- This animation illustrates the double chainstitch in slow motion. Stitches are formed as the upper thread (needle thread), that is inserted through the sewing material, is interlocked with the loop of the lower thread on the underside of the sewing material. With the correct yarn tension, the seam is elastic.
Stitch type 401 is often used in the processing of waistbands, in linking machines for knitted goods or in the production of airbags in the automotive sector.
