Sir thank you so much it is cold as crap where I'm at. Just left church was making a stop at Burger King by myself and my window went down and would not go up. My first reaction was to panic which I did. Then I came. On RUclips saw this trick. Drove two blocks to my local Dollar Tree and it worked praising God for you making this video. God knows what we need exactly when we need it

@@glowcabs4245 That's about par for the course from a shop, price wise. I have an ancient BMW and was quoted the same. I figured the shop just didn't want the job. To do all four windows would be more than the value of the car! We're going to try it ourselves, since the regulator is only around 25 bucks (or double that with motor). If it works, we win. If it doesn't, we learned something and can just stick with the tape and suction cups. 😄 Hope your project worked out!

  • @paulmackilligin1754

The problem with this kind of tape is that the adhesive goes soft in the heat. Normal duct tape or gaffer tape has stronger adhesive but it still melts, gives way, and gets super-messy in the heat.
For this kind of application I have successfully used Tyvek tape, which is designed to join roofing membranes and survive a couple of months of exposure to sun and rain before the roof tiles go on. I believe it has 'acrylic adhesive', which seems to be much less melty. It is much harder to remove, and can still sometimes leave a residue behind, but that residue is easy to remove with a solvent. Certainly much easier than removing sticky glue residue that has migrated down into the gap between glass and door because the tape has given way and the glass has slipped down!
Aluminium duct tape also has the same acrylic adhesive I believe, as it is designed to join (seal) metal ducting which can have hot air in it. But again, it is the type of adhesive that matters, not what the tape is made of.

@@hardlymovingpro ...but I just happen to have some Tyvek tape lying around. I wouldn't go out and buy something, just for a temporary fix! You use what you have.
I did this job on a car a couple of years ago, used gaffer tape (ordinary duct tape) over the top of the door, and the tape did go soft and begin to slip in the heat. I ended up using loads of tape. Tape to hold down the tape that was holding the glass up, and then tape to hold down the tape that was holding down the tape. It worked.
In fact I have to do this job today, which is why I was watching your video of course, and I have decided the best would be a few good quality suction cups on the glass. And again, I have some lying about that I was using to open up an iPhone They're just the clear rubbery plastic suction cups, but decent quality. I reckon if they are positioned so the lower edge of the cups are just wedged in the gap between door and glass then there is no chance the glass will slide down.

Using both hands, pushing up on the glass (with the door open and one hand on the outside and the other on the inside) while someone else presses the window up button. If that doesn't work, you'll have to take off the door panel and disconnect the glass from the window regulator which more than likely needs replacement. Look up any video showing how to replace the regulator/motor on your vehicle.

If the window motor is locked up / jammed, then you'll need to get it serviced.

everyone with common sense has tried lifting it like that. this video is a literal waste of time lmao

If the regulator motor has malfunctioned, it will lock the window glass in place. In that case, you're right. A waste of time getting the glass up. However, if the glass slide down, you can pull it up and lock in place with tape.

Hardly Moving Productions thanks man I did it and I’m pretty sure it’s working for now. Not sure how long I should leave it until I replace it.

@@lizardandbone It's just temporary while it gives you time to order a replacement regulator and motor. I did a video on how to replace it on a Toyota Camry, Acura Tl & GMC Sierra. Not very difficult.

The whole reason I found this video is to find out what happens when the windows falls all the way in the door, not a tutorial how to use tape. Effen morions.

Worst tip iv’e ever seen, it’s a wonder that holds overnight, the sun, moisture etc, will have you coming out to a car full of rain or all your property in the car missing after the window falls in, use a heavy duty vacuum suction cup and put it in the corner of the window, sure someone can see the suction cup but they still have to break the glass to get in.
