      No kidding! I think it's only one foot pound of torque though, right rudder, more right rudder, less right rudder, more...well you get it. Looks like the left foot is only along for the ride in a Mustang takeoff.

    Incredible! Dash is totally upgraded to modern standards. LCD horizon, digital altitude, auto pilot. Digital on the left and analog on the right.

      The FAA won’t let any aircraft fly without it so most WW2 aircraft will have digital displays mixed with analog autopilot and TCAs etc.

    Wow! Very neat to see a P-51 takeoff with a view from the cockpit like that. It’s also very interesting to see some of the modern digital avionics, maps and such being used fitted inside an 80+ year old propeller driven fighter plane 😎

    To think how the Tuskegee Airmen flew this model and were successful!!! I'm proud to know my great uncle was one of them! Class 42-F. Blue skies!!!

      I had the honor of being in a band that provided music at a dinner for the Cincinnati chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen's veterans association. It was a couple of decades ago when many were still around.

      And those talented airmen back then didn't have the advantage of the upgraded avionics shown in this aircraft. Old school pilots are a bit of a different breed.

      My dad was a forward observer in the korean war and he loved the P-51s bringing in their loads .

      That's what my father said about his time as a waist gunner on a B-24. On one occasion, a P-51 driver saved his plane when they were flying low back over the channel all shot to pieces. The fighter pilot followed them to their base then went home.

    Got to fly a T-28 [low pwrd 600 hp version] a few times. Can't take off on full power would flip on runway. Closest I got to flying P-51. Good memories.

    Did you notice how much right stick he was holding during the takeoff roll? I love that modern instrument panel.Very functional office there.

    The engine went from idle to a faster idle for take off. So much more power left on that throttle.

      Visibility was far worse in the early models before the bubble canopy

    The instrument panel seems taken from an F-100. But that's a small price to pay, allows the airworthiness and increases safety...

    I've actually experienced this - thank you Stallion 51 at Kissimmee for the best hour of my life!! (Don't tell the wife!😂) Note the soft-shoe shuffle as the torque comes in and to counter the precession as the tail comes up..... Jets are for Kids! 😄

      Tricks are for kids, 😂. It takes mega skill to fly these old birds. Cant go full throttle on TO otherwise it'll nose over.

    Gear up and he adjusts the trim tab! I've learned a lot watching these videos. Not a pilot but if I ever had to be...I'd fly the old P51 in a heartbeat!

      @@alfredomarquez9777 yes. The faster a plane is the more you have to think and stay ahead of the airplane. Also being prepared for G force maneuvers and getting used to the spins or rolls that throw off the equilibrium.

      Absolutely not. They are apparently a nice aircraft to fly and handle well on low-medium fuel loads. They are not at all a flying brick and have advanced aerodynamics.
