Riding A Triumph Bonneville T120 in the Lake District

- Summer has finally arrived, so to celebrate the slightly warmer weather I decided to take a day out on the Bonneville T120 to the Lake District. I'm always glad to have made the 2 hour journey up north. Approaching the Lakes from the south, you see the mountains rise up in the distance, beckoning you to come and see, to ride and take moments to stop and just gawp at the magnificent landscape.
The Lake District and motorcycles are a match made in heaven; and I can't think of any other motorbike I'd rather be riding the twisty, narrow country lanes on than my Bonneville T120.

Because of the bad situation in Libya, the future is not clear. I reached the age of fifty and lost my dream and ambition. I couldn't fulfill my dream of buying a motorbike and enjoying a trip around the world. Because of that, I got depressed. I feel psychological relief when I watch your channel, but my dream still haunts me every time. Thank you for everything you do for us.
You must keep your dream Khaled! Many people still rides bikes into their very old age, so you have time yet to make that world trip happen!
I feel for you. I now don’t listen to much in the way of news as it’s so grim. I too find that watching independent minded people going out and exploring shows that there are far more good people in the world than bad. In terms of your dream, as the saying goes, every journey starts with a first step. Maybe you can do a short adventure first.
I believe in you Khaled! I started on a used 125 when I was 47. You can do it! Love from Denmark
Burying a bike saved my marriage. I had to give up riffing because of a back injury. Over the years I got depressed and my wife and I were going to divorce. I told her I was buying a bike as I needed in my life and I wanted her to come on tours and days out. Long story short over 6 years later we have toured Spain and the Pyrenees and Normandy and marriage saved. Never say never.
Beautiful destination. Wonderful cinematography
Thanks Edward! 🙌
There's nothing like riding a motorcycle in the lake District the views the roads the smells ,great vid as always.Ride safe.
Thanks and I totally agree, the Lake District is a special place.
Wife and I are staying at the Lake District next month from the US. This makes me wish I had a Bonneville I could pack in the overhead compartment but you know how tight that space is when traveling these days.
I imagine that’d be quite the excess baggage bill 😁. I’m sure you’ll have a great time even without a Bonnie.
Thanks so much Matt for another superb film
Glad you liked it Ian!
Beautiful place for a relaxed ride! Thanks Matt!
It really is, glad you liked it Paulo 🙌
Pleasure to watch one of your video's once again 🤗👏🏻
Thanks Marianne, it’s a pleasure to get one of your nice comments again!
Splendid, I'll be up there next week on a Bonneville too, as I visit the Yorkshire Dales and surrounding areas.
Well I hope the weather stays good for you, tourists don’t seem to have arrived enmasse yet so the roads will hopefully be clear-ish🤞
such a nice road to ride
It was Dan, not many more scenic places in the UK
I am already spoiled living near the Canadian Rockies but this is breath-taking, What a beautiful country! Thanks for sharing.
The Lakes are a special place for us Brits, I’m sure you have the same, though I expect on a larger scale 🏔️
Lovely, reminds my of a great day riding the ring of Kerry
Glad to have brought back some good memories 👍
Looks like heaven to me. ❤🏍👍
It’s not far off 👌
Perfect timing... just pour myself a Ardbeg and was looking the video feed and this show's up. Another great video mate. Man those roads looks really nice. And really appreciate the music selection. Now back to the rest of the video 🔥🎥
Ardbeg 👍🏼 one of my faves.
Always happy to get a thumbs up from you Thomas 👊
@@svenwhothehell5980 Mine as well.... I'm a huge fan of the peat ones!
@@svenwhothehell5980 If you enjoy Ardberg, you might also enjoy Port Charlotte.

Thanks Peter, they’re both incredible places to ride, you’re lucky to have one as your local stomping ground 👌
Wonderful.
Glad you think so 🙏
Wonderful video of my neck of the woods, I recognised every bit of the road. Looks like you got the perfect day. If all goes well I’ll be off to Buttermere for a late breakfast on our Ural combination in the morning
You’re a lucky man to have great scenery on your doorstep, hope the weather stays good for you 🤞
Великолепное видео! Как всегда с большим удовольствием посмотрел ) Обожаю классические мотоциклы )
Thanks! Glad to hear you liked it 👍
Stunning Matt. 👌 I’ve just taken a deposit for my bike, finally, and can seriously start my search for another T120. I’ve found two, both the T120 black with the gunmetal, grey tank. The thing is they’re in different countries, 🇨🇦 and 🏴. 🤔 I watched One Week, again, last night. 👌👍
That’s great to hear Jer, are T120’s hard to find at the moment? That’s quite some distance between the two bikes!
@@ClassicRides there’s quite a few here, 🇬🇧, so shouldn’t be a problem. Not so many in 🇨🇦, should I decide to lay my hat there. (I’ve lived on Vancouver island since 2006 but ended up in 🏴 due to the pandemic, family etc). That’s why I like your videos so much, they help me escape the reality of life for a short time. 👍
@@jerhughes500 well I'm glad my videos are providing a brief moment of escapism for you 🙂
Fantastic
Thanks Andrew 🙏
Brilliant video Matt!
Thank you sir!
I believe you rode pass Crummock Water, Buttermere and along the Honnister Pass to Borrowdake. I moved to the Lake District in December from Hampshire, we both chucked in our jobs and made the move, at 61 i needed to do something before the Grim Reaper comes along. Give the North Pennines a go. I live by the A686 which takes upu up to Hartside Pass, then just explore the fanastic roads, even on a sunny day the mist will roll in and you can see bugger all, at times ive had to turn around. Cheers great vid as always 👍
You’re quite correct with where I was, lovely bit of the country. I haven’t done nearly enough of the North Pennines so it’s on my list for sure.
Amazing, simply amazing!! Thank you Matt! 👍👍
Thanks Nelio, glad you enjoyed it!
all the familiar places, brilliant. Love the video as always
Thank you sir, always great to get a thumbs up from you 👊

