  • Hello lovely viewers. 🤍 Today, I wanted to share my frustration and be honest about my weight loss journey and growing up and struggling to be fat. I think it's harmful to not allow ourselves to talk candidly about our struggles, this includes a brief mention of past struggles with eating disorders (binge eating, etc.) If you are not in a place to hear anything about food, weight loss, and struggles around eating, food, and losing weight, etc. PLEASE DO NOT WATCH this video. And always take care of your mental, physical, and emotional health as best as you're able to. I love you. You got this. 💕

    Upon further research, eating 1200 calories is way too little of a deficit (and the Body mass index (BMI) can be misleading as it ignores multiple factors of a person's body). I personally do not calorie count, as I tried it for a week after this video and found it triggering in every way. Please make sure to consult with your doctors and nutritionists before making any significant dietary and lifestyle changes if needed. I made a follow-up video about calorie counting and why it was harmful and unrealistic for ME. Love you all, be safe. ♥

    The clothes not fitting hits hard. And then everyone says “wear clothes your size then” like I don’t wanna buy new clothes because I can’t stop stuffing my face. I want the money I already spent to be used correctly. I also struggle to find clothes that fit since I’m not big enough for plus sized but I’m too big for normal clothes. It’s not okay to tell me to size up. No there’s no sizes up from here.

      Yes, I bought an all new wardrobe last year and I can’t afford to do it again. I’m not technically overweight but I’ve gained a ton due to many factors that are completely my fault. I get so frustrated when people are like “well you needed to gain a little weight,” as if my weight gain is healthy. It’s not. It’s due to binge eating, alcohol abuse, poor food choices and no exercise at all. I don’t feel good and I want my clothes to fit. I gave up drinking but my diet needs to be changed and improved a lot.

    The key is not to diet. It's to change your lifestyle to something you can sustain for the rest of your life. The weight might fall off slower but you will have such a better relationship with food and exercise. You have your whole life to figure out what works for you, so don't pressure yourself to lose weight quickly. For context I've lost 85 lbs and have kept it off for 8 years. Slow and steady wins the race.

I also happen to have BPD and ADHD and I let myself go too easily from when I was actually proud of my appearence, so now I'm struggling really hard to even be able to look at myself in the mirror. Girl I’m Arabic. It’s so hard to stay in a calorie deficit in the SLIGHTEST because of the food I am constantly surrounded by. Oil, rice, potatoes, fatty meat, and it is damn near impossible to even try and think about macro tracking. Shits too hard, I would give up within days. But I’ve recently began to buy my own diet foods and researching about nutrition and what MY body needs to function but also lose weight for the better. I hope you can get to your goal love u girl ❤

      Don’t count calories n only track protein.
      1. Try to eat as little as possible of processed foods.
      2. Whatever your goal weight is, is what you want to eat in grams of protein ie 130lbs goal weight would be 130g of protein per day.
      Just following those two guidelines will help you lose weight cuz most processed foods are garbage/simple carbs that turn into fat after digestion n protein sources are whole foods that aren’t garbage/simple carbs.

    I feel this in my SOUL. At 2:20 I was screaming because that is ME! 10 years ago I lost so much weight and though I had another roughly 20lbs to go I was almost done and loving life. I went on my very first date, I wore clothes I actually loved and felt confident in. Then I gain 70+ lbs over a span of 10 years and now I'm 245lbs at 5'4 and miserable. Everything hurts and I'm having a hard time being confident and happy when I look like an apple. I agree that my desire to be thin is probably partly because of society's beauty standards blah blah. But also I wasn't suffering all this pain and health issues at 150lbs.

      Same for me 😢, the only difference between our situation is the height. I got married and even more weight piled on bc of constantly eating out. I’ve tried so hard to be confident in my body but it’s not working. I even purchased clothes that fit my new body and still felt uncomfortable. Either the other girls are lying or they’re mentally stronger than me. I can be honest and say apart of me wants to lose the weight for aesthetic reasons but more importantly, about a month ago the weight related health issues started so I decided I’m tired of being fat as well and started the weight loss journey again. So far I’m down 10 pounds and am being sure to do what is sustainable for my lifestyle.

