know that one is coming I mean you don't usually have time to get out and go somewhere and it's safer to be in an enclosed place anyway then driving around trying to find somewhere to go and luckily they all survived. Me and my family live in a mobile home in a mobile home park we don't have any kind of tornado shelter here not everybody's fortunate to have that you just have to make do with what you have.
I'm not an expert in Tornado weather, but I thought Tornadoes happen in mid to late Summer!? There is still snow on the ground, or it looks like snow in the background. So isn't not normal for Tornadoes to happen now?!?
They are more common during spring and early summer (or used to be anyway). Iowa just happened to have the right conditions to spawn a tornado so early in the season. A cold front moved in immediately after the storm so to pour salt on the wound, it snowed.

Come on! I grew up I Oklahoma. It is irresponsible to not have insurance on your property and more irresponsible to not have a shelter when you live in tornado alley.
@@thomasmbr you cannot look at life from the perspective of your own experiences. i won't say you were privileged - i'm sure things were difficult for you - but the shelter and insurance itself were fortunate for you to have. i'm glad you got to have them while being in poverty, but that does not apply to everyone else in poverty, especially now that times are different.
Would have given god a few more kudos if there hadn't been a tornado or it left the house intact. Kind of like when a passenger jet crashes, 164 people killed but the dog in the cargo hole survives and it's a miracle....

When I lived in Illinois, we used to call mobile home parks "tornado magnets."
Always an iinterested point of view especially when their are numerous brick and motar homes completely leveled and the occupants didn't survive
