First gen Q3s are from 2015 to 2018. The bolts that hold the battery are 10mm but the bolt that holds the grommet is 9/16 not 10mm. For 2016 and up you will also need a star bit set to remove the battery housing. The bolt hold down is difficult to get to and has been repositioned inside the housing of the battery not outside like this model.
Hey There if you look at wiki they say 2015-2018 (North America) and production was 2011-2018. The one that I was working on was a 2015 so I'm thinking that had to be when the 1st gen started in North America.
@@GarageKingYeah I see there was an earlier production. I corrected my comment. 😊 I was working on two of these and they were quite different in how Audi tried to contour the housing so the hold down bolt is not as accessible.
What code scanner are you using and where do you connect it? I have 2016 US Spec Q3 S-Line Quatro Prestige. I just changed the battery at Auto Zone. Battery was not fully dead and was disconnected for about 10 min to get the new one in. It remembered all my settings including all my old address used in my NAV. But if I need to program sometime I want to get the right computer to do it. Thanks
Hey there and thanks for the comment, The scanner I used was a Launch CRP429 and its not sold anymore, its obsolete. I have a few scanners now, but for something like a battery on an Audi I would use the K7, its relatively cheap (and actually on sale now). amzn.to/40PHWPa
Hi There, I used an older Launch CRP429 to do this job, but have since upgraded to a newer Launch scanner. I actually did a review on it. ruclips.net/video/j_XyEoOmcoc/видео.html
Here is the link for the CRP429C which seemed to be the replacement for the CRP429. Right now its on sale for 229 with a coupon on Amazon amzn.to/455Mi45
@@fernandez7964 That one is no longer available as it's obsolete. This one should do and its very affordable. I did a review on the GM one, make sure when you purchase you get the Audi one. Also if you use code gk you get an additional 15% off so the scanner should only be around 100 bucks. bit.ly/3zMcEh4
@@GarageKing My Audi is a 2013 Q3, so far there hasn't been any notice to 'replace battery soon', but I know its on the way out. If I dont have the warning, do I need to go through the relearn process?
Hey that for the comment @gtr161 and you know I never really thought about it. To be honest I really don't know and I don't want to give you the wrong information. Personally I would think that when the battery is replace the relearn process should be done, but if you don't have a scanner then I would say just change the battery and see what happens. Worst case you are just going to get a message for the relearn.
@@deficator750 In this video I used a Launch CRP429, but that scanner is now obsolete. There are cheaper ones now, the just keep getting better. This one is on sale and under 200 with lifetime updates. For battery reset etc. it would be fine.

Good job love you From Dino Mares Fontana CA
Thank you kindly good sir !!! It is appreciated :)
what is the size for the hold down bolt?
Hey there, I think the head size was 13mm, I can't remember what the pitch and width was.
@@GarageKing that's correct, I used your video yesterday and it is a 13mm socket. The two clamps going into the battery terminals are 10mm.

@@GarageKing I tried to use the code "gk" and it doesn't work? Promotion not valid anymore? Thanks in advance
Will it still give you the same error if you don't reprogram it? Ie, good battery bad code?
not sure as I always use the scanner to replace a battery
What kind of battery did you put in
Hey there sorry for the late reply. I’m out camping. I just bought an aftermarket battery. I think it was an energizer.
interesting video thank you for sharing i will always support you 👍💖💖 lik.e 7

is it necessary to do the relearn process?
Hey There, I think you have to or the centre indicator may say "replace battery soon" like the oil service light.

Thank you for the comment
1st gen, 2015? Strange, my Q3 is 2012…
Yes, your 2012 is a first gen just like the 2015, Second gen did not appear until 2018. You can just search Audi Q3 on wikipedia if you wish. Thanks
This is why dealers charge $800 just to reprogram a damn battery.
$800 is crazy, even if they were charging $200 per hour, it should not be more than 1hr labour, and then add the cost of the battery.
@@GarageKingwhat are u using to reprogram the battery? Xtool?

look how to reset it
Possible there was another way, but I did it with the scanner
