In 2010 there was an interview with Ernie Isley and he said that Jimi Hendrix was a member of The Isley Brothers and was living with them when they all watched The Beatles first performance on The Ed Sullivan show February 9, 1964.
And Ernie said that they all became fans of The Fab Four. And Jimi played Day Tripper live and also their song Sgt Pepper the weekend the album was released in June of 1967.

In 1969, as The Beatles were in effect breaking up (although Hendrix may not have known this), Jimi was trying to assemble a supergroup to record an album. There is also an online August 1971 interview with Keith Richards where he said that the early Rolling Stones also had teen girls screaming at their concerts and there were no monitors back then.
Keith also said that they were also chased by teen girls trying to rip his clothes off on the street and he would say What do you want? He also said that The Beatles were so f****** good at what they did and it's a shame they broke up in such a tatty way.
There is also an online 2016 picture of Keith smiling holding a sign that says I ❤ The Beatles. And in a RUclips 2008 interview with him about what 5 other bands does he consider great besides The Rolling Stones, he said that he obviously has to put The Beatles in there and then said obviously again.
In 1963 Mick Jagger asked Paul McCartney and John Lennon if they had any songs for The Rolling Stones because they ( like most bands and solo music acts then) were only doing cover songs on their first several albums.
So John and Paul wrote the rock and roll song I Wanna Be Your Man for them right in front of Keith Richards and Mick Jagger who were really impressed that they could write a song to order just like that. And it became one of their first hit songs.
And it inspired them to start writing their own songs and both bands became friends from then on and hung out together. John played Keith Richards guitar and Paul played Bill Wyman's bass as they wrote it too.
John and Paul were such amazingly talented song writers that in 1963 they also wrote hit songs for Billy J Kramer and The Dakota's, singer Cilla Black, and Peter and Gordon just when their own song writing success was getting off the ground.

You dont have to like it but The Monkees are iconic in their own way. I think if they weren't beholden to their contracts with the TV network and allowed to write their own stuff they probably could have done some really interesting music. The only one that didn't really have any musical experience was Mickey Dolenz, the drummer. The rest were all accomplished musicians. David Bowie whose name was also David Jones changed his name to Bowie so he wouldn't be confused with Davy Jones from the monkees. Hell ZZTop toured as The Zombies for awhile because by the time the song Time of the Season got big The Zombies had already broken up. Its called the music BUSINESS for a reason.

@@TheW.Slayer-nw5ih Sorry, but the link doesn't want to go through. From FarOut Magazine UK Edition
When Jimi Hendrix asked Paul McCartney to join a supergroup with Miles Davis Staff @FarOutMag
      Mon 8 February 2021 9:00, UK
Take the ingrained genius of one of jazz’s finest ever acts, Miles Davis. Add to that already mercurial concoction the psychedelic virtuoso guitar genius that is Jimi Hendrix and finish it with the crystalline pop sensibilities of The Beatles’ Paul McCartney, and you have an otherworldly supergroup, the kind that could have taken over the world. It’s the exact supergroup Hendrix tried to persuade McCartney to be a part of back in 1969.
A telegram was once sent between Jimi Hendrix and Paul McCartney where the guitar player, who was an avid follower of Beatlemania which swarmed the earth and a keen fan beyond all else, tried to convince the bassist to be in a supergroup with him, Tony Williams and the great Miles Davis. It’s a matchup we would have been thrilled to see but sadly never came to fruition.
Hendrix and Davis had already been working together in New York with plans to record an album, a seamless collaboration considering that Davis was in his iconic Bitches Brew psychedelic phase. Now just to get that pesky Beatle signed on the dotted line.
McCartney, one half of the most iconic songwriting partnership of all time, would have brought the much needed chart-topping musical nous to the band and offered them up a clear pathway to worldwide success. To top it off Macca had been a massive advocate of Hendrix in the US when the guitarist was finding it difficult to break.
When Hendrix arrived on the scene in London, he blew everybody away and really did change rock and roll almost overnight with his swirling style and unprecedented moves. His psychedelic musings may have even influenced McCartney during his masterpiece Sgt. Pepper. Under the influence of The Beatles, Hendrix would get his shot at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, a performance that launched his career. It’s fair to say that Hendrix was influenced by The Beatles too.
In fact, the guitarist may have been the first artist ever to play one of the tracks from the album, “I remember him opening at the Saville on a Sunday night, 4 June 1967,” Paul later shared. “Brian Epstein used to rent it when it was usually dark on Sunday. Jimi opened, the curtains flew back, and he came walking forward, playing ‘Sgt. Pepper’, and it had only been released on Thursday, so that was like the ultimate compliment.”
Back to 1969, Davis and Hendrix, in our mind giggling like teens asking a girl on a date, sent an impromptu telegram to The Beatles man with the hope they might convince him to join their new supergroup. It read, “We are recording an LP together this weekend. How about coming in to play bass stop call Alan Douglas 212-5812212. Peace Jimi Hendrix Miles Davis Tony Williams.”
Unfortunately, the recording would never take place as Rolling Stone reports: “It’s unclear if McCartney was aware of the request…. Beatles aide Peter Brown responded the next day, telling Hendrix and Davis that McCartney was out on vacation and wasn’t expected back for two weeks.”
We’re afraid for those wanting to get a good look at the piece of rock history needs to meet two specifications.
Firstly, if you don’t mind a heavily-pixelated image you can find the blown-up telegram below. Or, secondly, jump on a plane to the Czech Republic and see it in real life at the Hard Rock Cafe in Prague. Now, we know which one we’d prefer to be doing.
But for now, think what could’ve been with Jimi Hendrix’s cover of The Beatles’ ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ below.

