- Join me on this scenic 2 day section hike and wild camp on the John Muir Way from Cockburnspath to North Berwick, the route is predominately in East Lothian and takes in stunning coastline & cliffs, farmland, woodland and small towns and villages. I pitch up for a stealth camp just outside Dunbar and hobble along with blisters, finishing the route with a quick climb up North Berwick Law.

Enjoyed this Robin. Great contrast in scenery with a bit of industry added to the mix. Nice little stealthy pitch. Not sure that hip flask was big enough though. Hope you have a great Hogmanay. Look forward to see what 2021 brings.
Cheers Paul. 😁
Aye it was quite a varied walk with the scenery. I know what you mean about the hip flask. But I'd be up all night peeing if I had any more. 😂
Hope you and Jo have a great Christmas and New year. Hopefully lockdowns don't prevent us from wild camping in 2021.
Enjoyed that Robin, great little video. Don’t blame you for skipping that 1st water source 🤢 have a great Christmas mate
Ash
Cheers Ash, even with the filter I didn't fancy it. 😂
You too mate. 🎅 🎄
You really looked like you enjoyed the trip Robin. Had me laughing from moment you mentioned Peckham Spring.. folk paddling in it... 😂. I think I know why you got blisters - you’re almost running. Great video - Merry Christmas 🎄
I certainly did. 👣 Even the blisters couldn't ruin it. 😁
Merry Christmas to you too BM. 🎅
@@WalkWithWallace any chance of getting a copy of your LNT please?
@@BoredManOutdoors sure mate email me at leavenotraceproject@gmail.com and I'll forward it on. 👍🏼
@ 15:56 well you would ask LOL! That's a great film Robin. I have drove around that area with my Dad a few times and we love it especially North Berwick and Port Seton area. Never seen Dunbar right enough will be a day out for the future :) I hate blisters just as much as sunburn two of my pet hates bloody nightmare!! Cheers for this film big man loved it mate. Merry Xmas for you and family Robin, peter :)
Haha, who was I kidding, even though I've been up loads of times before. 😁
Cheers Pete and I wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year too. Fingers crossed we get to explore a bit further afield again in the near future. 🤞🏻
Awesome place for a hike! Thanks for sharing
Cheers N&R. 👍🏼 😁
Excellent that Robin and nice to hear some genuine seasonal bird song (I've been hearing some weird unseasonal species on a few films lately 😁). I really like the look of NB Law, looks a grand spot. My old man used to work away up in that neck of the woods at Torness. Anyway, Merry Christmas pal and best wishes for 2021. Chris
Cheers Mucker, aye that's genuine birdsong audio from the day, not imported. 🐦
NB Law is a cracking little hill, steep from all angles.
Same to you Chris. Take care. 🎅 😁
Great video again Robin. The North Berwick Law was a nice surprise. I remember going here on the 1st Kilmarnock Boys Brigade Camp 1995. We camped at the school playing fields at the bottom of the Law. We climbed it a couple of times that week. Great memories. Have a nice Christmas and hopefully the restrictions ease to allow you and Kev to get back out doing what you do best. All the Best David 👍👍
Cheers David, I know the playing fields. Remember watching the kids play rugby from the summit. 😁
Have a good one too mate, take care. 🎅 🎄
Aye Robin, just nice to get out and stretch the legs 😁. Have a nice Christmas
ATVB for 2021.
Stay safe
👍🏔
Cheers Dave and same to you too. 🎅 🎄 👍🏼
Excellent mate, was that the Lanshan 1 pro you had out? What did you think? Have a great christmas and best wishes for your adventures in 2021 👍🏻
Cheers Mucker, it was indeed the Lanshan Pro 1. It's very similar to my SMD Lunar Solo, but a tad easier to pitch. Overall no complaints so far. 👍🏼
Just came across this and really enjoyed it. I'm familiar with the territory but still found Robin's short movie both entertaining and informative. Great stuff.
Cheers Rockbros1, thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.
When it comes to nuclear power, the high roads more prefferable!!!!!(think of japanese prefecture)!!
Aye, valid point. 🏭 ☢️
Nice little trip Robin with a stealthish camp thrown in , blisters ooh can kill a walk so well done for carrying on . what did you film this on ?? came out nice and sharp .
We have trains that go into that torness power station Atb for xmas Dave
Cheers Dave, still nursing those blisters. 😬 I took the plunge on the Sony ZV-1 after watching numerous reviews on it. You too mate. 🎅 😁
Nice one. I've done this walk and love it. You could have got your head down at mine in Dunbar if I'd known 🤣 Cheers 👍
Cheers Don, I'll know for the next time. 🤣🤣
‘Peckham Spring’ Lovely Jubbly 😂😂🎅🎄⛄️
Another Only Fools & Horses fan then. 😁
Ah, this explains the blisters! Lol. Why the long face?! 😅
Haha, that's the one. 🐴
That was brilliant Robin and suddenly you were on top of the summit. I was one of the evil f...ers. Ha ha! Good going mate. There you are a local one but bags of fun. All the best. Mark
Thanks Mark, it was the only way to end the walk and vlog by going to the summit. 😁
Hope you're well and have a good one. 👍🏼
@@WalkWithWallace It sure was Robin. I enjoyed it - all of it. Went quick that was my point. I'm OK thanks.
