  • Do you have a head-shy or ear-shy horse? Does he travel with his head high, and/or brace against the bit? Is sensitive to the bit, or rear easily? These could be signs of accumulated strain and tension in the poll.
This is a Masterson Method technique that you can use to encourage relaxation and restore movement to the horse’s upper neck and poll. The Masterson Method teaches horse owners a unique, interactive method of equine bodywork for alleviating soreness, strain, and tension in the horse.
Tension in the poll can create behavioral problems, as well as problems with movement in the poll, neck, and the rest of the body. Releasing tension in the poll will allow your horse to move more freely throughout the entire body. Jim Masterson teaches that releasing tension in the poll is one of the most important things you can do for your horse as it has positive effects on your horse's performance overall.

I’m gonna give this a shot with my mare later on today. That baby you were working with was practically half asleep on your shoulder and was the most adorable thing.

I spent 25 yrs in ortho massage and was very successful, but I would say if anyone out there is thinking of taking up equine massage over human massage, you would have an incredible practice that could go on for many more years than 25. You would have to like traveling though...

Isn't it amazing? It's so subtle, yet gets great results.

Wonderful to see how relaxed this beautiful horse becomes ! He 's trusting fully you, this is very important, she 's half asleep on your shoulder. He 's so adorable.
Pity one can not see well what you are massaging behind her head. A place on the back of his jaw or the beginning of his neck. I think it must be that.
I' ll try maybe with a not too tensed horse school who trusts me. She calls me knicking. Last time she asked me to snuggle her, on her neck at one moment . I did not understand why as we already have had a nice hug on her head - scratching her forehead crazy! - she was moving her head up and down on both sides of my own head. Til I embraced her ( it was instinctively, from all my old past years with horses) and started to massage her neck, scratching both sides of it.
She was happy ! I at least guessed what she wanted me to do.😅
So I think I could try your great technic with her poll. As a Thoroughbred, she always keeps easily tensions in her body, and especially her neck and poll. Thank you very much Doctor ! 😊👌🏻🐎💖
I tried it meanwhile with my favorite thoroughbred. She got easily relaxed, weighing my shoulder, perhaps not enough. It was the very first time for we two. Lol .
After I was grooming her and she didn't stop having her upper lip up with her head up and neck straight, then her head down, chewing, yawning... She was looking happy and me too. I never saw her so happy and relaxed. Thank you so so much !!! 🐴💕🇫🇷

The "poll" is the area of the top of the horse's neck just behind the head.

Her eyes tell the story as you're working with her. Also do you change sides?

Do you do this on an angle? Should you repeat this facing from the right side of the horse and angle the neck that direction too, and dos that matter?

    • @Absorbine
      @Absorbine  3 года назад +2

No, more or less straight on and you do not need to switch sides. Thanks!

I tried this method so much times and I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME. It doesn't work, no matter what horse I try. First of all, they don't even blink, although it is a place where I know for sure it's stiffe, second of all, the horse is wiggling around most of the time and when I finally get to touch them, they react like nothing happened or don't let me do such moves like there, even though they should feel relaxed

We'd recommend asking the Masterson Method team how to get past this - they've seen everything and will have great ideas on how to help! mastersonmethod.com/contact/
