- During a Live Q&A maybe a year ago I asked Adam this question. i already knew the answer, but I asked so that you would know too (I was getting tired of the misinformation that was spreading).
I asked Joel the same question in 2007, and he said exactly what Adam says in this video. Neither of their stories ever changed.
Shout out to everyone who got the facts wrong for 17 years - you helped keep the price of Framus Dragons low on the used market. ;)

Shout out to everyone who got the facts wrong since 2004- you helped keep the price of Framus Dragons low on the used market. ;) those of you who own a revision 2 or rev 3 dragon know just how awesome those amps are.
I owned Joel’s dragon head that may have been used on the record and in the rose of sharyn music video for years and that amp was fucking siiiiick.
For next Q&A --> which tubes were in the Dragon 😅
This is amazing!
funny thing about the RoS music video, i bought a dragon because it was in the video and i loved the tone. i did end up purchasing a cobra as well but lol.
Adam and Andy did a great job at making the cobra sound a lot like the Dragon in the recording and mixing stage. My friend now owns the Cobra that Adam used on all of those records. Adam still owns at least a dragon, Joel owns at least one Dragon (the one off the record probably), and the other Dragon Joel had was mine for a little while and I sold it on to a trusted KsE fan. I'm pretty sure all of the dragons and cobras they had were from 2002.
@@snapascrew ah, that makes sense. I appreciate the backstory and that’s a lucky kse fan!
I’m not certain what generation my framus’s are but I purchased them both used off of eBay around 05’.
@@thehermanliif your amps have Bias test points on the rear they’re not the KsE amps
This is what I needed
Yeah, my Dragon blew up as well 😞. Sounded great though while it lasted... 🙂
This is so cool. I wish I found your channel ahead of this live q/a! I would LOVE to have asked about the parkway drive horizons guitar tone. Is there a link to the full q/an anywhere or was it a private sesh?
I believe this was from metal blades RUclips channel. Should be public, and easy to find, but this was the only question asked about guitar tone. The rest was just normal interview stuff.
Killing with a smile was a 5150 on its own (green channel actually)
Horizons was red channel of 5150 blended with framus cobra lead channel.
@@snapascrew doing gods work and just earned my sub for that direct answer to my incredibly eccentric question. Thank you 🙏 that’s what I was able to dig up as well, good to have that validation! Now.. to find a way to achieve that sound in the axefx modeling ecosystem 🥲
@@robswetts4889 hit me up on instagram @blairbondysoundengineer and I’ll send you a pic from horizon recording session of Adam and parkway.
@@snapascrew I can’t reply to the messages but I received. That’s such an awesome piece of history! Thank you so much for sharing!
Sheeit, thx for this clip. Looks like I had my info wrong as well 😅
Great info man. Do you know what guitars (pickups, strings etc) they used? And did Adam just track the ryth or did both?
There’s footage of Joel using his purple custom shop caparison Angelus guitar but that’s all we really know. I believe their policy is generally who ever wrote the riff plays it. They quad tracked that albums rhythms so I doubt they each played a part, who ever wrote it probably played it 4 times. That Angelus guitar had an EMG 85 in the bridge position. It was made from mahogany with an ebony fingerboard and a quilted maple top. I believe they endorsed DR tite fit strings back then. Main rhythms were 2 takes 5150, 2 takes dragon. Don’t know what the lead overdubs were but probably a dual rec or Adam’s 2205 Jcm 800 but it honestly could have been a ton of different things.
@@snapascrew awesome thanks
Hey man, I saw the list of equipment they used on this album a few days ago, it was in the description, but I don't see it anymore. Do you know the entire list and what was in the chains? Thanks man!
Hey! So what Joel told me was that they quad tracked the main rhythms. so 4 actual performances of everything. 2 L, 2 R (panning idk about). Each side has a performance of 5150 and Dragon. They were both boosted with a maxon or tube screamer.
The 5150 was connected to a VHT fatbottom 4x12 (with P50E speakers).
The dragon was connected to a mesa traditional rectifier 4x12 (with v30's).
The majority of what we hear on the record is the SM57 and then an AKG c3000 was blended in a little. That mic has since been renamed and released and it's kind of hard to follow what's going on with that but I believe it was an original AKG c3000 seeing as the record was recorded in 2003 (idk when they started re-releasing and renaming that friggen mic tho. hella confusing.)
Before I sold Joel's old dragon I was shopping for the VHT cab because I wanted to run my dragon and 5150 in stereo both through their respective "end of heartache cabs" but they're hard to find on the used market. Even the Fryettes are... ya just gotta buy em new usually. I believe the VHT cab has the P50E's front loaded so it sounds brighter than most other cabs.... or maybe darker please don't quote me on that last part.
I don't know if that VHT is still Adam's go to cab for the 5150 or if it's just something he bounces back and forth from. I honestly don't even know what cabinet he uses these days mostly.
Jesus, man i knew Adam was tough in the studio, but 4 takes per side lol. I thought double tracking was bad! 🤣😅. Thanks for the info again sir! Per usual you're more knowledgeable than 75% of the Killswitch Fans on gear
@@mrwooten3618 2 takes per side, for a total of 4. I’m about to upload a video right now just for you that no one has ever seen. I guarantee you’ll be smiling throughout the entire thing. It’s extra footage from my Joel interview/zoom call. I’m editing it right now.🎉
@@snapascrew !!!!!! Bro I'm stupid excited right now already!!! I'm smiling and haven't even seen it yet!! You literally got to do the one thing I've wanted to do for years with the guys from Killswitch, just sit and talk about the albums and the gear they used to achieve their sounds! I can't wait to see it!!! Thanks a million!
@@mrwooten3618 anytime, it’s still uploading atm. Should be soon I hope.
Thanks for all the info. Can you confirm the clean guitars parts came from a Fender amp? (saw that on Gearlutz or something like that). Also On the end of the song (on the break ) there is a subtle acoustic guitar merged with (lot of) reverb. Any info about that? Thanks
Can’t confirm. All that I know is Adams been mentioning a vibrolux in interviews for years now across different albums. Also could be an amp sim. Dunno. Acoustic guitar stuff is also nothing I’ve ever gotten any hard facts on but I know Adam had a few Takamine guitars he loves, maybe it’s one of those. Adam did go to the UK to mix it with Sneap tho so who knows maybe that acoustic wasn’t originally there and they added it in during mixing last minute. So hard to say.
@@snapascrew Thanks for the answers. Great channel keep the good work.
What interview is this from?
Metal blade interview. It can be found on their page or killswitchs page. If you search Adam Dutkiewicz metal blade you should be able to match the background. (It’s split screen).
