Musical creativity gets lost when money becomes the primary motivator. Even if the music was being made today, it would get lost beneath all the commercially promoted artists who take up all the oxygen in the room. At least we can still find that good music here. 👍
Actually funkadelic was making demos to this type of music the temps was doing The parliaments started it when they made good old funky music in 68 Norman wanted that sound and asked gc yo have the original funkadelic to record some instrumentals they did and Norman had his musicians study and emulate them.whule he wrote lyrics Actually Dennis Coffey, bib hobbit, ray monnette, Earl van dyke all played in the first funkadelic with Eddie hazel, tiki fulwood and Billy Nelson and they played in Ruth copelands first album self portrait where they picked up Bernie worrell Coffey, babbit, Andrew Smith just did hair and things album
Back in the late Sixties early 70's I saw the Temptations perform this Masterpiece...the dance moves they did with the song brought the House Down..the band leader at the time was Gil Askey..........he had the band " humming " that night we gave the Temps and the band a well deserved standing ovation !!!!!!!
Not hating on people just purchasing music at home but there was and still is a certain joy in walking into music store and buying a vinyl record, cassette or even a cd.
I concurr whole heartedly. The majority of these who purchase music today will never know the the tactile sensation of holding an album/cassette/CD in their hands. What a shame. I recall, from back-in-the-day, I visited a music store on the way to work. I browsed through albums/cd's with nothing really grabbing me. However, I came upon a CD by an artist I'd never heard of. The artist's name was Bob Baldwin, (an instrumentalist of contemporary jazz, jazzy funk and jazzy r&b). What an amazing discovery that was. I have since bought everything he has produced/published since that time. Has I not been in that music store, I most likely would not have had the pleasure of discovering his music nor learning of his musical journey from childhood. An experience such as this is missed out on by so many of today's music lovers. Again, what a shame.
I hadn't heard this in years until last Sat. I fell back into step like I never left lol. I was 13 when I bought this album. Been playing the Tempts message music period all week. I was playing this song when I saw the news that Dennis passed today. A sad day but their music was behind some great memories. RIP Dennis Edwards
Kenneth Taylor (RIP) May 1954-Oct 1975. Kenny, I remember when you first put me on to this cut.. There isn't a day that passes, that I don't think about you big brother!!! I love you forever.. May God rest your soul eternally.. Ronald L. Higgins Sr. Kingston, NY
Coming from Str8 out the Big D! That's when music was real and had SOUL. Motown had the Greatest Acts on the Motown Review those were the days!!! And they always kept it real, going to Belle Isle & visiting family. Eating up all the food drinking & singing. Long live the ones that started the Real Revolution for Blacks through music. Thank you and God Bless you. Much love
I'm an abstract artist and I'm gonna create a Painting to this song. I dont know what's gonna come out but I'm gonna take a stroll through my mind!!! Love this song.
I had to repeat a poem for a 9th grade speech class. I hated that class . Racked my brains for a week until I just decided to just repeat take a stroll thru you mind because I knew all the words. Instant A
Those artist from back in the DAY was true Genius & that's to say all of them just like it takes effort from everybody on a football team to pull off a close defeat! Back thin all instruments & artist had to put out their personal best to produce a hit!
Man! Summer of 1970! Oakland, California. The summer that I got drafted into the army. I remember singing this song all the way to the induction station and all the way to Ft Ord. Worried as hell that I would go to Vietnam. Memories!

Layayette is who this song this album reminds me of. He was about 17 and worked at Safeway. He was quiet but cool as hell . Now everybody likes classic cars. He gave us me and my buddies , who were too young to have a car? I ‘d say we were too damn young to have a car or drivers license .. He rolls up with this clean 1965 Chevorlet Impala Super Sport , candy apple red, crager mags , duel exhaust, 327, and as we got in the Temptations Psychadelic Shack was playing. Oh by the way 4 speed- standard with Hurst shifter . When we all got in I sat in the back and in the middle of this back seat was this speaker built into the middle seat. Man! To a young teenage boy this was the ultimate of cool. And Lafayette just lean over to the left bottom lip hanging when driving and just took off. The sound of them pipes and him going through them gears was just beautiful. Man this Dude don’t know how he impressed me along with the rest of the fellows. It’s amazing to identify this album, this song with him and his cool car. Ya’ll don’t hear me? We were small town boys Afro just starting to get nice and we thought we were cool till he showed us. Folks he had a job and bought that car sacking groceries. Now tell me something don’t that take you back to the first time your hair got long enough to stick an Afro pic in the side of your next to your temple.. That’s what makes Snoop and Ice Cube and Rick Ross and some of the rest bring back the old classic with the sweet.paint jobs and it’s got to be clean and got that sound . I ain’t talking bout bumping I’m talking screaming guitars rumbling bass and brothers singing vocals all out with pain and feeling.. So as I close take a stroll through your mind and think about the first time you heard this album . I salute brothers and sisters out there cause we was the young boys growing into men. You be surprise of what you might find . LB July 10, 2023 Monday 10:50pm (Boomer Sooner) . Oh yeah who can forget the sounds of those pipes.
Whitfield put his foot in this aint no words/Strol through your mind are perfect combo. He had a message to deliver, and who better than The best group ever.THE TEMPTATIONS. TEMPTATION FOREVER! OF COURSE PAUL PART IS MY FAVORITE!
They did just great without the confusion that came along with David. I remember as a kids leaving school & walking down to the boulevard & 12th just pass the funeral home to watch the guy's singing & cutting new tunes in the window of Hitsville. I was 14yrs old.
I remember walking Cole's Funeral Home awesome Jose psychedelic sound was not as great as the original song well at least not to me but I love them both
+G Mc omg you are bringing back memories, my brother-in-law returned from Nam and had a huge reel to reel tape deck stereo system delivered in a box the size of a fridge. I put the bottom part broken off a grocery cart under the box and rigged a daring ride strung from a tree in the back yard...I was 15 years old charged folks 5cents and played thru the window the Supremes and the temptations together. . haha ...;lol
G Mc My brother-in-law had this on his reel to reel when he was stationed in Vietnam too!! I loved listening to his tapes with my sister whenever he sent music home.

Walter you sound like you from my part of the world. I first heard this jam at age 9 in a place called East St Louis, Illinois. This to me was the jam of the entire album.

Where is music like this today? It is sorely needed!
Musical creativity gets lost when money becomes the primary motivator. Even if the music was being made today, it would get lost beneath all the commercially promoted artists who take up all the oxygen in the room. At least we can still find that good music here. 👍
These artists today don't understand the ART of music. They choose making money over creativity. Nothing is unique nor deep these days.
All hail Producer Norman Whitfield!
Can you imagine Motown in Detroit Motown come on home

This was a great album back in the day and still now, I love Melvin's bass line!!!

Absolutely 🎉🎉
This song is a monument to the state of Cool! Thanks for posting!
One of the best Psychedelic/Progressive Soul songs ever recorded.
It's the best. Ike came close on Black Moses but this is a masterpiece of jazz, blues, funk.
The temptations & early Funkadelic music wow.........So much alike & there's no comparsion to today's music.
They really don't do music today. Rap and the other stuff is it's own genre but I don't call it music.

Psychedelic Shack was a very underrated album. 1970 was the year and this was one bad ass song.
There was nothing underrated about Psychedelic Shack! Nothing at all!
As a guitar player, I can appreciate how these compositons were given life!
Still love this jam! My mind is sleeping, but I'm still awake
