Muriel still slays me. I first heard her some 20 years ago and got her transcription of The Liberty Bell AKA Monty Python's Flying Circus theme. It's the only Muriel Anderson piece I can play. I'm going to see her perform at the Lobero Theater, October 1 in Santa Barbara. Bringing sheet music for an autograph (I hope).
This is the kind of playing that makes me want to pack my instrument away and forget the whole thing. Imagine pulling this off in front of 5000 people.

Muriel is a master guitarist. I cannot imagine Felix Arndt would have ever dreamed it was possible for this to have been played on only the treble clef, that a stringed instrument could be played this way. Maybe I’m wrong, but I doubt even Django Reinhardt would think it could be done. Then again, maybe I’m wrong, but this is absolutely amazing! Les Paul’s electric guitar version is nice, but it doesn’t really count because he had studio musician backing him up, and it sounds like he’s really just playing the treble clef part of the original sheet music written for piano with a little Les Paul flare thrown on.
Bravo, bravissimo- this was just perfect! Very complex and beautiful harmonies apparently just dancing on the strings so easily combined with that hilarious expression just blew me away.
You don't watch a thing like this everyday. Nola is difficult on the piano and so it is on the accordion. But on the guitar it must be even more difficult to play Nola, though Muriel seem to think it's so easy...