Great video. Have a nice Christmas and an Adventurous New Year 🎅🎅🎅
Cheers Linda and you too. 🎅 🎄 😁
Beautiful section of coastline to hike Robin, glad you made it despite those painful blisters! Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. 🎄☃️❄️🥳 Cheers! Oh, and congrats on 4k subscribers, well deserved 👍👍👍
Cheers Tony. Aye it was nice to hit the 4k sub milestone. 👍🏼
Still nursing those blisters 😬
Have a good one too mate. 🎅 🎄
Nice one Robin.😀
Have a good Christmas.
Cheers Andy and you too. 😁
Good wee vid Robin , bet that felt good to get out for a wee while.
Hope the blisters clear up soon
Cheers Stevie, wasn't the mountains, but it was fab to get out over night. 👌🏼Nursing the blisters just now. 😂
Ahh a nice wee G&T there. Makes a change from the Innes and Gunn. Thanks for all your vids this shitty year. Merry Xmas🌲
Cheers Brian, I've came to the conclusion G&T more portable than lager and just as refreshing. 😁
Have a good one. 😁 🎅
This may not have been your dream Highlands escape but it still looked like a good walk along the coast. Shame about those blisters !! Thanks for sharing and we hope you have a good Christmas :D Teddy
Thanks Teddy, despite the blisters I still enjoyed this one. Hope you're having a lovely day by the way. 😊
@@WalkWithWallace Cheers : )
4:03 hilleberg nallo in red 😂 love this vid for a few reasons. I’ve worked at the power station
I’ve camped near the power station
I’ve camped at the leet hoose and I basically love the east coast. Good to see you out mate. Thanks for showing the place I love. And I hope you have a good Xmas and new year etc. 👍 Atb
Haha, looks like it eagle eye. ⛺
Gotta love the East Coast mate. 👍🏼
Take care and have a guid Christmas yourself. 😁
Great video. I get blisters from time to time so stuck some gel socks in my first aid kit. Have come to my rescue a few times.
Cheers Ross, might have to review my first aid fit as my plasters weren't up to much.
Robin, cabin fever, these continuing restrictions and the short days are tough to contend with. Great thinking on planning this trip, I did think there was a bit of a neon glow from you after passing that power station ☢️ Love coastal walking just as much as hill walking. Kudos for climbing North Berwick Law with those blisters! Merry Christmas 🎄🎄
Cheers Gerry, you've got to make the most of what's on your doorstep I guess. How are the restrictions in NI? 😆 @ neon glow.
We can travel throughout N. Ireland at present with no restrictions, though facing a curfew after Christmas for one week 8pm-6am. Not too bad compared to some other places.
@@gerrymcveigh that's not as bad then, you guys seem to be dealing with it better than the other UK nations.
Nice one Robin, bet you felt so much better after that (sore heels aside). Was that all down to your socks, or new trainers? Enjoyed that, and had a wee chuckle at your camp spot 🤣. Merry Christmas 👍
Alright chief, it was good to get out even if it wasn't the mountains. 😁
I'm not sure, I've worn those shoes loads and never had any issues, so I'm a bit mythed. 🤔
@@WalkWithWallace very odd. My winter boots do the same to me every now and then. Need to take extra care when I lace them up, and wear the one pair of socks that work. Unusual with comfy looking trail shoes though 🤷♂️
Robin, I enjoyed tagging alone on this unfamiliar part of the coast. Great that you're keeping the legs going and hopefully 2021 will let us get away from our local areas. All the best and take care. Cheers, Charlie.
Cheers Charlie, how you keeping yourself mate?
@@WalkWithWallace We're bashing The Lomonds just to keep the rough ground walking going but certainly missing the high tops. Just got a hang in for a wee bit longer. Cheers, Charlie.
@@charliemccartney7055 I was thinking they were your local hills. Good hills to have to be fair. 👍🏼
Nicely done Robin great effort all the best for the new year stay 💪💪👊👊
Cheers Sam and you too mate. 😁 👍🏼
Great seeing a "wee" local jaunt there mate. It's a nightmare time but good to see you still out and about.
What was your fuel for your breakfast? Is it a meths burner?
All the best for 2021 and keep safe mate 👍🏼
Cheers mucker, aye it's been a mare, but it's good to see more of your local area. 😁
It's a wee alcohol burner, made my Speedster Stoves. Cheap as chips to buy and run. You'll find him on Google. 🔥 👍🏼
@@WalkWithWallace I'll be sure to check it out mate but have to wait and see what ol' Santy Claus brings me from my wish list.
