I discovered him from a random facebook video about a year ago, and his album, Fathers Son, has been on repeat everywhere I go. He's absolutely incredible.
Best statement I've read in a long time....bravo sir. Perfect example is that prick from one direction who abused staff and smashed a hotel room up high on drugs then fell off balcony....the next week 3 of their songs back in UK charts...makes me sick
I'm a 53 year old man, I love music, have done since I was small. This song made me cry...NEVER...has a song made me think about my life, my relationship with songs, how they attach to a memory. This song made me think about my whole life and every person that I have loved and lost and those I still have. WOW
I am a 53 year old woman and I saw this and felt exactly the same way. I started crying before I even understood why. I have been crying and listening to it for an hour. It is almost like a prayer😂
When you finally release this track, it needs to be this recording. This one right here. Don't give in to the temptation to add, or take away, or touch it up a little here and there. What you have captured here in this moment is so special, and so rare, that it cannot be adequately articulated. It is enough to say that it is absolutely perfect. And every person here with ears knows it. You release this one, just like it is, and that'll be it. This song is immortal. The world just doesn't know it yet. And what an honor to have seen it drop on the first day. Cheers.
Umm listen funny tell the man what to do. Shame on yourself. You mean to tell me you just showed up to this man's talent and you know EVERYTHING he needs to do now you just showed up?!? Think about your sentences before you post
Right? Music has always had a huge impact on me. Its one of the reasons i love to play instruments. The right sounds hit me right in the feels. This song absolutely flatted me. Like you said it might be the best song I've ever heard. Its so perfect.
I love music, I have a very eclectic taste, I often like to think what the soundtrack to my life would be. This is the song that sums up my quest for my soundtrack
Nope. Just discovered it tonight and have already listened probably a dozen times. It might be my new favorite song of all-time after a 20 year streak with another.
Been in the music business 40 years. Played live TV, radio, festivals and many many shows as a guitarist in a band. For me; this guy has been the best thing I've ever heard to date.
100 % agree...especially when other musicians as yourself gives a man credit. Haven't cried since my mother left in 18. I'm 64 and after father- son and this tune played i left my wife on the porch and went to restroom to shed tears ( for like the 3rd freakin time lol ). Anyway, thank you for feeling the same for his talent. Peace
My dad is 85 and his health is fading. I don’t have much longer with him and this song moves me more than words can say. To all of you out there that are missing your dads, my heart goes out to you.
Praying for you this evening, Cody. Me and my ol lady both. We may not know exactly what to pray for, but we are praying God puts his hands over you and your family thru these trialing times. Much love, and God bless, my friend.
Cherish every moment. I lost mine when I was 29. He was 49. Almost 7 years ago now, just discovered Stephen Wilson Jr. Man these songs get me. Miss my dad every day. Guh.
I'm a city boy from Chicago. Both parents came here from Europe, and im planning on moving to Montana, Whitefish area. I'm told living there is peace you can't find here in Chicago...
I’m the show in San Antonio, middle of the rodeo And daddy’s hands that you used to hold when you walked back to the car I’m a sound of the county fair, Ferris wheel kisses high up in the air A sip of brandy when your soul is bare, and you need to share your heart. I’m the words that’ll hit ya; it’ll get ya where you're going so you never go there alone I’m the melody glued to the memory that you can’t shake when it comes on I’m the part of you that you listen to, riding in the radio all night long. I’m A Song oh oh oh oh I’m A Song oh oh oh oh I was there the day you learned to drive - the first time that you got high. I even helped you realize that she wasn’t right for you. You fall down, I pick you up again helped a boy become a man. When your best friend died, I helped you cry and finally turned him loose. I’m the words that’ll hit ya; it’ll get ya where you're going so you never go there alone. I’m the melody glued to the memory that you can’t shake when it comes on I’m the part of you that you listen, riding in the radio all night long. This ripped me apart, shambles on the way to work, had to put my glasses on, and they covered nothing. Right in my soul you got me brother, beautiful in every way. Had to call my Dad to tell him I love him in ways I should say more . 45 minute commute just let it play on repeat.
That might be the best GD performance I’ve ever seen. There’s the fact that he’s the song writer. As well as his incredible guitar playing. And then his distinctive and incredibly voice. Amazing.
Don't Fear the Reaper by the Blue Oyster Cult has always sat in no. 1 for me. And now I don't know. This song is right beside it. Wouldn't be able to pick right now.
I lost my dad two years ago suddenly and unexpectedly as he walked to dinner. I have struggled with my grief as I have worked full time and earned my masters part time and launched his two wholly loved grandkids into college. Thank you for sharing this song with the masses. It will live with me forever and I am so grateful for your vulnerability in sharing it with us. So amazingly beautiful and I know your dad is right there with you.
As soon as I heard this, I went to my room, put my headphones on and lay on my bed with the lights off, eyes closed and just listened. I felt this song more than I heard it. What an incredibly thought evoking piece of music