As long as you’re not bullying others, which you aren’t, there is NOTHING wrong with speaking about how difficult it is being fat. Thank you so very much for speaking my mind out loud! I’ve been struggling with my weight since birth. At 10 yrs old, I was weighted 200lbs, I had my own nutritionist and was told to only eat salad, some meat, basically a keto diet. Kept up with that diet until I was 13 yrs old (160lbs), my parents started buying a non nutritional foods and I gained the weight back. I was frustrated because I did enjoy making my own food and feeling good after eating and playing outside.
    Then of course having the weight back, I was bullied for my weight by my own family. They thought that I was eating a lot but it was the food options I only had. I worked so hard to get back to 160lbs with the junk food we had and vitamins and I finally did when I was in high school. I ain’t going to lie, I wish I could go back to being that disciplined with my own body and lifestyle. Now it’s been tough especially after my thyroid was removed. I am working on joining the military and this is the hardest weight loss journey and honestly Kettlebell workouts are my best friend since it has both cardio and strength. Eating healthy and fasting feels like it’s working until I’m in my period because I’ll start binge eating no matter how much protein and veggies I eat.
    I’ll stay consistent but when period comes I feel that I gained a lot and I’m not sure what to do because I’ve been told that it’s normal. I really hope we as women that always had weight problems find something that really works for us because this is really frustrating

I too grew up and lived in a household that didn't eat the healthiest most nutritional food but it seemed to affect me more and later on I developed BED as well. I think for so many average-skinny body people that don't struggle with food and weight give advice based on their own studies and bodies that can cause further damage to those with different body types, lifestyles, and abilities around food, control, and even working out. I hope your current journey will be fulfilling and easier than the previous journey (although I know and understand how hard it can be.) I am so grateful for you for opening up and commenting! ♥

  • @shelby1681
    @shelby1681 11 месяцев назад +48

    i totally get what you're saying and it sounds so similar to my internal monologue that i used to have with myself! i'm tired of hearing about how dieting = disordered eating. sometimes a little self-enforced control is necessary and healthy and a difficult change in our lives far exceeds the pain we feel knowing we need to make a change and "can't". it's great to take responsibility and know that you can do this despite feeling discouraged about our "toxic" food environment.
    i do think it would be more beneficial for you to lose the weight slower than 1 pound per week just because eating 1000-1200 calories is quiet low (especially if you want to increase your activity) and it can lead to binging and feeling bad about "failure" and ultimately set you back. Sticking to a more long-term mindset definitely helped me out a ton. If your maintenance is ~1800 i think trying to stick to 1400-1500 would be more realistic and doable and less likely to lead to your body revolting against your brain. though it's a slower process, you're talking about health for your entire life rather than quickly losing weight on a 1000-1200 calorie diet and going back to eating more "normally" and gaining that weight back.
    another thing about dropping our calories too low is that the weight we lose in a short-term diet like this will actually come from muscle loss rather than fat loss. muscle is our metabolically active tissue, it burns energy (calories) and therefore burns fat when we do appropriate calorie deficits and exercise. when we dont give our bodies enough fuel to maintain that tissue, it gets rid of it. this is what kills our metabolism (how much energy our muscles and organs use up just to maintain themselves). not to mention that running on ~1000 calories will see your energy levels plummet and you'll feel like hell the whole day and probably lack motivation to exercise. when we drop our calories, our body compensates by subconsciously adjusting our total daily energy expenditure so that we burn fewer calories throughout the day. the sleepiness we feel is our body asking us to keep still and rest so it can conserve the minimal amount of fuel you've given it. that's why so many people who lose weight ultimately gain it back :/ losing the tissue that burns calories plus the will to exercise while returning to a more natural/sustainable way of eating will lead our bodies to store additional calories as fat rather than be used as fuel for our muscles.
    initial dieting phases dont necessarily need to be "sustainable" (because we dont want to or need to be in a calorie deficit our entire lives! that's not good for us either) but the habits we build during those phases like increasing fiber intake, prioritizing protein and doing some movement/workouts to build and maintain our muscles should be sustained. sorry for this long long message i dont mean to be another of these annoying voices telling you the optimal/healthy way to lose weight, but i do hope this is a little helpful. whatever you choose to do i wish you lots of luck and long-term health

