Poor little Bailey 🐶 wants to help so much; she's such a sweetie pie! 💗 I feel for Tim. A new puppy and his gorgeous plant collection is probably a little tricky finding a balance. I have to distract my cats whenever I need to do a plant overhaul and it usually ends in broken pots, soil everywhere and traumatized animals... Lol. So Tim, you're doing well 💕💜🧡🐶
The poor Syngonium Fantasy falling out of the soaked pot was a classic moment! Looking forward to an update to see if it can survive on the pole only 🤞
I love bailey. She makes me giggle. Those high-energy puppies are so cute. Timothy excess water in the pot would properly be fine for leca/pon but not for the aroid mix. SPG, the doctor bit was cute. That plant Timothy burned, I overwatered mine in winter and the leaves all fell off.
😮😅😂 OMG, this was so entertaining. I really loved this video so much for so many reasons. The video provided so much valuable learning content for newbies like me just walking through the process for the first time. I loved watching you school Timmy. Let me be clear, I don’t want to see you beat people up verbally (which I don’t think you did) but seeing the banter was hysterical because you’re so straight forward. There was a trend and you pointed it out. Learners like me need to hear that. I literally laughed out loud several times!!! You pointed out exactly what the problems were as well as what Timmy was doing well, which as a learner was quite helpful. Teaching can be challenging that way. Especially with friends! I love your honesty and straight forwardness (is that a word?!! lol). You’re authentically you. I love that about you too! ❤ As a viewers we got to see first hand what mold looks like on a moss pole, what happens when you water too much, what happens when environment differs in different areas of your house, what can happen when you leave a plant outside too long, what happens when life gets busy, what unhealthy roots look like on a moss pole… You may have been grumpy because you didn’t think: 1. Timmy needed so much help/schooling and your quick video turned long form when you both had limited time & 2. he basically knows the system and has you readily available as a friend so he shouldn’t need a lot of help, right? He should be a regular chop and extend pro. He’s just like the rest of us! 😂 To be honest, this ended up being a fantastic example of real life working through the process of plant care. Moss poles vs potted plants. We got to see Timmy doing the work this time and struggle through because you usually just do it for him. At least that’s what I see from the videos I’ve watched. Timmy is a great helper but you do the critical plant care work. I completely appreciated seeing Timmy work through it though. He’s the perfect example of how when environments change plants need different care even when you know the system. As we all learn your system there’s a learning curve to how we water and care for our plants and this showed that clearly. Timmy, your plants look amazing! You are obviously doing something right for them to look so good! We all have those few plants that give us trouble. And had SPG not come over, you would’ve had bigger problems in a few weeks. Let me say, I get the water in the pot problem. Even after you water it fully, water continues to drip through. Or you’re in a hurry and just need to get it done quick so you water it in the pot. I don’t think you need to stop filling the base with amendments yet. I think going back through after you water with an empty bucket to dump the excess water would be a game changer for you! Sometimes it’s just easier to water in the pot. I get it, I do the same thing sometimes. Things I would’ve liked to see more closely if there was better light was the damage from thrips and spider mites. These are things we talk about in the community but sometimes the visual part of what it looks like on specific tropical plant leaves can be difficult to find. Sometimes I freak out over little things like wonky new leaf growth thinking it’s bugs but it’s just a plant getting used to a new environment or being repotted. So learning the normal defects, mineral build up vs insect damage is what I’d like to see more closely myself. Keep doing the great work you do! I love watching your videos and I appreciate learning about everything, including the ugly side of things. 😊 I know this is long winded but I had so much to say!! 😂 Take care!
A whole 44:50 of smiles for me. I felt like you were scolding me as well, 😂 you guys have great positive energy together. Love how Tim said “right yes” with just a bit of excuses 😂. Thanks for educating us.
That intro is a hoot ❤ poor Tim’s getting trashed! Jan be nice! He’s still new at this and there’s sooo much to have to learn!! But I appreciate knowing what happens if I get complacent. I do t tend to learn a lot if someone’s collection is perfect. My Adensonii pole is so tall I have trouble keeping it moist let alone reaching it with a bottle! It’s time to chop her I think Ok Jan, Tim is on a different journey than you, he says he’s ok with a bit of janky leaves he said “it’s better than nothing” and you chop them anyway. Let Tim have some control too he’s willing to pest treat and fix it until new leaves come in. I’m just saying Jan, they’re his plants now, and positive reinforcement is good too!