As a musician. This guy single handedly has inspired me to put more of my soul in my music. I've been trying to fit a mold and fuck that, this guy is playing from his soul and I should be doing the same
@carlhewitt7460 yeah he seems to be in different variations of drop C and open C a lot. He also Capos some of them. I've had ti improvise to kind of play them my own way because I can't yet pin down what he's actually doing
Your father is beyond proud of you Stephen. He’s smiling down every time this song is played. Over and over. He is your song and you are his amazing son!
Stephen Wilson Jr doesn’t just play music; he channels raw human emotion in a way that feels like he’s writing the soundtrack to our souls. This is more than a song-it’s an experience that echoes in the spaces where words usually fail.
Being a retired musician and drummer where music has been my life. This song strums on all of my heart strings. I’ve lost all of my immediate family to death (starting at age 12) all through my whole life. Music has been my passion, my friend, my healer, my coping mechanism, my comfort, my therapist and my family…. It’s my DNA. This artist here is an angel sent from up above sharing another message with us and we must listen. Thank you SW JR. for being exactly who you are with your love and talent. The world could use a few more artists like you.
He sounds like if you brought back one of the greats from the 60s or 70s. Such a legendary timeless voice. Glad I stumbled upon this video. Hope he gets the recognition he deserves.
The vulnerability when he says "he said it was his favorite song e-ever...". Then proceeds to make it my favorite song ever. Never has a performance/song/artist blown me away like this!
Lost mine in 2017. Hearing him say "It was my Dad's favorite song of mine He told me it was his favorite song ever" just brought back all of the times my Dad was supportive of me and my interests. Good Dads kick ass.
My best friend died on October 7th of last year and shortly after I discovered this man's music. I wasn't able to grieve until then. I'm also touched by his being raised by a single father as I am a single father with a beautiful almost 6 year old boy. Thank you SWJ.
This guy loved his Dad. You know we forget sometimes. I was adopted at a young age by my father. I love him more than he will ever know. I’m 45 been my dad for 40 years might as well have been 45. You realize when ever Oder sacrifices parents make for you
I started to learn guitar a little over a year ago. My guitar anniversary is coming up. After a tipi ceremony I looked to my right a woman holding her son’s guitar. They asked me to play it in the morning. The action on it was way off but some how I was able to play something beautiful. Tipi energy. lol but hey Stephen I lost my father and finally I have had the courage to learn to find my voice. To play. To always play for my heart but one day I pray that the journey guides me to meeting you. Everything you are doing is raw, beautiful and how music should be. Stay humble. Stay in prayer because I already know where you’re going. All the love to you. Who knows if you will get this comment but spirit was telling me to write it.. for whoever needs to read this.. we are here to create our sound to heal the world.. so if I never get on stage I pray I have 50 plus years to play because I’m finally home behind the strings. My dad has played for me all my life… the guitar I picked sounded just like his. Close to it. You are a song something the world and music industry has needed back for a long time.
Buddy. This is one of those songs that you just don’t write. It pours out. I’ve listened to most of your songs. This is my favorite. Don’t stop. Not like you can help it anyway.
I feel a love beyond words - to know that this song has affected other people like it did me. I’ve made everyone I know listen to it and nobody had my reaction- then I decided to read the comments, which I have never done before. I wish we were all sitting in a small bar, listening to him right now. ❤❤❤