BTW. I seen your comm device. Is it Interphone 16? Any reason why not Cardo?
@@UncleLongbeard it was just a lot cheaper, I don’t ride with other people so I can’t justify spending a lot on comms. Plus I don’t really like the subscription thing Cardo have moved to, not cool in my book.
@@ClassicRides Yes, the move with subscription model sucks big time. I still use my oldest packtalk but I was looking around for something new for my friend. It looks you can get PT bold for 150 which is the best option in reasonable price (ish). But after seeing that subscription crap I started to wonder if that's a good idea to stay with them.
@@UncleLongbeard I wouldn't say the Intercom unit is the best quality, when I've used it for talking to a pillion the audio gets a bit ropy or just cuts out often. For using it to just listen to sat-nav directions it's fine, but if I were regularly using it to talk to people I'd probably get something else.
Stunning ! I can't imagine how much time and effort this took , enjoyed every second ! Thank you !
You’re welcome, glad you enjoyed it!
Me and friends were there subdau and saw your sticker. Then i stumbled across this video.
I’ve been planting stickers in many places, maybe you’ll spot more in the wild 😁
Buenas, ya tenemos el buen tiempo encima,y con ello volvemos a rodar,un placer como siempre acompañarte en tu viajes... genial vídeo, saludos Matt
Thanks Eduardo, glad to take take you along!
Nice! 🏁🏁🏁
Thanks Atsuki 🙏
Very nice 😀
Thank you 😊
Nice video I must do the lakes soon myself cheers Matt
I very much recommend it Dale, you’ve got the perfect bike for it 👌
Another triumph Matt. Utterly gorgeous. Excuse the bad pun.
It’s ok, I like what you did there 😁

Capturing the essence of English summer riding perfectly once again, thanks for sharing Matt - any more camping plans?
Thanks Chris! Yes many more camping trips planned, just need to find the time to do them. Hoping you have plenty planned yourself, I’m looking forward to watching them 👊
beautiful scenery - love it! next week i start a journey to großglockner hochalpenstraße (its a marvelous street in the austrian alps) and then we hit the road for about a week or two in austria or north italy - it belongs to the weather. i bought my bonnie öhlins rear suspension, because with full luggage and two persons the stock suspension did´nt feel save in long bumpy curves. that was a really good investment - enjoy it a lot.
maybe i put one or two pictures on instagram. ;-). best regards from vienna!
Sounds like you have a great trip planned Onkel, I’m very jealous! Please do post some pictures on instagram, it’d be great to see the places you visit on your Bonnie!
Congratulations on the excellent work!! What is the reference of that auxiliary light that you are using?
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I believe the light is a Harley Davidson unit, I bought it from a motorcycle breaker so I can't be sure.
@@ClassicRides What suspension are you using on the T120?
@@bokfpv Hagon Shrouded shocks on the back and Tec progressive springs with preload adjusters on the front. As I said previously, there’s a full list of all the parts on the bike on my website.
Amazing as usual Matt, where about were you riding this time? Awesome scenery, hope there were no punctures involved this trip😂
Thanks Les, this around Buttermere lake, lovely passes over the tops and plenty of Great Lakes to look at, thankfully no punctures!
Motorcycle Pannier Bag all sold out ,when to restock?
Hi Jacky, hoping to have more of the black ones in next week 🤞
chillout style 🤙🏻😏what the music in the video?
It’s an Artlist artist, not sure of the name, sorry.
@@ClassicRides спасибо!)
Dear Matt! Don’t you get any additional noise or even wind buffering with this windshield?
I have tried some variants, but with my 184 cm hight - i get nothing but discomfort…
Thank you.
Hello, no there is no buffering at all, it doesn’t really do much for taking wind off you though, it’s about the same as having no screen at all 🙂
I am Japanese. I became your fan. The t120 will be delivered this time. Do you think it's lame if a Japanese person drives a Triumph?
Not at all, I think a lot of Japanese people ride Triumphs 🙂
Having driven in the Lake District with rental cars that were too large for the roads and almost scraped off of the side by an irate bus driver (apparently he did have the right of way) I can only dream of riding my T120 on those roads. On a different note, did I detect the stock front fender and fender extender on your bike? Thumbs up to a Bonneville in the Lake District!
You have the eyes of a hawk Mike 😁. I put the stock mudguards back on as the other ones looked good, but were spectacularly rubbish at keeping muck off the bike.
The fender extender has kept an amazing amount of trash off of the front of mine…..a wise move!
👍👍👍😄😄😄
🙏🙌
Is the T120 suitable for a tall rider ?
188cm?
Yes, I know some very tall people that ride T120’s perfectly fine.