He called his friend for help and this is not the first time he is meeting Jan. I think Timmy can take it. Also when you are finding plants after plants soaking in water on the verge of rotting it can be unsettling 😊 and Timmy has done it before too but it was hot = easier to deal with
Well technically we started this hobby together 🫢🫢 so he should have a similar amount of experience in the grand scheme of things 😂 and if he wants conteol over his own plants he doesn’t need to call me :D haha don’t worry, we love teasing each other :) we take it light-heartedly
I was kind of shocked and cringing when I saw the amount of water in the pots. Maybe it would be best if he didn’t use those pots and just put a tray underneath so that he can see the amount of water pooling and then empty the tray. He seems overwhelmed, I wouldn’t give him anymore indoor plants until he gets a handle on the ones that he has. 🤔 Loved the video and Bailey is growing so fast!!
Wow you were really grumpy haha!!! Timmy is definitely trying and doing overall pretty good.....we are all Timmy honestly haha!! Overall though it was really good to see all the tips you gave him. Also love seeing Bailey!!
😠 Love these rescue videos! There is no SPG without Timmy at this point. His experience provides much needed encouragement cause let’s face it our plants are also our teachers too and looks like Timmy is starting to get the hang of reading his plants.
He’s a great way to show ‘trial & error’ happening live in fromt of us hehe :D once he gets the hang of it & understanda the conditions in his house better there’s no stopping him :)
This got a little too painful to watch through. Tim is doing everyone a favor by making the mistakes your viewers are probably making. Be kind to him. There’s a leap from doing an act of watering a plant, following instructions, to understanding when why and what constitutes a proper job at it. By helping Tim you help your viewers and that is actually a fantastic idea. It hadn’t occurred to me all the ways that instructions can be misunderstood until i watched (most) of this video. Your points and your instructions were excellent. Keep up frequency, lower volume for instance. There are many you tubers who won’t even discuss how much to water because so much *depends*on dozens of factors. Good on you for trying to educate about those factors. I think empathy is the position that serves you best. Tim, you are a champ for standing in for all the viewers. Your shortcuts and wanting everything to be the same all the time are exactly what the normal person would do. My suggestion would be to put the bottle on and then come back an hour later to check on them. When you take off the bottle check to see if there is water in the pot. Dump it out. If it’s a lot, reduce your volume by that amount next time. If there is no water or another partial bottle on until you get water and increase your volume by that amount for next time. And it will change. Always check. Jan when he goes on vacation is telling you how much to water each one based on recently. That’s why you are successful at it. His instructions would not be valid for an entire year.
Some of those looks Tim shot at the camera... You guys are so fun together.😂 As the SPG empire grows, you might need to practice that constructive criticism before you start hiring people. Brutal roast! Great to see Bailey NJ!
I'm leaving for a ten-day vacation and my brother will take care of the flowers. Tim is perfect compared to him, so I'm terrified of what I'll see when I get back 😱 As always, a great duo plus sweet 🐕
For anyone also struggling with watering frequency for poles; get in the habit of just squeezing or touching the pole in a couple places all the way down once a day or every couple days. After a while you will figure out what it feels like just before it gets crunchy and you can either water then or just adjust to lesser amounts more frequently. Personally I've gotten used to more frequent watering with less water to keep my tall poles moist but if you leave it longer just be aware the very top of the pole might get hydrophobic between watering (don't do it if you plant is at the top) You should get used to the amount of water each size of pole needs over time but at first start with a small amount and leave it a day and see how far it soaks down the pole then adjust more if needed. In summer you will need to water more. Fuller rooted poles need a bit more frequency as well. At first a day after watering check the pole and the bottom for water. But once you get used to the amounts you need you won't have to checked the bottom pot as often.
The ideal is to soak the whole pole but barely leave any for the pot (if you're watering frequently) once established. If it's new on the pole I'd water the same way but also water the pot itself separately
Make sure to leave it 24hrs before adding more water as it won't have properly dispersed throughout the pole immediately and if u add more immediately you will most likely add too much
These are all great tips! I started with moss/coco poles half a year ago and by checking regularly I found the little signs of what they need! I still got mold on one recently (increased the airflow), or overwaterer one (repotted that one) but slowly you get a feel for it!