I'm sitting here fully exposed. This is why I put all of my faith in music years ago when I didn't know shit as a teenager. And why I'm still faithfull now almost 50. "I'm the words that'll hit you, that'll get you where you're goin' so you never go there alone. I'm a melody glued to the memory that you can't shake when it comes on. I'm the part of you that you listen to ridin' to the radio all night long. I'm a song." Tattoo my fuckin' soul man...
Sometimes a moment of magic occurs on the Internet and you come along a song that you fall in love with. As a matter of fact it’s right here right now for me ⭐️
This song had me at first chord -and made me cry at “ made you realize she wasn’t right for you “ … I’m the words that will get ya that will hit ya so you never go there alone “ Wow - best song ever recorded - this is the human soul in music
I love that his soul transcends his obvious roots and creates something so beautiful and unique. Haunting, humbling and educates you emotionally. This man is a treasure.
This song is why "I'm a Song" is a song and I've been ugly crying for an hour and hope to for years to come. Thank you for writing this absolute gem. Absolutely beautiful. Any music lover will be shook by this... Outstanding in every way. Your dad had incredible taste. This is everything. ❤
Good dads are hard to come by. My 19 yr old was alienated from me. Now she believes that I don’t want to be in her life. 😔 Her mother committed paternity fraud. I just found out it was all lies. 19 years of being deceived. 19 years lost. This mans music brings me the peace I need.
Every now and then you come across someone you never knew existed and are completely blown away by them.
Just found him today. Damn . It's like discovering something you never knew you desperately needed
Had. No. Idea. Made my heart
Seriously started with his cover of stand by me and now I've binge listened to this song
His cover on Stand by me is amazing! He did on this show. It’s very emotional.
I discovered him from a random facebook video about a year ago, and his album, Fathers Son, has been on repeat everywhere I go. He's absolutely incredible.
Please release this EXACTLY like this. Don't let the producers do anything to it. This is as perfect and broken as music gets. Thank you.
it's too bad what the producers did to the studio version of 1994
Well said 👍🏻
@SeanGibson-n2w good luck AI. Music comes from the soul, at least music like this
Producers would screw it up for sure.
This exact video gets pulled up for youtube music playlists.
We make the wrong people famous
Best statement I've read in a long time....bravo sir. Perfect example is that prick from one direction who abused staff and smashed a hotel room up high on drugs then fell off balcony....the next week 3 of their songs back in UK charts...makes me sick
So let us support! 😊🍀
Perfectly said.
Amen.
Nooooo the right people don't want to be famous.
"We have a song that's not released.."
- Plays one of the best songs ever written.
This guy deserves nothing but success.
The success will never fill the hole where this song comes from but I hope it eases his pain , what a song
I'm a 53 year old man, I love music, have done since I was small. This song made me cry...NEVER...has a song made me think about my life, my relationship with songs, how they attach to a memory. Once in a while you hear someone sing and wish you found them years ago. This is that moment.
Same for me
I felt the same way
him and the red clay strays are the best in the world right now
don't worry, we're actually early!
But you weren’t too late
Trust me - this will be viewed by MILLIONS of people.. at the moment let's just appreciate that we witnessed it before the world did
Ain't that the truth
So true. Just listen to every single one of his songs and I can't find one that I don't absolutely love.
I second this motion!
I’ve been following Stephen for a while almost a year and it just get more amazing . Love this guys message
Just bought tickets to see him in Philly!!

