No kidding! I think it's only one foot pound of torque though, right rudder, more right rudder, less right rudder, more...well you get it. Looks like the left foot is only along for the ride in a Mustang takeoff.
Wow! Very neat to see a P-51 takeoff with a view from the cockpit like that. It’s also very interesting to see some of the modern digital avionics, maps and such being used fitted inside an 80+ year old propeller driven fighter plane 😎
I had the honor of being in a band that provided music at a dinner for the Cincinnati chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen's veterans association. It was a couple of decades ago when many were still around.
And those talented airmen back then didn't have the advantage of the upgraded avionics shown in this aircraft. Old school pilots are a bit of a different breed.
That's what my father said about his time as a waist gunner on a B-24. On one occasion, a P-51 driver saved his plane when they were flying low back over the channel all shot to pieces. The fighter pilot followed them to their base then went home.
Got to fly a T-28 [low pwrd 600 hp version] a few times. Can't take off on full power would flip on runway. Closest I got to flying P-51. Good memories.
Wow. She's had an instrument upgrade. Neat, almost looks like it should have came like that. Looks strange without seeing the Gun sight & "No hand hold" In front of your face though. Wonderful
I'll never forget this guy from my rc plane club took me up in his souped up (turbo charged Subaru engine) RV8 and man we did a short take off from some property & it was like a drag car!
I've actually experienced this - thank you Stallion 51 at Kissimmee for the best hour of my life!! (Don't tell the wife!😂) Note the soft-shoe shuffle as the torque comes in and to counter the precession as the tail comes up..... Jets are for Kids! 😄
Gear up and he adjusts the trim tab! I've learned a lot watching these videos. Not a pilot but if I ever had to be...I'd fly the old P51 in a heartbeat!
@@messianichebrewshawnkawcak1550 Most properly achieved by starting on a Basic, then a Primary, and finally an Advanced Trainer aircraft, all BEFORE even dreaming of attempting a warbird fighter !

Absolutely not. They are apparently a nice aircraft to fly and handle well on low-medium fuel loads. They are not at all a flying brick and have advanced aerodynamics.
That much torque he has the stick held right on takeoff...nothing but pure horsepower
Watching his feet on the pedals, keeping her straight down the runway, is educational.
People who fly tail draggers know what their feet are used for!

Control column well over to the right initially too.
Huh?
What are those pedals doing?
Incredible! Dash is totally upgraded to modern standards. LCD horizon, digital altitude, auto pilot. Digital on the left and analog on the right.
Thats the most luxurious P51 cockpit I’ve ever seen!
The FAA won’t let any aircraft fly without it so most WW2 aircraft will have digital displays mixed with analog autopilot and TCAs etc.

I can’t really think of anything that could be more fun than advancing the throttle on a P51 to takeoff power!
A Spitfire, perhaps? 😁
maybe a proper start up and trim setup?
Probably not stalling it on takeoff !
How about an F-16 or F-22!
I think he banked too early. Chabces of stalling seem too high at that point...
To think how the Tuskegee Airmen flew this model and were successful!!! I'm proud to know my great uncle was one of them! Class 42-F. Blue skies!!!
Red Tails Forever!

I've been flying for 60 years and I give my eye teeth to fly a P-51!
What a machine ....she wants to roll with that power in.....nice!
Got to love that Roll Royce Merlin in there.
Probably a Packard.
V12 sound
This particular aircraft has the Rolls Royce version.
This is by far the most amazing plan ever made.
The P- 51 mustang
was a bombing crews best friend..
My dad was a forward observer in the korean war and he loved the P-51s bringing in their loads .
That's what my father said about his time as a waist gunner on a B-24. On one occasion, a P-51 driver saved his plane when they were flying low back over the channel all shot to pieces. The fighter pilot followed them to their base then went home.
Best looking and sounding plane ever made.
Truth
It's certainly well up there, although I prefer certain marcks of Spitfire.
Debatable, but she sure is pretty.
Yes it is, well, this AND the T28!
Not sure this is actually a Merlin engine!
Wow! At this camera angle 📐 ❤
This is the Anglo-American special relationship.
God bless Rolls-Royce 😊
American airframe and British engine - a marriage made in heaven!
Also a British plane
Was ordered by the british specially with a set of requirements
If we brits had not ordered it then it would never had been
Lmao the p51 having newer avionics than my flight schools 172, gotta respect it.