    • @sandrasshelf
      @sandrasshelf  11 месяцев назад +4

      Thank you so much for your thoughtful insights and sharing your experience!!! I do agree that initial "diets" can be great but lead to greater problems; physical, mental, and emotional. That's why sometimes I find it better to just do things slowly and figure it out and see how my body responds (not just weight loss but mentally, my energy levels, and if my bones ache/hurt/weaken too much.) I also think our bodies are incredibly smart and we can't outsmart them -- like you said -- diets are supposed to be temporary and are not the most 'sustainable' and our bodies want to keep us alive so we need to work with our bodies and not against (not moving, moving too much, too little food, too much food, too little/much of "good/bad" food, etc.) I appreciate your comment so much and hope others will read it too because it's very important and realistic. I still try to work A LOT on my 'disordered' mindset and eating habits as well as lifestyle habits. Thank you for not attacking me and being incredibly empathetic and helpful at once. Wishing you so much long-term health and happiness back to you ♥♥

    This was so real. I don’t understand the shame for people wanting to feel good. I went from 209 to 141 and now I’m 147. My goal is 125 though, I want to actually feel and be skinny. I like the slower .5-1 pound a week. However there has been times I wanted to drop more weight. I would say omad or eating 2 meals a day is easiest if you’re not active and your calories will be low like 1200/1300. It’s a huge amount of food if you eat it at once or in two nice sized meals.

    You're such an angel I can hear the frustration in your voice and I just want to give you a hug. I've dealt with EDs too and the longer they stick around the harder they are to kick. Dealing with aftermath is so strange because you don't see the food the same as everyone else so its next to impossible to go back to normal. One tip I would offer if you wanted it is about produce. You mentioned that you live in Canada and that you worry about the quality of the produce. You sounded so defeated and I just want to say that veggies with pesticides are still veggies, grass farmed proteins are still proteins, good food choices are still good food choices. You can get so upset thinking about how unfair things are and you are completely justified, but you doing the best for your body in no way is being discredited by not having the most expensive food. I sincerely hope you can come to peace on this journey

It's never really the same for us even after recovering but it does get better and that's what I remind myself of most days. And the goal is to come to peace around food. And I needed to hear what you said about it being still good food choices -- sometimes I just get too in my head about it, and I have to take a step back and accept that I can't control everything. Once again, thank you so much, you've given me something to think about and appreciate even. Sending a big hug to you 🥰

    I'm twenty eight years old. I was diagnosed with ADHD 2 years ago, and I related to everything you've said here. I have reached my goal weight in the past... and gained it back. I hate exercise, my ADHD makes food impossible, and my brain can't seem to commit to any longterm goals. One thing that blew my mind and has helped me get my life somwhat on track with food was from a Gabor Mate book (he specializes in ADHD and addiction, including food). He said that you have to start to be curious about yourself: WHY do you eat. Not just "because I'm bored", really start intercepting mentally when you have that urge to give up on your food goals or "just have a cheat day"-- what is food providing you emotionally that you don't have? Don't think about what it's taking from you (happiness, your dream body) but think about what it is giving you. Once you know that, it makes it easier to fix the root problem. The root problem isn't the food, it's the hole inside of us that makes us use it as a coping tool. Some people use work, or exercise to fill this hole, and it works for them because it's socially acceptable. But some of us turn to food, turn to drugs, turn to dangerous thrill-seeking. Once we can start to fix the trigger, the food gets a LOT easier to manage. Otherwise we are trying to take away something out brain is using to protect us, which is never going to work for long (it's funny to think about it that way, but it's just our brain soothing us in some way). I'm not "cured", but this REALLY helped me start to gain some more control.

      THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS. I mean it. I love Gabor Maté and I actually ordered that book on addiction and ADHD! I believe I have an addictive personality and at times when food takes the back seat, I gravitated towards other things in the past. It's something that I'm working through. And I know that sometimes I overeat and continuously snack because I'm dissatisfied, I failed on one goal and my brain seeks the comfort and reasurance of food (I know it's not healthy but it's a pattern I'm trying to work through with more mindfulness around eating and snaking and using food to supply for what I am avoiding to feel and uncover at times.) Thank you so much for sharing once again. I wish you so much strength and success in your journey!! ♥

      My advice if you want to get snatched, focus on eating high protein meals (it burns calories and preserves muscle- which is fat burning), go on a hot girl walk everyday if you can (45 mins, it feels so good physically and mentally) and try to workout at the gym to build muscle specifically 2-3x a week (muscle burns fat and makes you look really good, get as much muscle as you can especially in glutes/legs). Good luck! Stay hydrated

      I am 5’ 7” and weighed 190 pounds when I was 18. I wish I could go back to my younger self and have a pep talk. Work on cardio and just get little weights to have beside you on the couch. A bariatric Doctor told me that women benefit from arm strengthening because it helps us burn fat. (That was back in 2001 so I don’t know how accurate that is today) I’m cheering you on! By the way, the best way to hide belly fat is to make your torso look longer.

    Came from john’s channel. I just wanted to come and say that everything you said resonated with me. I’ve been where you’ve been and I truly believe it’s going to be okay for you. AND AND AND as a Canadian, I completely understand your frustration at the quality of our food and the mistrust of what it is and what’s in it. I would buy the bags of organic carrots because it was the only biologic thing I could afford and everything else was out of my reach. But, just focus on what you can manage. Get a Brita from the second hand store and start with that, and be glad that you’ve at least dealt with one thing. Also, Walmart has some very inexpensive frozen veggie options. Anyways, talking this out, and turning this over in your mind like this is hard work, so just keep up the hard work. You’re doing it. I can’t wait to watch an update ❤💪

    You sound SO much like me right now. I'm 166 pounds, I used to weigh 106 -120 when I was younger. People tell me ohh you aren't fat. Like you, yes I am. If someone CAN be healthy and be fat that's cool good for them. I am having sleep apnea, breathing problems, my organs are all being crushed on the daily bc most of my weight is in my stomach, my joints hurt, my lower back hurts from the belly fat, fatty liver, on top of that my blood work is starting to show the decline in my health due to the fat. I cant fit into my clothes, I feel and look disgusting compared to what I was. I get you girl. I am glad you are being open and honest about this. People need to stop glorifying being overweight. It truly affects physical health. Back in the day, everyone moved more and was thin and healthy and food was less processed.

    • @sandrasshelf
      @sandrasshelf  11 месяцев назад +3

      First off, thank you so much for sharing ♥ It's so hard to deal with the related problems with gaining weight. I've also noticed myself having joint pains, breathing problems, and overall bad mental clarity. I do agree we need to stop being overweight because it's harmful! I by no means am going to go around and fat shame people because I know what it's like and what it feels like! But I wish more people were open and honest about the issues surrounding massive weight gain and the fact that even when it's not our fault, we need the support and resources to get to a healthy weight (not necessarily super skinny but at least strive for healthier and fitter because I still hold the belief that all bodies are made differently.) I don't like glorifying fat as much as I don't like glorifying extra skinny bodies but I wouldn't tell an overweight or super skinny person that they're not healthy because it's up to them to check their vitals and monitor how they feel -- especially when many skinny people only eat processed too??? Which causes a whole ray of problems even if they look slim and have the "ideal" body. So, man oh man, I related to you. For me, being overweight is not worth it for my mental, physical, and emotional health. Wishing you the best of luck in your journey!!

    I was bulimic for 5 years, every way of recovery wasn't good for me: eating everything you want: i ended up bingeing and then purging again. I can't eat so much processed food: i have the bingeing mentality. I have to eat mostly whole foods to not activate something in my brain that tells me to eat more. I eat volumes of food. I eat 2400 more or less calories. That's because i have a veeery active lifestyle. I'm hitting the subscribe button, i want to be invested in your journey.