Umm listen funny tell the man what to do. Shame on yourself.
You mean to tell me you just showed up to this man's talent and you know EVERYTHING he needs to do now you just showed up?!? Think about your sentences before you post

Agreed
Let's just see how it goes in the studio.
Could be even better
This might be the best song I've ever heard in my life.
I am with you! I can't stop listening to it. I shared it publicly and said the same thing. What a gift!
Right? Music has always had a huge impact on me. Its one of the reasons i love to play instruments. The right sounds hit me right in the feels. This song absolutely flatted me. Like you said it might be the best song I've ever heard. Its so perfect.

I’ve listen to this at least 30 times. He’s an absolute treasure of a human being.
I love music, I have a very eclectic taste, I often like to think what the soundtrack to my life would be. This is the song that sums up my quest for my soundtrack
I dont think im the only one listening to this on repeat
Nope. Just discovered it tonight and have already listened probably a dozen times. It might be my new favorite song of all-time after a 20 year streak with another.
“I’m the melody glued to the memory that you can’t shake when it comes on” shooooooo
Tough
Fuck me....this hits hard😢
This one. This one right here.
That hits ….
insane bar.
This guy is at an elite level of talent that threatens all the bubblegum and trash that gets pushed onto us by recording executives.
Amen brother!
Thats why i don’t listen to mainstream music. . . This man is exactly why i don’t listen to mainstream crap.

“I told him, no I don’t do that, so…I’m gonna do that” is so fucking powerful
Dude its in deed this guy tore open parts of me i dint existed and sew them back together neatly
Powerfull song brother
fuck yeah, i fucking love the way he fucking said that, this guy fucking fucks, holy fuck
What a privilege the host must’ve felt listening to this in person
Yeah the host look says it all
Just watch him anytime Steven is singing. He never looks away and is clearly soaking it in with amazement.
The host kind of reminds me of Tyler Sheridan. Thought he may have struck more gold finding Stephen.
This is what most country songs wish they were
Real Country
That's almost indie-folk. It sounds like a mix of Appalachian folk, indie-rock and alt-country
This isnt country.
My dad is 85 and his health is fading. I don’t have much longer with him and this song moves me more than words can say. To all of you out there that are missing your dads, my heart goes out to you.

I love this comment
What
💯 just raw talent, unfiltered
Good that it is only words - this comment ... otherwise it could be better than the song itself :))
I hope he knows that the world is more beautiful for this. I'm so glad he decided "I'm gonna do that."
If you're listening to this, you're my people!
Word!
lets all join a club together!
Laying in bed in my semi truck in montana. this version of this song has literally changed my life. God bless you sir
Thanks for keeping the country moving, brother. America couldn't be what it is without truckers. Drive safe out there.
That’s a song.

Stephen Wilson Jr will be a huge star. We all are lucky to see how it began - and discover the songs before they were.
How did it begin ?
I hope he doesn't become a huge star and be watered down by the cancer that is modern society. He's better than that. Pop music cosuming sheep do not deserve him and will never discover his truth telling. Too raw and too real for sheep consumption.

Who else is here because Dan Patrick and Seton were raving about this song? They were right! Incredible!
When Seton says it’s one of the best songs he’s ever heard, I immediately had to check it
Grand tune! Still love Underdogs from a few years ago.
Googled him as soon as the show went to break and was like, YES! Absolutely blown away. When Seton said it was maybe his favorite song ever I was like "ever?!" I get it now.
Patrick put me on this, Awesome
I found put about this guy because of my FAVORITE sports talk show... yes sir
Man, I’m blown away. What an amazing song. Perfection just as it is. Crazy thing is I’m not even a country music fan.
If you are here listening to this, you are a legend! Real music for Real people, big ups from downunder.. somewhere is Aus ❤
"When your best friend died, I helped you cry, and finally turn him loose" That hit home. I lost my best friend at the age of 34 to cancer.
I'm sorry, friend....
Same, bro. I lost my best friend and older brother in 2018 at the drop of a dime and I've never had the words to describe it but Stephen found them
I was 16. I never really got over his suicide. This hit me hard.
Lost mine at 21 after being best friends since the first grade. I hope this song helps heal you. 💜