I have been fortunate enough to fly in 3 different P51s. It never got old. Plus 1 Corsair.
Did you notice how much right stick he was holding during the takeoff roll? I love that modern instrument panel.Very functional office there.
God I love the sound of that. I only get to fly them in VR but I love it.
same
The engine went from idle to a faster idle for take off. So much more power left on that throttle.
Among this put a smile on my face the whole video 😊
I’m so jealous.
Wow amazing camera quality
Seeing this fly is literally seeing history come alive.
God bless our service members!
Past and Present!
It's mind boggling to consider the level of aircraft development from Kitty Hawk and the Wright brothers to WWII and a P51 Mustang.
Crosswind technique is on point. Bravo.
The amount of right boot needed to counter the torque illustrated the power of that Merlin.
This was enjoyable! Clean plane. Good view of pilots movements steering the plane. Not long enough!
Tolles Haus und sympathische Familie.
Great video, my favorite WW2 plane. The color is amazing. 💯🤙🏼
Literally enough to make a guy walk funny, not kidding.
That is NOT a 1945 era instrument panel! 😂😂😂
They redid the interior or it’s one of the aircraft meant to look like the 51
Wow.
She's had an instrument upgrade.

In front of your face though.
Wonderful
That 500mph redline on the airspeed indicator says it all
Looks like a whole lot of fun.😂
Joystick control how cool!❤
Wow, fantastic - that limited visibility is scary though!
Visibility was far worse in the early models before the bubble canopy
Was only worse with radials, like the P-47 and F6F.
But it improved as soon as the tail started to fly
Trying to land it would be hell. If an animal ran out on the runway you'd never know it till it was too late!
@@lesterweinheimer665you wheel land this aircraft
Nice modern avionics
yeah, instruments are nicely updated
She's got some grunt and noticed the torque 😊
I actually flew in one for an hour! A ride of a lifetime! ❤
Lucky!
It’s crazy how they had gun sights on the window like that all the way back then, and it took decades for it make its way to cars
I loved P-51 ❤
Interesting to see how Intensive p-factor works on the running.
P51's are so beautiful
One of the more complex offices in existence.
God I love the sound of the P-51D ... favorite WW2 aircraft
It’s so weird to see a P51 with computers in it😂😂😂
thats a beautiful view for such a haunting sound 😅
This video should have a million views and likes. It's a goddam Cadillac of the skies!!💚
More like a hi-performance go-kart
That is bad ass! That props cutting through that air like butter. 👍
Perfect, good
I hear ya, Kilo Delta. I’ll never get to own a P-51, but I have been in formation with C. Yeager in a T-6…and of course I tell everyone.
My favorite plane of All Time.
Sweet
It’s gotta be so crazy getting used to taking off naturally pitched up like that.
Nah. Fly taildraggers a few times, especially with tundra tires, and you'll get used to it.
Damn she sounds good
Wow. That is my dream to fly one of those
What a classic (with a few modern upgrades to be sure). P51 was one of the best ever made.
You might (I’m fairly sure) be setting in one of the aircraft my aunt helped build during the war. The aircraft was a beauty & so was she!
27 litres of pure music!
love hearing her sing!
Nice job keeping the ball centered!
Ohhhh it looks so nice! I got on one of these or similar...pardon my ignorance, as a passenger, I loved it!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
U flew in something similar to this !! And you don't know what it was!!!!!!!!
O.M.G..
Seriously u should be jailed!!
It's amazing to think that it's actual use was under conditions unimaginable.RESPECT
Thank you. That was great!
Thanks for sharing this video such a pleasure

Merci Pilote pour ce moment super avec Le p51 L'acadia du ciel❤🇨🇵🇨🇵🇨🇵
Was that a hand crank landing gear like a car window from the 70’s
This does my soul good!
I know what you mean!
Very cool. My dream as a pilot to fly one. Then a spitfire
You got that the wrong way round 😁
Pretty cool! 😍
Next Stop,
The Danger Zone.
That looks awesome.
Thank You 👍
That was cool thank you for the cool video
Masterpiece 💯🌟
Not many pilots flying a tail dragger anymore
All instruments and panel looks new
The instrument panel seems taken from an F-100. But that's a small price to pay, allows the airworthiness and increases safety...

Tricks are for kids, 😂. It takes mega skill to fly these old birds. Cant go full throttle on TO otherwise it'll nose over.
Going as fast as/matching a 737 on climb out and throttled back a lot.
Sicket most badass plane ever invented.
I can see now why taildragger pilots say ‘I didn’t see that dozer on the runway’
Such a cool video!!!!
My bucket list
What power, nose down trim right away...
This would be an amazing experience to fly solo rather than the 152 I'm flying now!😂
It'd be a huge shock, that's for sure!
Hell YEAH! :D
To this day I'm mildly annoyed that the year I was born (1975), the Canadian Air Force was selling these as surplus for $750 each.
It looked like he had a crosswind. .He had stick Deflection to the right. I don't think he used full power either. Nice
Gear up and he adjusts the trim tab! I've learned a lot watching these videos. Not a pilot but if I ever had to be...I'd fly the old P51 in a heartbeat!
And a P51 would undoubtedly require a high performance rating, and tail dragger endorsement.

Was I the only one pushing my left foot into the floor watching this?

"damn that's a super realistic sim, I wonder if that's modded DCS...that's not DCS."

Dude that takes balls. Very heavy,
Looses altitude the minute you bank it. Very cool plane but just a flying rock.