    I got to this point 10 years ago and started walking an hour every day. Eventually I started running, now I lift weight and run. It was a long process. I would suggest start with some strength training to build muscle because muscles help maintain your weight and help prevent injuries. Muscles are more dense so you'll look smaller even if you weigh the same. And you'll probably look better with better posture and confidence and kickass attitude. If I was to start again, I would have started in the weight room with full body compound lifting. Lifting has made all the difference in my life. Hope you find peace. ✌

    I see how overwhelmed you are. I’m sending love. I have ADHD, BPD, autism, long history of EDs. I’ve been in this place many times. I have many thoughts to share, all with kindness.
    Your body image is so understandable. You are not a bad person for struggling. Body image is so painful. It can feel like ur trapped.
    I know one thing: you cannot hate yourself into health. It doesn’t work. Kiana Docherty has a video on how to stop binge eating I highly recommend. “Alivia D’Andrea the ugly truth about self criticism.” It goes into science about how to be accountable without hating yourself.
    You said your metabolism is slow. After years of ED, this makes sense. They have done many studies on reduced metabolic rate after rapid weight loss or ED. It’s also common to cling onto carbs after electrolyte imbalances and metabolic damage. TDEE calculators are notoriously inaccurate. I know a slow metabolism (adaptive thermogenesis) is so frustrating. I promise 1200 calories or keto/low carb won’t heal that, but there is ways to heal that. I would highly recommend checking out Miss Fit and Nerdy’s channel. She does a lot of videos on reverse dieting and the science behind it.
    I also relate to how overwhelmed you feel. I can see how much you care. It’s so important to make slow small changes. We all want to change quickly, but it never sticks. And none of us can focus on everything at once. Maybe focus on more fruits and vegetables. Then focus on less processed foods. Find exercise you love (it doesn’t have to be the gym!) Etc. But it’s such a terrible cycle to aggressively attack with changes, then burn out. Health is about self care. I’ve found over and over that slow, consistent small changes make the best progress. You don’t have to do everything all now to make meaningful change.
    If there’s anything you take from this, I hope that you give yourself a little more kindness and compassion, like you would a friend going through the same thing. You would still urge them to change because you care about them. It’s not your fault, but it’s your responsibility. Stop focusing on what you should do and should be, focus on taking care of yourself so you can be well and healthy and thriving.
    Please let me know if you’d like us to message and talk further. Sending love.

I’m not sure what happened but during quarantine I gained SO MUCH weight and have managed to lose a tiny bit now but Carnot enough; I’ve tried it all😪, but I’m still fat, perhaps not obese fat but certainly way, way bigger than I’ve ever been. Every time I look in the mirror I say, “I hate being fat”… I’m so sad. I’m super short so the weight I gained looks double, maybe triple on my smaller frame. Anyway, I’m trying to do better. • @sandrasshelf
      @sandrasshelf  11 месяцев назад

      I can feel your discouragement and I just want you to know that you're not alone and we can and we will change. ♥ Lately I've been seeing less as restrict and binge and more like having a set time for certain things if that makes sense. As in eating normally between 10 am - 6 pm and not eating until 10 am and 6 pm the next day for example. Eating more food that are legumes so that we feel more full and happy in those hours we don't eat. Knowing that even if we eat something tasty that we can eat a little bit of it because we don't have to get rid of it forever and/or see ourselves as failing our 'diets' just because we had some pastries or something.
      You will do better but stop stressing about doing better (easier said than done trust me, you will see it on my channel, I'm so hard on myself which provokes the cycle further so instead of doing that I accept it and move on and stick with the program which is to eat healthier but still eat food i would consider 'binge food' but knowing that I don't want to see any food or food groups as binge food anymore. And that I can lose weight by making overall changes in my day to day life without being perfect! I hope this might help you a little bit?) ♥

    Girl, I feel you. I went through that around 2 weeks ago. I've been making changes in my life and it's helping a lot. I've always been the chubby child, I just loved food. Then in college i was the skinniest I've been but I was doing it in an unhealthy manner. It's been probably 8 years since then and I've finally built up the courage to weigh myself and start taking care myself.
    I'm so tired of clothes in shops not fitting my 'right'
    Also as a Lebanese person who is constantly surrounded by middle eastern food, it was near impossible to track my macros cuz everything is fattening xd. I knew that if i wanted to lose weight, I'm gonna have to start cooking for myself. I've been doing it thus far and it's completely changed my life. Don't forget that the act of cooking also burns calories so it's a win win situation

