  • A wild 50's medley from a long-forgotten Australian band. Looking back a decade, they effortlessly recaptured the fun and frivolity of the Fabulous Fifties. I thought this clip from the ABC series RAGE was a showcase for an Arizona band of the same era, but thanks to Paul Rao for the correction. This band The Sect were mainly actively between 1966 and 1971. After Paul set me on the right track I did a little research and found that they supported many visiting bands of the time such as Master Apprentices, The Groop, Valentines, Zoot and Groove. They also supported big soloists like Johnny Farnham, Normie Rower, Johnny Young And Marcia Jones. The Sect also appeared on many Aussie TV shows like Countdown, Happening '70 (possibly this clip), Hey Hey It's Saturday and even the ABC soapie Bellbird.
They won the Queensland Battle Of The Bands competition and the 4IP Battle Of The Bands before moving to Melbourne to live and record.

Band members l to r: Rod Harris, John Brownrigg, Tom Stevens (keyboard), Paul Doo (drums), Peter Moscos, Robin Muirhead. Laurie Stone may have been been in a later version of the band before he and Peter Moscos joined forces.

Robin Muirhead is my father. Still has the Fender Precision Bass and VASE Amp, as well as band posters with many of the supported artists mentioned as well as several 45s with 8 singles on them! He married my mother Roslyn Mjuirhead, sister of Rod Harris.

@@FelixRisingOriginal Its a small world nowadays because your father gave me his dog. The dog name was snoopy. Your father won't remember it. This happened about 1968 or 1969.

+Chockarblock Sect in this footage is the Brisbane based band formed that includes two very prominent songwriters- Peter Moscos and Laurie Stone. In 1969/70 had a mild Australian Hit with Lonely Road.. You can find that on U Tube. Cheers
