Here’s some background on hatchery fish: The person I was fishing with is responsible for managing the steelhead population. Hatchery fish are specifically bred for recreational anglers and are intended to be removed from the ecosystem. This management strategy helps prevent them from interbreeding with the dwindling wild steelhead population, preserving the genetic integrity of the wild fish. This is why we practiced a "catch and cook" on this trip
Hey Allison. Civilizations throughout the ages have eaten fish. You should watch something else if you're offended. Maybe you can even go murder some tofu cakes while doing it!
Hatchery fish are put there for the very purpose of giving anglers a chance to take home and enjoy a Steelhead without taking away from the wild population. If that was a wild Steelhead sure it's better to release it but don't bitch about someone legally keeping a Hatchery fish
Congratulations Dan. Nice catch. Great to see your enthusiasm after all your years of fishing.
Thanks! I hope I never lose that either! Love that dopamine rush when playing a fish

What weight rod was you using?
I was using my SRC6 (6wt) ultra fast action I built for the local Sea-run Cutthroat - I was impressed with its handling power!
@FlyFishDan it looks really good
Great job nice fish. Next time don’t show it dying and getting cooked.

Allison. It’s a natural thing to do unlike catch and release. 👍🇦🇺😍🎣
