Some people really dont know the amount of hours and pain it takes to reach perfection. Here we have a perfect example of no cut corners. While some continue to slop swap and make exuses for lack of attention to all detail, I believe if we are going to do it, we better do it right.. AMAZING JOB, WELL DONE!
If I remember correctly, this guy learnt how to do everything on the car himself as he went along including the bodywork and mechanical things and he isn't a tech. So it's really impressive, plus he is a Tasmanian guy so it's good to see our local on show.
Golf 1 is a so beautiful car and the best golf ever. But what you are make and build here is Amazing!!!!! This car is absolutely "H. A. M. M. E. R." I wish you so much fun with this car and you that you will enjoy every turn. Great work and the golf really nice. Maybe you can make a short vid where we can see this car in action and listen the sound from the engine???!!! All the best for you.. 👍😎😉
Half of these guys on here ain’t car guys! Some of us like wide body’s, offset wheels, massive spoilers, stretched tires and others are the total opposite. Just respect the hard work this guy has put into this car, until you go and build your own car and empty your bank (like what this guy would of done) then have your say. No one respects other people’s choices, I’m not a fan of the wheels and carbon dotted all over this car! But I certainly respect this guy for this as id never get this far!
love the built, i would only change the seats and the rear end. since its an early golf mk1 75/76, that's suppose to be a swallow tail model with small tail lights ;)
I thought that was interesting as well. Initially turbo 16 valve build, then to naturally aspirated 16 valve with ITBs. I prefer the sound and instant response of ITBs, but not often chosen after a turbo setup.
Das Ding habt ihr sehr schön gemacht!! LG aus Solnhofen! Soo etwas würde soooooooo gerne unterstützen!! PS: Bin ein passionierter Fahrzeug Lackierer!!! Das taucht!!!!!!
Lets us all lower our heads and collective give thanks to the aftermarket gods for making great gear for our old crap....amen. This has got to be one of the most tastefully built Mk1s ever done. It really has that special appeal shared in common with all great builds that only include enough gear to make it appropriate to the theme. :)
LOVE IT just amazing GOLF First off they refer to all blacked out as murdered I THINK this color combo should be referred to as ASSASSINATED . NOW I would like to know what the powertrain consists of please??
Wow some hours went into that are you divorced yet? For a custom awesome, for an original not so but is everyones free choice and i think what you have done is very cool!
I was really hyped up about watching this but then I noticed the stretched tires... But the video itself is pretty good, though some narration would be nice.

Gen3Benz one hundred percent true of most old watercoooled vws but for some dumb reason I can’t stop loving them and spending unjustified amounts of money on them lol
Do you honestly think he'd sell this car? I'm exactly the same. I've spend tons of money in a 'shit' RX8 - I'll NEVER get my money back. I don't care though. The way I have it now is my dream car. 1JZ - eventually upgrade to a 2JZ big single -
AMYAS Seek Truth You may get bored with the car and want something else. Who knows what will happen in the future? Maybe you will want extra money to buy a house, another house, or put into a business. There are many reasons to build a project with resale in mind.
the seatbelt install negates all other work done to this car. bolting the shoulder belts so low will crush your spine incase of a frontal impact. they have to be parallel not pointed down...
Well done, awesome job, perfect choices of materials and parts. But you start the video with a turbocharged engine and finish with an ITB /NA. What was the problem (if there was one) ?
I thought somebody actually built a MK1 body entirely out of carbon fiber I thought that was completely amazing. This is still cool, just not that cool.
Hi guys I can see you do a great job .keep up the good work guys..so I need someone who can come and rebuild my MK1 for me plz guys I'm from Vanderbijlpark
Mate great work. 10/10 , I have just got my dads golf going after 25 years and loved it . Sorry to say I another one and in a year will start again but this time a R32 for me, Love your work, MKI.77 on instagram
Ahh! Its real nice but its got ussues, bit like a very attractive lady. I have no idea why there is so much carbon covering its not the best but its still very tight. Red rims too? Yeah on the fence with this one. Well done either way its one hell of a motor.
Felicitaciones! Una genialidad! Tengo un MK 3 me gustaria hacerle algo asi, aunque esta como nuevo, pero si pintarlo y cambiarle los asientos... Saludos desde Uruguay!
So it's just a regular steel golf with lots of aftermarket carbon fibre bits on it? Not being funny but the whole carbon thing has become a bit passé these days- carbon everything, toilets, sinks, plates, cups blah blah blah. It's just fancy fibreglass. If you can make a moulding then you can have it in carbon. Is it the pretty pattern they like? The exclusivity it first had is well gone and it is the norm nowadays, literally everywhere. It's much cooler( am I allowed to say that word?) to paint it. It's like " yeah yeah I know to carbon fibre but I don't give a shit, it's performance is more important than its asthmatics to me"
Kris Nicholson I am an aircraft engineer and so been working with the stuff for years. The problem with fibreglass as it was , was the polyester resin rather than the glass fibres. Carbon fibre was laid up with epoxy resin and using pre preg( pre impregnated) it meant weight could be kept down by using less resin. Glass fibres laid in epoxy resin is not very much weaker and only slightly heavier than carbon fibre. In aviation weight is everything. Aviation techniques and materials spilled across to automotive use. I much prefer the look, feel and ease of working of good old fashioned aluminium. One aspect everyone seems to be avoiding is the worst case crash scenario. Airborne fibres from the carbon fibre a real health worry. You only have to breathe them in or get them in your eyes to know why it is treated like a hazardous chemical spill! Far too risky for me, good old fashioned metal thank you very much.
nothingbettertodoatm it's no different to any other resin bonded composite to work with, glass,e-glass, Kevlar and aramids, nylons etc. Having been to many aircraft crash sites where a composite aircraft has been involved I can assure you that you won't be feeling any love for the stuff. I have no reason to doubt a heavy car crash would be similar? The resin burns, not the fibre resulting in airborne fibres and that is bloody awful. Having sat in hospital to have fibre shards removed from my eyes I can assure you it's no fun. The composite shatters into needle like shards that pierce body tissue like needles.
You could have saved weight by just bolting it together without all the carbon crap sitting on top of other things. I was really looking forward to a carbon roof skin, carbon doors, carbon fenders (wings for the folks across the pond), carbon hatch, no door panels( door cards), and some actual race car stuff. Not this faux racecar crap that's the thing now.

Awesome car, first time, i see an golf1 with polo 6n dashboard. But i think it would have looked even nicer with the original small MK1 rearlights.
Nice to see such a beautiful rebuilt of "our" European Car Icon, down, in Tasie. Congratulation, Mate!

I want one same like this
Are those Schmidt wheels?
