My dad was alive, he use to endlessly play LPs of the likes of Neil Diamond, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Glen Miller, Fats Domino, Frank Sinatra, etc. He expressed that these artists are all in a class of their own. Well Neil...you've just proved out of the kindness of your heart, going out of the way, flying to the Boston Red Sox game to sing and lift the nation up, that you're "beyond a class" of your own. Thank you!
That was really nice of Neil Diamond to make the trip to Boston to sing "Sweet Caroline" to the city of Boston at Fenway Park after what they've been through. Neil Diamond is one thoughtful, considerate, compassionate, empathetic, caring, nice, classy good guy. I'm sure this is a moment that Boston & Boston Red Sox fans will always remember. What a nice gesture & great memorable moment. :-)
I live in the Philly area and had the privilege to go to a Red Sox game at Fenway. I had so much fun when Sweet Caroline came on. Red Sox fans are very friendly and I had a great time!
I was in Boston with my mom and sister and one of my twin boys in 2011. One of my twin boys graduated from Berkeley college of music. Took my mom and sisters to Fenway and they absolutely loved it. Great times!! My other twin boy had graduated from Marymount Manhattan two days earlier. I’m so very proud of them both.
So cool to watch this, I am sitting here in the middle of Australia and today I am actually wearing my Red Sox shirt. I had the chance to go to a game almost 3 yrs ago. And to top it off I had the honor of sitting I the EMC2 corporate box. :) Prior to this a knew nothing about the team and being a huge Neil Diamond fan I was stoked when the song came on. I have very fond memories of Boston and can't wait to visit again. God Bless you Boston.
i plugged a jukebox one night and picked this song, no biggie, just wanted to hear it since it had been a long time. i set the entire bar alive that night, it was simply awesome when everyone joined in. when i go out i always look to see if its on the machine.
I am a huge Neil Diamond fan, my parents were tree people at the Greek in 1969. I am glad I finally got to see him on his 50th anniversary tour before he retired. Oh and I grew up in LA and hate the Red Sox but I appreciate the way they honor Neil.
Niel flying out on his own dime to Boston to help uplift the spirits and show his support was amazing. He wasn't asked to fly here either, they asked him to sing at the last minute almost. He didn't lip sync, singing to his own recording was probably a little difficult. So stop giving him crap. He did exactly what was asked of him. And he uplifted so many people and brought some joy after everything Boston and everyone has been through. God Bless him for doing this.
He not only flew out on his own dime, but turned up unannounced. I had always assumed his appearance was done in coordination with the Sox, but he showed up unexpectedly and of course it was a no brainer he would sing live.
I am afraid you miss the point. This wasn't a concert - Neil Diamond showed up on his own nickel and asked if he could sing along with the standard recording we have all heard so many times at Fenway Park. Sweet Caroline is a tradition at Red Sox games and at a very emotional time following the marathon bombing out comes Neil Diamond to sing along - pretty classy in my opinion.
Boston goes crazy in a “good “ sense with this song!!!! We SO “need” people being happy and singing! Hope this makes a come back...someday! Thank you Neil Diamond! And I live in Massachusetts 😁
I’m originally from Massachusetts and have been to Fenway Park. I have taken part in the singing of “Sweet Caroline” It’s the coolest thing to be with thousands of people singing the same song and feeling so together for those moments. I hope it never stops. I pledge to go back next season to see my favorite team (Go Red Sox)and feel those vibes when our country is Back on Our feet again. “Sweet Caroline” brings tears to this old mans eyes...☮️
He wasn't lip synching, in the true sense of the word....the stadium played the studio track ,he was singing along , same as the crowd. Class act-this was done as a tribute to the people of Boston not an attempt to fool people into thinking he was singing at a concert
Stay classy Mr Diamond that is just what the city needed. All of those smiles brought tears to my eyes! That was awesome of you to do that for them and the rest of us also! Thank you!
Now i feel that my name just means that much more. I am from Massachusetts and it means a lot to see so much support from the entire country. Boston Strong. America Strong.

Have seen many Neil Diamond concerts through the decades...he's a class act and a loving, generous soul. Wonderful to see a good guy shine in this video...
Boston is such a great city, this is just a small part. New England is a great place to live. History, Sports, Food, Culture, the Mountains the S ....... and on and on and on
This is the music I grew up too. At the time of its release in 1969, I was a dis jockey with American Forces Radio and Television on the Island of Crete, Greece. For 3-1/2 years I enjoyed the ouzo, wine, and the lifestyle of the rich and famous (I was a dirt poor soldier and not famous). I can't tell you the number of requests for this song.
I loved it. I will not criticize a single thing. Neil Diamond came cross country at his own expense just to sing Caroline at Fenway on that very sad day. I loved it.

Oh wow! What a treat for Boston! God bless Neil Diamond and Boston!! I wonder if he really knows how much his appearance and performance meant to Bostonians who suffered such a horrendous tragedy. One good man, one strong, tough people, Fenway Park...this IS America, people! Go Boston and go America! Wish I were there to show my support, respect, and deepest sorrow for those who died, who were injured, and all the families and friends of the victims. God bless Boston!! I pray for you always.

Not lip synching, just singing along to his own song over the PA. Definitely heard his voice in the mic there. Even so, great comment. Tears, baby. Tears.
10 years later, maybe you'll see this comment, maybe you won't. But I have the background information on why they played this specific audio track and didn't have any other track, instrumental track, or a live band: This is one of the oldest recordings of his song, and was technically just outside of copyright, so they didn't have to pay another production company or one of the predatory investors that buys up song rights just to use it. They also didn't have to coordinate with local actors and performers unions, which can derail things for weeks or months. This Boston performance was thrown together over a couple days, and they worked with what they legally could. And yes, total class act to not just lip sync and fake it. It kind of makes you feel like every time one of us normal people sings the song behind the steering wheel...lol
Imagine having been the one who created a piece of culture that has taken such a life as this has. The feeling of performing it front of so many, for whom it has far transcended simple enjoyment must be awesome ( real definition )

Not lip synching, just singing along to his own song over the PA. Definitely heard his voice in the mic there. Even so, great comment. Tears, baby. Tears.
10 years later, maybe you'll see this comment, maybe you won't. But I have the background information on why they played this specific audio track and didn't have any other track, instrumental track, or a live band:
This is one of the oldest recordings of his song, and was technically just outside of copyright, so they didn't have to pay another production company or one of the predatory investors that buys up song rights just to use it.