Stunning plants and stunning apartment x Thank you Jan for very informative trouble shooting. Very helpful. I would love a friend to give me so many amazing plants and then come and do so much for me. You’re a great friend x
This was really helpful! Timmy is not alone, I'm also struggling with adjusting my watering due to the conditions. But I am going to use your tip to reduce volume with my moss poles. Educational and funny! Thanks guys
@@Yambataller yup! Had my roommate look after my plants and three days after draining I came home and there was a lot of water still in the pot. I told her no worries but maybe check a day later as well if you can plus I will try to have them sitting in saucers instead of cache pots to make it more visible if water is accumulating 😅 If the rootsystem in the pole is still small then some water is just not absorbed and will keep draining in my experience
Shame on you Timmy! 😂😂😂😂 it takes a bit more time to take each plant to the sink for watering…but it’s really worth it and your collection is very manageable. I use a damp microfiber cloth (either insecticidal soap mix or neem oil) to wipe down my leaves during fall/winter while my plants are in the sink. I wipe them down at least once a month. The syngonium is beautiful…except for the aroid soup. Loved the video guys! 💦💦🪴🪴🪴😠😠
Sometimes, we need extra intense 'schooling' not to be lax with our growing endeavors. I just started watching you because I needed to make a moss pole for my Philodendron Majesty, your moss pole instructions were the BEST. You also have a great aroid mix so I was able to make my own. 👍👍 Since my newly poled😉 Majesty has yet to get roots growing into it, I've opted to just spray the moss every few days to alleviate mold starting. I have good airflow in my grow space (mostly orchids), so mold shouldn't become a problem. I watch a few other Aussie orchid channels, tho I live in BC, Canada. Thanks so much for all the great info that you share. 😃
This was really great video for me! I actually realized im doing lot of same stuff as Tim :) especially overwatering my moss poles. Thank you all 3 for this video
@@TimS185 definitely not! I always water top of the moss pole even if its bare and down is still moist! Time to change that thought. Explains what happend to my Esmeraldense hehe...

😿 by the time you think you've figured out watering requirements, conditions change. A+ for effort Tim.😻
He’ll get there eventually :)
Man! If I had that kind of window in that kind of a room!
The poor Syngonium Fantasy falling out of the soaked pot was a classic moment! Looking forward to an update to see if it can survive on the pole only 🤞
Pretty confident it will survive :) but there’ll be updates for sure :)
As a viewers we got to see first hand what mold looks like on a moss pole, what happens when you water too much, what happens when environment differs in different areas of your house, what can happen when you leave a plant outside too long, what happens when life gets busy, what unhealthy roots look like on a moss pole…
You may have been grumpy because you didn’t think: 1.
Definitely a great video to show trial & error in the working :) thanks for your lovely comment :)
Tim, just know your plants are still impressive and beautiful! ❤️
It's ok Timmy. We have all been there! Plants are extremely resilient, and they will bounce back just fine. You've got this Timmy! We believe in you!
💪💪
You guys are my favorite! And AJ and Bailey and Brad! This is hilarious! I don't know how you didn't crack up!! Great work!!
Thanks :)
Trust the process Timmy
A whole 44:50 of smiles for me. I felt like you were scolding me as well, 😂 you guys have great positive energy together. Love how Tim said “right yes” with just a bit of excuses 😂. Thanks for educating us.
😊 thank you
If you watched the etire video without skipping ahead, Jan said he doesn’t believe in sugarcoating. Scolding it is. 😆😆😆😆
The horror in your eyes says it all- love how absolutely ruthlessly honest you were with Timmy how worried he made you for your own plans 🤣😅😅
I’m a very honest person 🫣 can come across as harsh but I have good intentions hehe
Loved this! & love Tim!
Thanks :)
Loved the show Dr SPG and saw myself in Tim we know when we are not following doctor’s orders but we try lol
Haha always important to follow the doctors orders ;)
So Germanic 😂
That intro is a hoot ❤ poor Tim’s getting trashed! Jan be nice! He’s still new at this and there’s sooo much to have to learn!! But I appreciate knowing what happens if I get complacent. I do t tend to learn a lot if someone’s collection is perfect. My Adensonii pole is so tall I have trouble keeping it moist let alone reaching it with a bottle! It’s time to chop her I think
Ok Jan, Tim is on a different journey than you, he says he’s ok with a bit of janky leaves he said “it’s better than nothing” and you chop them anyway.
😠 😡 😾 . Bloody Grumpy. Glad you held your own Timmy. ❤
😂😂 he’s been through worse :P
I was kind of shocked and cringing when I saw the amount of water in the pots. Maybe it would be best if he didn’t use those pots and just put a tray underneath so that he can see the amount of water pooling and then empty the tray. He seems overwhelmed, I wouldn’t give him anymore indoor plants until he gets a handle on the ones that he has. 🤔 Loved the video and Bailey is growing so fast!!
It’s learning curve :) but yes maybe no more plants for now :)
Nothing more educational than these videos, dr SPG 👌 Thank you! And good luck to Timmy 🙋
Thanks :)!
Wow you were really grumpy haha!!! Timmy is definitely trying and doing overall pretty good.....we are all Timmy honestly haha!! Overall though it was really good to see all the tips you gave him. Also love seeing Bailey!!