    "I don't know if you are North American, and I'm not diminishing anyone's responsibility for their own body, but North America makes it so difficult for people to lose weight or even just get good nutrition. I see many, many, many videos of influencers trying their absolute best every day just to get in shape, and many times at the cost of a normal life. Here in Brazil, many things are bad, but eating healthy is easy and not even that expensive.
    I had an exchange studentfrom USA in my class back in 2012 (Ben, if I'm not mistaken), and he lost like 66 lbs in 2 months here in Brazil. We were amazed listening to him saying how easy it was to lose weight without much effort here. Our food, in general, is very fresh; fast food is expensive as heck, and even our frozen foods are not a good financial option. Add this to the fact that playing some kind of sport is woven into our culture, and you have a very easy way to stay in shape here while eating pretty much anything you want.
    Of course, you can get obese here too, and we are even also getting fat in south america, but it's at least twice as hard to become obese here. Also, a woman being 'thick' is generally considered a good thing here, and most scientific research agrees.

    It’s part of being young. Just be patient with yourself, learn the foods that work for you/ those that don’t. Don’t buy foods you typically binge on but also allow like one day a month to treat yourself. But food for the month so you don’t go back to the store constantly and just love yourself as you grow, struggles come in different forms ❤️

    It feels like we’re living the same life. I’m a middle eastern college student (frequently stressed with school) living at home and being surrounded by my mom’s delicious food makes it very hard to stay on track, count calories, macros, etc. I was able to lose 30 pounds but now I’m stuck at a weight where I still have fat to lose but it’s significantly harder. Even if I’m in a slight deficit (my maintenance is also 1800) throughout the week, a social event on the weekend makes it so easy to fall off track and ruin the calories burned throughout the week. It’s so frustrating feeling like you count calories all the time just to not see any progress. My sister’s baby shower is tomorrow and I’m so stressed about feeling pretty in the dress and being careful not to binge on all the food that will be there. Everyone lectures me about self control and discipline but it truly does not feel that simple in the actual experience. I’m not sure how to find the balance but I am rooting for you! Thank you for making this video. It made me feel so seen.

      I'm so glad you felt seen. ♥ Thank you so much for sharing! After filming this video, I realized personally for me, calorie counting doesn't really help me and makes me stress too much about my weight and how I look even more because if you don't hit certain macros or calories you take out on yourself. I think calorie counting can be too restrictive mentally and physically. We sound so similar and I think the stress we put on ourselves is interfering with our hormones and therefore our weight loss as well. Eating healthier sometimes without calorie counting and stressing about calorie counting might help with the weight loss plateau?
      I hope you had a great time at your sister's baby shower and I know you were absolutely BEAUTIFUL regardless of weight and you will get where you want to be in the upcoming months. I am rooting as strongly for you as well. You got this! Please be kind to yourself as we learn and grow every day. 🥰♥

      @@sandrasshelf I was literally just talking about JUST THAT lol in my last video. Can we keep tabs on each other? I could use the accountability. One thing that makes me feel a bit better is knowing that nobody’s “weight loss journey” is a straight and narrow line. There will always be ebs and flows no matter what. Life is hard and we are all going through our own battles. But it’s refreshing to see I’m not alone in this when someone like you is being REAL about it.