The vulnerability when he says "he said it was his favorite song e-ever...".
Then proceeds to make it my favorite song ever. Never has a performance/song/artist blown me away like this!
Whoever live mixes your sound deserves a massive raise
It's that good live brother, but I agree!!!
How the hell does he hit that note with his mouth hardly open?! The pipes on this man ❤
Not that many songs make me weep...this one did just that. Lost my Dad back in 2015.
Me too. I lost my dad this August 2024 😢
Lost mine in 2017. Hearing him say "It was my Dad's favorite song of mine He told me it was his favorite song ever" just brought back all of the times my Dad was supportive of me and my interests. Good Dads kick ass.
I’m a Song is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard. Thank you for sharing it.
My best friend died on October 7th of last year and shortly after I discovered this man's music. I wasn't able to grieve until then. I'm also touched by his being raised by a single father as I am a single father with a beautiful almost 6 year old boy. Thank you SWJ.
I think this is the best song I have ever heard..
Played on repeat over and over and constantly crying. I will be buried to this song. So powerful. God bless you stephen
I did the same 😅 it reminds me of every song I’ve ever cried to or got me through a tough time
"No, I don't do that. So I'm gonna do that." And we are sooo fuking happy he did 🔥💥❤️
It’s a shame how some incredibly gifted people don’t get the recognition or credit they deserve. Hopefully it happens very soon for Stephen. So good!
This song has made me feel everything all at once. Nothing compares to it. Your writing is intensely emotive for such a very humble man. Wow.
This is literally one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.
You can feel his father’s presence in the way he plays, he’s convicted to do the very best he can for his father.
This guy loved his Dad. You know we forget sometimes. I was adopted at a young age by my father. I love him more than he will ever know. I’m 45 been my dad for 40 years might as well have been 45. You realize when ever Oder sacrifices parents make for you
My son sent me this, said I’ve been listening to a song reminds me of you mum, I was having one of the worst days it meant everything to me
I’m hearing you as mine sent me the father and son song and I have to agree , hit me bigtime
That was beautiful man. Spoke volumes to me. Especially we are here to create our sound to heal the world. That was from Him. Bless you my friend
This is just incredible and is instantly among my favourites songs of all time.
Its never been easier to support niche artists like this, vote with your feet and your ears if this is what you want more of.
Same here ✊
I listen to this song every day since I heard it! ❤😢❤😢❤😢
As a matter of fact it’s right here right now for me ⭐️
Ditto that
X2 same here
My dad recently passed and I miss him beyond words. Thank you for this song Steven! He would’ve loved it!
Have u heard him do My Father's Son? it is on his album.
This guy is on another level. A level that nobody else is on. God dam hes good!!
I can't stop listening to this song.. its absolutely amazing. It hits so hard. This guy is the best I've heard possibly 😢
This song had me at first chord -and made me cry at “ made you realize she wasn’t right for you “ … I’m the words that will get ya that will hit ya so you never go there alone “
Wow - best song ever recorded - this is the human soul in music
Wow, what a beautiful song. We need an album of just him and his guitar.
Also, when he hits his higher register, there’s some Chris Cornell.
Your dad was right. It is the best song ever.
I love that his soul transcends his obvious roots and creates something so beautiful and unique. Haunting, humbling and educates you emotionally. This man is a treasure.
Well said so true 👍
This guy is my absolute favorite these days. What a song, what a talent. God bless you Stephen 🙏
I'm gonna do that....thank God. Thank you for blessing everyone with your sharing of your talents.
This falls under my favorite genre of music...music about music
This song is why "I'm a Song" is a song and I've been ugly crying for an hour and hope to for years to come. Thank you for writing this absolute gem. Absolutely beautiful. Any music lover will be shook by this... Outstanding in every way. Your dad had incredible taste. This is everything. ❤
Ugly crying is the only true crying
That transition at 2:29 is absolutely 🔥.
Any Dad would be proud with a song like that 🙌🏽
Good dads are hard to come by.
My 19 yr old was alienated from me.
Now she believes that I don’t want to be in her life. 😔
Her mother committed paternity fraud. I just found out it was all lies.
19 years of being deceived.
19 years lost.
This mans music brings me the peace I need.
Best song according to dad. Lovely compliment. Rip Wilson Sr.
How am I just finding this fella now.. saved saved saved
Stephen Wilson Jr. will be a household name. Keep the fire burning.
I think Stephen Wilson jr is a living legend imo great artist ❤️🙌👏
I never knew Steven Wilson Jr. existed last week. Know I’m thankful I do. We’re in the midst of greatness.