A meths burner is on it along other things so 🤞🏼
How's the feet? What was the issue?
@@AScotsmanOutdoors no probs mate. I'm thinking I must have not tightened my shoe laces enough or the first pair of socks were too thin. 🤔
Nice one Robin! A good way to show that less mountainous areas also present their fair share of challenges ;) I'd have been scared camping round there I think. Hope your feet have recovered!
About 11pm a group of youths were loitering around and I was expecting a bit of bother, but they thankfully buggered off. 😂
That brought back nice memories - I did the John Muir Way in 2015, but didn't climb the Law! I thought the loveliest sections were the ones from Portobello to North Berwick. Hope the blisters have healed. I was amazed at how small your backpack was, despite carrying a tent!
That is a nice section, I'm biased being from Portobello though. 😁
I knew it was going to be mild, so carried my 3 season kit and never took much food to support local shops along the way. 😊
Nice one Robin, good video as usual . Not like you to get blisters though mate ..The guys fishing at the Torness power station its supposed to be really good for bass there . cheers enjoyed that ..atb Stevie
Cheers Stevie, are they radioactive bass? ⚛
@@WalkWithWallace I heard the water is warmer around there maybe that’s why
@@ootnboots heated up from the reactors. 😁
Nice video Robin. Kept us wondering where you were going to camp. Shame no chippie though.
Cheers Tariq, I went with Umberto's instead for a sit in. 👌🏼 I was wondering where I'd end up too. 😆
@@fittappintrails8731 ⛺ 👌🏼
Massively late to this video but really enjoyed it. I’ve done exactly the same as you down the coast and have the North Berwick to Cockburnspath part to do. My Dad lives two mins from where you pitched, you picked a great spot! Good job the swans weren’t around either. All the best
Ha, chances of that. I could have chapped on his door and kipped on the sofa. 😁 See if I didn't sit in Umberto's for ages, I would have had time to push on to John Muir Country Park and pitched there. 😄
@@WalkWithWallace ha ha! Would have given you a coffee at the very least I’m sure
@@BookerT555 noted for next time. 😄 Its a cracking coast though isn't from Port Seton right down to Berwick and beyond.
Nearly first 😂 the end was brilliant, I was nodding for you as well! ;-)
Haha, it was worth it for the views for a wee hill. 😁
Nice 1 Robin, great video as always. I knew you couldnt resist going up Berwick law. Merry xmas to you👍

Alright pal,
Where you get the little pouches for the porridge? What pillow do you have?
Cheers Justin
Alright mate, I get the pouches from Home Bargains, Tip & Zip 8 pouches. 👍🏼
The pillow is from Decathlon, the Helium I think they call it, recommended, super comfortable. 😁

Torness power station isn't half a blight on otherwise beautiful scenery..your quip about Peckham spring water was funny..made me LOL. Enjoyed watching, great wee video!👍
Do you remember we went to the open day? Only you would pick up on an Only, Fools and Horses mention. 😁
@@WalkWithWallace hehe, thats cos I love only fools and horses...yeah, I remember going on the tour round the power station..it was quite interesting.
@@janie3706 we were all given ear defenders.
@@WalkWithWallace yes, we were, I carried on using them to block out the neighbours from hell downstairs..😂
@@janie3706 😂 😂
What type of socks were you wearing, when your feet were starting to blister?
They were Bridgedale socks, but I caused the blisters by not tightening my laces correctly. 😬
Oh right, I have a special way of tying my waking boot laces correctly, too help stop my feet from sliding up to the very edge of toe area, and back the the very edge of the heel area, my boots are a size 6, but my feet are a size 4 1/2 - 5 how ever they are good in wintertime, providing enough room for very thick cushioning walking socks, and I am waiting, for special insoles being delivered from the Orthotist's clinic xx
@@jacquelinejunor9994 I use special prescription orthotics too, they really help, but do take up extra volume. 👣
Magic... walked a lot of those sections over the years, being stuck down here and no sign of getting back to East Lothian for some time your vid was perfect timing 😂 for me anyway. I spent Auld Years Night up North Berwick Law seeing the bells into 1983. Great walk and all home to me !! Have as good a Xmas as possible, all the best !
Cheers Colin, great vantage point for the bells. Could you see the fireworks in Edinburgh or had you had a few libations by then ? 🎇 😁
Nice one Robin, loved the lighthouse. There's always so much cool stuff to see along the coast. Hopefully the Highlands will be open for business again soon though! 😝
Cheers Kris, if anything it's a good excuse to see more of your local area. Soon as the restrictions are lifted though.... 🗻🏃
Enjoyed this Robin, maybe a wee bit too urban for my tastes but you made it work - especially given the circumstances :) Have a good one!
Cheers Scott, I know what you mean. But it certainly helped with the cabin fever. The coastal and woodland sections were nice. Agricultural land isn't as appealing or power stations. 🤣 You too mate. 🎅 😁