    I totally feel you here on a lot of things you talked about. for me right now my fatness isnt even about how i look as much as it is about how i feel, tho i do also prefer when i am thinner and feel more at home in my body. im about 30-40 lbs over-weight (180 when i 'should be' around 140... im basing where i 'should be' off of the weight i always was in the past that i was able to comfortably maintain and felt like i was at my best at that weight without feeling like i was starving myself or restricting)
    right now i dont think i look HORRIBLE (i def am carrying extra weight but like im not hideous lol) but I also dont feel like i look like myself either as im used to seeing myself thinner. More importantly though, I feel very uncomfortable in my body. especially this summer carrying the extra weight i feel like i get sweaty and hot easier and its harder to wear nice loose airy clothing or like i used to wear really short shorts and tank tops or cropped tops in the summertime that now i feel like im rolling out of them even when i buy a size up proper size it just doesnt feel comfortable to wear them really... like that part is a little bit about 'the look' and aesthetics but again more about feeling uncomfortable (hard to describe but, like, the 'skin-on-skin' or bloated feeling of having extra rolls or love handle creases popping out.. that and just not feeling comfortable mentally either with having more skin showing cause for me at least when i have less rolls i feel like theres less skin on display and i dont feel like i have to be as modest.
    I have been trying to work on my weight for a few months now and i feel like i have toned up a bit but according to the scale have not lost any actual weight in lbs so i guess i need to keep working at it. (ive been trying to be more active and move my body more but i know for sure there are also some dietary improvements i need to make. i fell into some bad habits that i never used to have and now its hard to break them... my 'intuitive eating downfall' would be wanting to constantly eat too much icecream !
    i definitely get the frustration of weightloss not happening fast enough...and it being really hard to make changes and hold yourself to them. wishing us BOTH good luck for our future weight loss

    and the only thing I want to say it's, I'm so tired of my relationship with food. I'm so tired of my life going only around food and calories.
    there's only two moments on my life: when I'm binging and eating literally the whole world and gaining weight (I end up being miserable), and the moments when I'm restricting and losing weight hella fast (I'm miserable too cause I start to faint, I feel weak, I try to avoid parties/reunions with friends-family).

    Brave for this. Truth is that clothes look better on skinny healthy people. They just look better and are treated better. I always struggle with my weight cause I have hyperinsulinemia and gluten sensitivity. I love sweet foods, I love food in general. Ive had ED as well. I'm not overweight but I used to be for a year in the past. Now I just struggle with getting fatter during the winter and losing it in the summer. I feel like I always have to start over and I know I feel so good when I'm my perfect weight for my height! The best way for me to lose weight is to choose the right thoughts, not buying unhealthy foods, removing the temptation, detox from sugar so that I don't crave it anymore. I eat around 1300-1600 a day to maintain weight and I have to go on deficit to lose it. Intermittent fasting helped me sm along with walking everyday. And of course cheating days, get the f** ice cream once in a while, go to birthday parties, dont miss these things. Calorie counting really works for me, otherwise I lie to myself about how much Ive eaten and I gain weight. Look yourself in the eyes and do it again. I feel so free when I break my sugar addiction circle. And its so good to wear what I want. Go for it!

    Hey, this video I great and I feel your frustration. I used calorie counting to get rid of my bing eating and if I can give you one advice on this, it would be don’t eliminate the food you crave but try to add them into your diet regularly, so that you don’t go into deprivation mode. I had a square of chocolate every single day and pizza once a week, and I still lost weight.

    I think one of the biggest things that I have realized is that the priority needs to be in healing metabolism I have been super overweight and struggled with the same carb addictions and binge eating and stuff like that and then have also gone through periods where i dont eat at all and become skinny and then lose control and blow up like a balloon. the cycle will never stop until you choose to adopt a way of living that is sustainable and prioritizes metabolism health. Super restrictive diets are bad long term because they damage your metabolism and then when you do eat more then your metabolism cant burn it off because it is so slow. doing things that prioritize my hormone healthy, lifting weights to gain muscle, and eating sufficient healthy food with lots of proteins and some carbs still all help your metabolism get faster. Muscle at a baseline consumes more energy resting so if you build muscle you consume more calories naturally. if you simply restrict to 1200 calories and dont exercise your body will naturally reduce the amount of energy it spends doing processes and stuff because it realizes "hey were only getting 1200 calories so we need to be conservative with how we use them" then your body is used to so little calories that when you eat more it cant handle it and gains weight. it will never end. every diet/exercise/health decision you make should be one that you can keep for the rest of your life and helps to truly heal your body. I have gone through periods where im 60lbs overweight bordering obese and the only way ive seen sustainable progress in how I look (which is something I care about, I want a healthy looking body and I want my old clothes to fit) is adopting healthy lifestyle habits instead of crash dieting. the simple calorie in and calorie out math is over-reductive. also i think its ok to be more disciplined with foods you know can cause binges. Obviously how much you eat matters but also a lot of other things too. im saying all of this out of a place of struggling for YEARS with this personally and I really dont want this to come off as an attack I just want to add my two cents from what I have learned has worked for me as a long term solution. i also really recognize that mental health can impede setting up habits like this so I dont wanna be insensitive to that.

