In week 6 of the 2011 NFL season, the Detroit Lions hosted the San Francisco 49ers at Ford Field. The game featured two of the top teams in the league with the chance for the Lions to continue to remain undefeated. However after the game ended a huge altercation broke out and both Jim Harbaugh and Jim Schwartz would be front and center of the whole melee.

After Harbaugh got hired by SF he, his brother, & Schwartz were out to dinner one night discussing football. During said dinner Schwartz apparently made a couple comments about how there was no way a 1st year coach in a shortened offseason (they had a strike in the 2011 preseason) would be able to win... John Harbaugh later said his brother was quietly seething with anger the rest of the night & as soon as they bid farewell to Schwartz he exploded. "Can you believe this f#@$!%g guy???" "Who the f#!% is he to say I can't win???"
Harbaugh definitely had that Detroit game circled on the calendar lol.
I always been a fan of Jim Harbaugh. As a QB for the Colts in the mid 90's before Manning got drafted there, he was the emotional leader of that team. It was the heat of the moment. There's no animosity between them, like there was between Buddy Ryan and Jimmy Johnson. Or Buddy Ryan and Mike Ditka.
This is the only relevant comment for said topic. I say topic and not video because the video didn't even get close to any part of the story preceding the handshake. Everything you said was spot on. Combine that with Schwartz laughing and yelling shit at Harbaugh from across the field at times during the game, like when Harbaugh attempted to challenge a scoring play in the first quarter that put the Lions up 9-0(game score before extra point attempt), and I believe 2011 was the first season when the NFL began imposing a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty for said act. 2011 was also Harbaugh's first year as a NFL head coach, for those of you still reading and keeping count. So the double Jim and John dinner mixed with all that chirping from across the aisle when things were going so well at first, blend that in with a hella of a fuckin game, literally a game that sits in my top 3 favorite 49ers games since I began being a Faithful in the early 90's. Don't forget to remember to add both of the characteristic mixtures of exactly who we're talking about here on top, and this handshake is what you get.

I'm a Lions fan and the Swartz one was hilarious. Swartz looked like a little kid on the playground.
If I remember correctly, at some point in the game, Harbaugh tried challenging a turnover and it’s auto-reviewed. Schwartz yelled across the sideline “learn the fucking rules”. Later in the game, Schwartz threw a challenge flag in the final 2 minutes of a Half, which is also auto-reviewed, and Harbaugh chirped back.

Can't believe Kyle Williams did that twice. That team would have won the super bowl. 20-17. Ten points were from kyle willimas fumbles on punts in the red zone. Giants never score enough to win that game otherwise. Even just one fumble would have been ok. But keeping the offense off the field twice was brutal for the all time great d they had. The offense was dominant with ball control, time of possession. And we were destroying the pats in those years. Kyle Williams ensured Alex smith didn't win a superbowl.

I just remember Jim Harbaugh going crazy because the 49ers won a hard fought game. Jim Schwartz was mad at the lost and the hard handshake put Jim Schwartz over the edge and he went crazy and wanted to fight Jim Harbaugh. Both Jims are crazy passionate about football and are both temperamental. Jim Harbaugh Era for the 49ers was great but for some reason the 49ers had to play in a fixed Super Bowl XLVII and lost.

Michigan sports are in a tough spot right now. The Pistons feel almost as bad as the Lions, especially with Cade struggling in his first couple games. Hopefully he can turn it around soon, because we need the hope that he can bring.

Shwartz was a big mistake for the Lions and started a long time issue with refs for showing replays that were still under review on the Jumbotron. He repeatedly showed them up and the Lions suffered from ticked off refs ever since. Its not as bad the last two years but Look at the the Cowboys game for an example. The Cowboys make a lot of money for the league and get several borderline calls go their way. Good thing they suck and blew it on their own again

Schwartz was a phenomenal coach. It's just that the general management at the time allocated all the money to just 3 players. No team should do anything but go 0-16 when they don't even have a field goal kicker. The fact Schwartz got em there, and in subsequent years after they fired him, the team actually started playing 0 win football, shows just how much value he added. An absolutely brilliant football mind, made to look bad by the worst management in football history.