Anytime I hear people put down the Beatles, their opinion on music takes a big hit. And that's coming from someone who's mostly into 90s rock like Korn, tool, Marilyn Manson, etc. You just can't deny that the Beatles changed the entire game. They inspired people like black Sabbath, who then inspired Metallica, who then inspired Pantera, who then inspired avenged sevenfold, etc. and that's just one tiny web line in a giant web. Nirvana definitely wouldn't exist, kurt himself said nirvana sound was mixing the Beatles and black Sabbath, which became alternative rock like 3 days grace, puddle of mudd, staind, basically the entire 2000's rock sound. They popularized harmonies as well, which just makes every genre better when done right. You can't love music and dislike the Beatles, even if it's just to respect what the ripple effect has been.
Edit: there's some people in the comments who took this too seriously like a personal insult to themselves.. But one of the reasonable comments was one pointing out how the beach boys popularized harmonies, which is true. My mistake.

On their tour together Jimi wasn't enjoying the way the audiences raved over The Monkees, especially during Jimi's opening set (The Monkees were the headliner on the bill), so he quit and disparaged them. The Beatles were bigger than Jesus, and The Monkees were bigger than Hendrix.
The Monkees first single The Last Train To Clarksville was released a month (August '66)) before the first episode appeared on TV and it quickly climbed the charts before that first episode aired (Sept.) to reach #1 in November, followed by #1 hit I'm A Believer (7 weeks at #1, the biggest selling single of '67) in late December when their 1st album came out which also was #1 for 13 weeks. The Monkees 2nd album More of The Monkees was #1 for 17 weeks in '67. A Little Bit Me reached #2 in March, and their Headquarters album was #1 when it came out in May just before Sgt.Peppers came out and hit #1, pushing Headquarters to #2.
Hendrix was new and relatively unknown until that summer when McCartney got him on the bill at the Monterey Pop Festival. The Monkees were a huge phenomenon akin to The Beatles, compared to Jimi Hendrix, and their fan base was young 'teeny boppers'.

Check out the song Oh, Thank You Great Spirit, a song Terry wrote as a tribute to his friend Jimi, check out the song Jenny as well both done as a three piece band ‘he was such a great musician.

@@royrush5374 No, they were not "fabricated" simply because they were initially put together for a TV show. They were real actors and musicians. When they went on tour they played their own instruments and sang their own vocals. As for not writing their own music, the early Beatles, Stones, Who, Hendrix also did yot write their own stuff. And they all had dozens of session musicians playing on their albums. All these groups were creations of managers and marketing professionals.

Exactly! The Jimi Hendrix Experience was formed by Chas Chandler, Jimi's manager. Hendix's first hit Hey Joe wasn't written by him either. the song also included female backup singers, Too! Electric Ladyland had others outside the group play on that album. Dave Mason, Buddy Miles, Steve Woodwind and more. The Beatles had an entire orchestra behind them.

I happen to love the Monkees. Im well aware that their songs were written by great artists like Neil Diamond, Neil Sedaka, Carrol King, Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart. But Michael Nesmith wrote all of his songs and played them. They were on every Monkee album. Peter Tork was a musician who plyed various instrument proficiently like Michael. Mickey learned how to play drums as wel as Davy, who also played guitar, piano, and drums. They all could sing great and they together, had a very special and magical vibe that's one of the greatest. I would choose the Monkees over Jimi any day of the week. Jimi was just ticked off because he had to open for them, or, was it, he left the stage because the audience was Jonesing for the Monkees and they finished for him. Can't remember which what happened, but one or the other did happen. The show may have been a bit too goofy at times, but the music was and is still great.

    • @joeacker703
      @joeacker703 3 месяца назад +2

You are correct he opened for them. Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork saw him at Monteray and invited him to open for them (it was his first tour of the US) The Monkees had just fought for their musical independance and felt maybe Jimi would help them be taken seriously. But their fans were mostly young girls and their mothers who would be disturbed by Jimi's performance and would cry "we want Davy" after about 7 shows he got sick of it and flipped the audience off and quit the tour. But he and The Monkees themselves became friends during that time. Jimi was supportive of Mike's first solo album shortly before he died. Everything you said was true I was just adding to it.

Bob Dylan has said in several different interviews over the years that in early 1964 when The Beatles first came to America, he was taking a long car trip and he was listening to the radio and he noticed that many of the hit songs were by The Beatles.
And he said that their chords were outrageous, just outrageous and their harmonies made it all valid. He also said that they were doing things musically that nobody else was doing and that he knew that they were not going to be a passing fad and that they were taking music in the direction it had to go.

It's disappointing that Hendrix couldn't figure out the Monkees. The Monkees never claimed they were master musicians. However, like most successful pop groups of the day, they used hired studio musicians to record their music. It's not that they couldn't play thier own instruments which they did, but hiring studio musicians was more time efficient. While it may take the Monkees several takes to record a song, studio musicians could just bust it out a lot quicker. Not only did the Monkees produce top notch pop records, but they also had a television series, to deal with too. In addition, the Monkees did have something to offer besides great pop tunes. They were the first to create Country Rock due to Michael Nesmith. (Sweet Young Thing written by Michael Nesmith) They were also the first band to use a moog synthesizer on record.(Daily Nightly, another Nesmith composition) Pretty snobbish of Hendrix to not recognize how the Monkees made a lot of loyal fans happy (including me)