Hehe that was not ‘really grumpy’ 😂😂 u underestimate how passionate I can get 😂😂
🤔🫡😅thank you Tim for being the focal point of what we ( loosely ;) all need to hear :) drown & drain
What I Know & Try to do 😅
Timmy-I have experienced all your learning experiences too. Thanks for being a good sport and sharing your collection!😾
Love Timmy so much !!!!!!!!! Great video, but as usual 😜
Thanks :)
Haha could only ever be that direct with a good friend of course :D
I'm leaving for a ten-day vacation and my brother will take care of the flowers. Tim is perfect compared to him, so I'm terrified of what I'll see when I get back 😱 As always, a great duo plus sweet 🐕
Good luck 🤞🤞🤞☺️
OMGawd the dog love 😂❤❤❤❤❤
Love a nice puppy greeting me🥰 🐶
For anyone also struggling with watering frequency for poles; get in the habit of just squeezing or touching the pole in a couple places all the way down once a day or every couple days. After a while you will figure out what it feels like just before it gets crunchy and you can either water then or just adjust to lesser amounts more frequently. Personally I've gotten used to more frequent watering with less water to keep my tall poles moist but if you leave it longer just be aware the very top of the pole might get hydrophobic between watering (don't do it if you plant is at the top)
You should get used to the amount of water each size of pole needs over time but at first start with a small amount and leave it a day and see how far it soaks down the pole then adjust more if needed.
Stunning plants and stunning apartment x
Thank you Jan for very informative trouble shooting. Very helpful. I would love a friend to give me so many amazing plants and then come and do so much for me. You’re a great friend x
Thanks :)
This was really helpful! Timmy is not alone, I'm also struggling with adjusting my watering due to the conditions. But I am going to use your tip to reduce volume with my moss poles. Educational and funny! Thanks guys
Thank you:)
Tim is so nice, loved you two interaction!!
Thank you:)
Timmy❤
„Grumpy emoji“
Poor guy
But that was really fun to watch
I’m lol because poor Timmy is drowning them plants… you need to take away all his cover pots and just give him saucers😂
The obvious tip to give Tim is: After he waters his plants drain all the cover pots 30 minutes later. Then they won’t be drowning 😀🇨🇦
Sometimes it’s important to state the obvious! :)
Better to check the cover pot several times during the next 24h. Poles can be draining for a long time.
@@Yambataller yup! Had my roommate look after my plants and three days after draining I came home and there was a lot of water still in the pot. I told her no worries but maybe check a day later as well if you can plus I will try to have them sitting in saucers instead of cache pots to make it more visible if water is accumulating 😅
If the rootsystem in the pole is still small then some water is just not absorbed and will keep draining in my experience
Poor Tim, chill 😂😂😂 just love them together!
Thank you:)
Happy growing :)
OMG, the syngonium fantasy pot "moment". I needed that laugh, thank you. Excellent video as always. I love the Tim vids.
Thanks :)
I need more of this banter. 😂😂😂❤❤❤ We need episode 2.
This is episode 2 🫢🫢 i linked episode 1 in the description :)
💜💜 we are learning along with you Timberly! This is so helpful for beginners!😡
Thanks:)
Awe Timmy.. 😕 you are doing a thoughtful and kind job taking care of your plants.. 😤
This was really great video for me! I actually realized im doing lot of same stuff as Tim :) especially overwatering my moss poles. Thank you all 3 for this video
So it’s not just me…
@@TimS185 definitely not! I always water top of the moss pole even if its bare and down is still moist! Time to change that thought. Explains what happend to my Esmeraldense hehe...
Took me a couple of years to really have a good feeling for the required volume :)
I laughed so hard that I choked while drinking! Tim called SPG for a checkup, but heard that the illness is terminal. 😝 Dr was not joking today as it was serious conditions. Tim didn’t bother himself as he thought Dr SPG can do surgery; he just didn’t know you can’t raise the dead. Awesome vid that we can all learn from Jan & Tim!😖
Haha lovely summary!! Thank you:)
The pole chop would’ve upset me 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Omg the puppy at 7:10 😍 then she starts entertaining herself lol
You and Timmy and Bailey are quite a comedy team ❤
Thanks :)
.....I would kill for those windows!! My flat is so dark it may as well be underground. Grow lights everywhere 😩
Those windows are EVERYTHING 🙌🙌
I love how you dont go hey you dont have a green thumb but tell whats happening and visible and going wrong
There’s no such thing as a green thumb :) it’s all just about applying principles & dedicating the time :)
I love when you do emergency plant doctor, it cracks me up that you even have a white coat.
My mother in law went to a master gardener's class and she always wants starts of our plants. I finally told my husband no more, because she successfully kills them almost every single time, with the exception of a few random ones🤨😠
Thanks :)
Love the Dr. concept SPG !
Thanks :)
Timmy ❤ brotherly love
Great video. I love to see you two and Baily.
You can do it Tim it s gonna be ok. 🤗
We’ll just try again :)
I literally run to my moss poles (just 3 luckily 😂) to water them right at the beggining of the movie 🫣😄 thank you dr SPG, you helped more people than Timmy 😆 anyway poor Timmy, so little praise, so much criticism 🤣 but I belive the pupil outgrows his master one day, be careful 😂💚❇️🌿