    Girl 100% I'm with you on this and it doesn't help when you're "skinny fat" meaning you're short enough that you fit in a lot of clothes but literally we're not "fit" enough for these clothes to look right. I have shirts that are a size XS, S and M while my BMI said at the beginning of the year that I was 1 point away from obesity. I've lost 15 pounds so now I'm just overweight but I just bought an XS sweatshirt. Make it make sense... lol The other thing is trying to figure out a diet plan, exercise, researching the science of it all and only finding videos that are walking disclaimers because influencers, or fitness people don't wanna be called fatphobic so they give no real "tutorial" on how to make it work. They say stuff like "be in a small calorie deficit", "eat non processed food BUT ITS OK IF YOU WANT TO HAVE PIZZA ONCE IN A WHILE". Practically speaking how does that even fucking make sense?? How do you implement that?? I'll say the only thing I found useful for my mental space was to start watching men health people because they tend to be less BS around nutritional information and spend more time on facts and less time on disclaimers and worrying about what people are going to think about what they say. Anyway I'll shut up now and keep watching your video!

      You just described a lot of what I went through and man oh man do I relate to your frustrations. I've genuinely watched all of the videos you're talking about. 😂 I think it's because when you're already skinny and have a certain metabolism -- you can eat those carbs once in a while. But see they're not like us, say if you already dieted a lot in your life therefore messing your metabolism or if you developed insulin resistance (from binging, overeating, too much processed or processed sugars, aging, etc.) So I think the best is to do our own research and monitor our body to see what works/helps while staying healthy. I LOVE the no BS videos but sometimes I watch them and realize that even if they motivated me they also promote short term solutions and disordered eating😩 some of them eat little and fast but they eat a lot of junk and I'm like.... this is not healthy or sustainable and I will not be full with quick bars and diet coke. It's soooooo much noise online. I stopped watching influencers, unless they're showing a workout routine. I pray that both me and you find something that's healthy, sustainable, and that actually works for us to be skinny and fit (but healthy and energized without all the food noise) 🥰 Thank you for sharing lovely. YOU GOT THIS. And you are not alone!!!

    Take out the suicidal ideation in the gym. Go to the gym for 2 hours with a plan, and youll feel differently about this topic in 30 days if you eat clean. When your doing the most you can, your not going to feel badly about your body.

    This is a challenge for me… I think I was most happiest when I could move and ate the healthiest. And I felt even better when no one commented about it, instead I was just encouraged to keep doing what I was doing…and I was not strict but disciplined and continued but because of stress from school and gained more and what’s even worse that people commented on how I looked and I gained more than I originally did. I’m trying my best to be back to that mentality but it takes time. I’m trying to love my body in every weight and treat it with respect and continue being healthy.

    OH MY GOSH!!!
    Girl, everything you said, straight down to the peanut butter jar binge; that's me!!! I struggle so much with just eating normally and getting my flipping body to know when to stop. I'm a "skinny fat" too, but because of my ED background, weight loss attempts are harder because my family thinks that I don't need to lose weight and that me trying to lose weight is me spiralling back into my ED. But that's not the case! I want to eat healthier, feel better physically and mentally, and build muscle. I've learned my lessons about starvation, but people have turned me into my past disorder and can't understand that I'm not that anymore, and I want nothing to do with it. It's like there's no in between anymore. You're either supposed to be too fat or too skinny. It's so frustrating, and I get it 💯. Now eating more food but mostly veggies, protein and some(but rarely) carbs - in that order in every meal. Increased my movement during the day (walking, jogging - not focusing on 1h of gym a day like before). Also cut sugar where i could - sodas, yoghurt, sweets (in moderation. Taking my probiotics daily. And i already started losing pounds After a half year period of plateau and gaining. ❤ take care of your health
